New York’s Second Avenue subway station is about to get a lot more gay

That hunky couple making eyes at you from across the subway station are none other than Thor Stockman and Patrick Kellogg, and they’re not actually there–it’s a portrait, silly!

Thor and Patrick are among those captured in life-size images of New Yorkers in the new 72 Street Station, a long-fabled subway stop that for many years was thought to be a myth. The images were created by Vik Muniz, and include lots of other folks… but it’s a big deal to have the first permanent, non-political queer art in the city.

Or is it non-political? Didn’t some reality TV star once say “the personal is political”? Maybe by simply standing there, holding hands, defying stereotypes, and looking unflinchingly out into the world, they’re making one of the most profoundly political acts of their lives. It would be kind of awesome if their portrait becomes a tourist destination for queers from all over the world.

“Our friends were happy that this is gay representation on the walls of New York City, but our friends were even happier that this is gay representation that is not incredibly beautiful and skinny,” said one of the guys. And yes, that’s certainly true: as much as we like looking at men of all shapes and sizes, there are certainly enough sculpted physiques to be gawked at. (If this subway station had been built in LA, you can bet that the portraits would be a catalog of eating-disorder-triggers.)

What a pleasure to be greeted by these two lovely bears.

His straight friend “accidentally” sent him a nudie pic… Now what?!

His straight friend “accidentally” sent him a nudie pic… Now what?!

What do you do when you’re on the DL and your straight BFF “accidentally” sends you a picture of his junk? That’s what one guy wants to know.

“I met Joe over a year ago through a mutual Xbox friend,” the man writes in a now-deleted Reddit thread titled Friend (Accidentally?) Sent Me A Dick Pic. “Since then we grew close over gaming sessions (it happens!) and eventually exchanged phone #s, Facebook, IG, Snap etc.”

The man goes on to say that he and Joe talk about all sorts of things outside of just video games, and often get together to watch Netflix or play Xbox Live. You know, typical dude stuff.

One day, during a Skype session, the man says, “Joe flashed his ass, dick and balls to me. We laughed, all harmless fun and games.” Another time while the guys were watching Netflix together, Joe said he wanted to “share a hotel bed together, sex stuff, etc.”

“Basically, I just always take it as him joking,” the man writes. “I’ve seen him and I’ve seen his girl, so it’s hard to take him seriously when he says gay things.”

Still, it’s been hard for him not to develop feelings for his gaming up. Then something happened over the holiday weekend that has completely turned his world upside down.

“I sent out a Merry Christmas selfie to all of my friends,” the man explains. “Joe was one of the only ones to reply with a Merry Christmas selfie. Fast forward to that night. I’m off work. Playing some Xbox with my other bros and I get a Snapchat picture from Joe.”

When he opened the text, the man was shocked to see it was a dick pic from Joe.

“Between us gaybros, it was perfect,” he writes, though he’s not sure how to interpret it. “Joe is a good friend of mine and since this incident I’ve been torn between ‘He meant to send it. He was drunk. Or. He knows I like him’ and ‘It was a mistake, the pic was meant for girl. Don’t screenshot it’.”

He continues: “My current dilemma is speaking to him about this incident without ruining our friendship. Joe is someone that I am comfortable coming out to but I would hate to approach him the wrong way about this. As bad as I wanted to talk to someone else for advice, I didn’t bring this up to any of our friends. We’re all close and honestly there’s no way these guys don’t at the very least assume that I’m gay, so I’d hate to wrongly out someone else.”

The man says he’s barely slept a wink since all this happened.

“I’ve been struggling with this,” he says, “and I’ve never been in a situation that I didn’t know how to handle.”

Sounds like a precarious situation. What do you think? Was it just an accident, or is Joe trying to make a move? Sound off in the comments…

That time George Michael came out on national television: “I don’t feel any shame whatsoever.”

It was April 1998. After being arrested in Beverly Hills for “lewd conduct” for propositioning an undercover cop for sex, George Michael sat down with CNN for an interview to discuss the arrest as well as his sexuality, which, up until then, he had kept ambiguous.

When asked about that ambiguity, 34-year-old Michael replied, “It works very successfully in pop culture because it means, especially if you’re trying to communicate something emotional, or sexual, that you’re communicating with both men and women…My sexuality was not cut and dried.”

Later in the interview, Michel said that he didn’t have his first gay relationship until he was 27.

“I spent the first half of my career being accused of being gay when I hadn’t had anything like a gay relationship,” he explained. “So I spent my years growing up being told what my sexuality was … which was kind of confusing.”

He continued: “I want to say that I have no problem with people knowing that I’m in a relationship with a man right now. I have not been in a relationship with a woman for almost 10 years.”

And as for the arrest and everyone learning that, yeah, OK, he’s gay, Michael said: “I think having done something as stupid as that…I’m a very proud man. I want people to know that I have not been exposed as a gay man in any way that…I don’t feel any shame. I feel stupid and I feel reckless and weak for having allowed my sexuality to be exposed this way. But I don’t feel any shame whatsoever and neither do I think I should.”

Preach.

Fadi Fawaz

George Michael’s boyfriend Fadi Fawaz (pictured above with Michael on a 2012 vacation in The Maldives), spoke with the Telegraph about finding the singer’s body on Christmas Day:

“We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed. We don’t know what happened yet. Everything had been very complicated recently, but George was looking forward to Christmas, and so was I. Now everything is ruined. I want people to remember him the way he was – he was a beautiful person.”

He also tweeted:

ITs a xmas i will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first thing in the morning.. I will never stop missing you xx

It was reported yesterday that Michael was a major behind-the-scenes donor and gave millions to charities:

The man with the reputation for self-indulgence had actually given millions of dollars to charities involved with helping children, cancer victims and people with AIDS.

He was also remembered for small acts of kindness: helping his village in north London get a Christmas tree and volunteering at a homeless shelter.

…Among the groups he supported were the Terrence Higgins Trust, which helps people with AIDS, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Childline, which offers confidential phone counselling for young people.
