Federal Court Blocks Trump’s Refugee Ban After Challenge from ACLU

A federal court has stayed Donald Trump’s executive order barring citizens from 7 countries from entering the United States. The orders resulted in dozens of detentions at airports of nationals from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia.

The ACLU had filed a habeas corpus petition in federal court for the Eastern District of New York on behalf of Hameed Khalid Darweesh and Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi, two Iraqi citizens who were detained at JFK airport in New York City earlier today.

The judge’s order reportedly covers those in transit or already detained at airports, and does not apply to future arrivals.

I hope this little update will bring some sunshine to your rainy day here in La. We are reaching the 2 month mark since my neighbor Norma has come home from the hospital and I am so happy to share that she is continuing to prove the doctors and nurses wrong by continuing to THRIVE! To prolong the remaining funds to prevent her from having to be moved into a county facility, Norma and I have decided to move her into my apartment across the hall where she now has her own beautiful room and bathroom! She loves it! I do most of my work at home so I am here most of the time to care for her so it only made sense to the both of us. She is my adopted grandmother and I am her grandson she never had. 🙂 We will still have caregivers coming in to care for her as well as her weekly hospice visits from the nurses and doctors. I just wanted to let you all know Norma loves reading your comments and I seriously think all the support and love is keeping her healthy. Bunny (September 2003 – January 21, 2017) This morning we said goodbye to our beloved Bunny. She passed peacefully with all 5 of her people around her. She was diagnosed with inoperable cancer 3 weeks ago, but thanks to modern medicine, we were blessed with more time, and she was able to live happy and pain-free up until last night, when it had become clear that her little body and the Prednisone she was on, could not fight back the cancer any longer. She came into our lives at a special and pivotal time for our family. For me: I was 13 and the news of my sexuality had began to put a strain on our family, as we struggled to reconcile our faith and core values with my identity. Bunny was the warm, furry, tail-wagging glue that held us together. Our mutual love of her was the undeniable bond between us. BunBun, I am forever grateful to you for the 13 years of the unconditional love that poured out of you, for bringing our family closer together, and for the warmth and joy you brought into all our lives. I loved you even when you scratched on my door “early” in the “morning” until I let you in to jump on my bed and snuggle up to me. I wouldn’t trade any minute of any of the times we shared for anything in the world. Thank you, sweet girl.

Protesters Mobilize to JFK Terminal 4 Over Trump’s Refugee Ban: WATCH

A protest at NYC’s JFK Terminal 4 was growing on Saturday afternoon in response to Trump’s executive order blocking entry to the US by citizens of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia.

Citizens of those countries were being detained at airports around the country following the order, prompting a legal response from the ACLU.

Even those with green cards, which make them permanent U.S. citizens, are subject to the ban.

The First Lady’s cause: Herself! (No, seriously. It really is.)

Remember when Melania Trump said our culture has gotten “too mean and too rough” and therefore her platform as First Lady would be tackling the problem of cyber bullying among our youth?

“It is never OK when a 12-year-old girl or boy is mocked, bullied or attacked,” she told a crowd in Philadelphia back in November. “It is terrible when that happens on the playground and it is absolutely unacceptable when it’s done by someone with no name hiding on the Internet.”

Well, she’s making good on her promise. Sort of. Because according to Page Six, Mrs. Trump has begun putting together a team in order to address and manage the very serious issue of online attacks, but that’s a catch. She’s only focusing on attacks being made against herself and her family. America’s youth, it seems, will have to wait.

Melania is said to be particularly upset about a joke comedian Chelsea Handler made to Variety in a recent video interview when she claimed the First Lady “can barely speak English,” then followed up with the tweet, “Blink if you need help @MELANIATRUMP.”

The Trump family’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, issued a statement this week on Melania’s behalf, saying “Shame on Chelsea Handler for attacking our first lady in such a despicable manner!”

“Don’t be fooled by her accent,” Cohen added. “Melania is bright and articulate. To be clear, our first lady speaks multiple languages, I believe five. How many languages do you speak, Chelsea?”

Insiders say Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who helped coordinate Trump’s inauguration events, including that kickass performance by Three Doors Down, has been tapped as Melania’s chief strategist and is currently interviewing candidates for the First Lady’s chief of staff, communications chief, and social secretary.

Anyone else already missing Michelle Obama? Hell, we’d even settle for Laura Bush.
