YouTuber outs boyfriend in series of wildly unhinged videos, now she’s being sued

This story has it all — jilted lovers, legal drama, modern celebrity and onscreen breakdowns.

And yet upon closer inspection, it also has absolutely nothing at all; perhaps less than nothing.

Without getting lost in an examination of modern internet celebrity, let’s just assume that heavily auto-tuned singer Trisha Paytas having 2.6 million YouTube followers makes any earthly sense whatsoever.

These are the days we’re living in.

It’s truly tempting to get hung up on that one contextual fact, but we simply must move on — there’s a lot of absurd ground to cover here. Besides her vocal stylings, Trisha deals in emotional outburst videos. We only just discovered that’s even a genre, but apparently the people love it.

They’re like the moments in life you try to forget about by remembering how much good surrounds you, except recorded and blasted out into the public sphere for consumption, ridicule and with any luck, some revenue.

The 28-year-old posted a breakup video on Saturday, after her Snapchat friend allegedly saw Trisha’s boyfriend, Sean van der Wilt (oh come on now) kissing someone at a club.

Is her video, “he cheated. i’m done,” a sly commentary on the fragility of trust and connection in the internet age, or is it merely a sobbing, bizarre mess?

Definitely that second option.

This was followed by the twist that this mystery homewrecker is actually a guy.

Which led to this natural question: “is sean van der wilt gay?”

See what we mean? There’s a lot, and also literally nothing, to process here.

Trisha, for her part, wasn’t processing very well. Shocking — we’d never expect someone who bleeds every thought and emotion out onto the internet to be ill-equipped to handle big change.

She posted her next video as something of a desperate plea to return to Sean’s good graces.

We’ll save you the experience of actually watching it and just give you this detailed analysis: Wow.

Having done all she could do (it must have been tempting to hold back on just one more video), Trisha waited for a response.

That response came in the form of a new legal matter:

“Sean is suing me,” Trisha tells us, now in a near-manic state.

And to close out the rollercoaster that is Trisha’s life, her next video — “I’m a chicken nugget” — is the best advertisement we’ve seen for therapy we’ve seen in a while:

In total, she’s posted another five videos about her mental state over the ordeal that have something of a cathartic arch to them:

These culminate in Trisha herself coming out as gay:

Either Trisha is an internet marketing genius, masterfully orchestrating a “breakdown” while watching the view-based revenue pour in, or–

On second thought, we’re just going to choose to believe that premise. The alternative is far too bleak.

Early this morning, from the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, nominees for the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced. Moonlight garnered 3 nominations, Netflix surpassed all other television networks with 17 noms, and Paramount led the motion picture studio pack with 6.

Continuing the streak of awards and nominations from major critics and industry associations, the intensely honest and beautiful film about a black inner city Miami youth’s struggle to find himself, his voice and his own sexuality as told through three stages in his life, Moonlight has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Additional noms went to Naomie Harris (Paula) and Mahershala Ali (Juan) for Outstanding Performance by a Female and Male Actor in a Supporting Role respectively.

Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for FX’ The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story was out actress Sarah Paulson as prosecuting attorney Marcia Clark.  Joining her in this category is Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award-winning performer, Audra McDonald who, as the openly bisexual jazz vocalist and song stylist Billie Holiday, delivered a tour de force performance in HBO’s Lady Day in Emerson’s Bar & Grill.

Tituss Burgess was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his hilarious and dynamic performance as Titus Andromedon on Netflix’ Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.  And continuing his streak of accolades for portraying Maura Pfefferman, a transgender woman who came out to her family in Season One of Transparent (Amazon), Jeffrey Tambor was also nominated in this category.  Earlier this year, when accepting his latest Emmy for this role, Tambor stated that:

“I would not be unhappy were I the last cisgender male to play a female transgender on television.”

With the exception of  HBO’s Veep, Netflix ruled the roost in nominations within the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series category.  Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin received their individual noms for Grace and Frankie (respectively).

Ellie Kemper was also nominated in the above category for the title role in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt; and Uzo Aduba for her larger-than-life portrayal of Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in Orange Is the New Black.

Orange is the New Black SAG AwardsThree fan favorites received nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.  Now into its 10th season, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, led by multiple award winning out actor Jim Parsons, has been nominated in this category for the last four consecutive years.  ABC’s Modern Family  is a 7 time nominee in this category, taking home 4 “Actors”.  It has also been nominated for 7 GLAAD Media Awards, winning twice.  Netflix’ Orange Is the New Black has won in this category for the last two years and continues to be a favorite for its groundbreaking, creative and moving storylines. OITNB is also a GLAAD award recipient.

In terms of totals: Moonlight garnered 3 nominations (Male and Female Actors in Supporting Roles, and for Motion Picture Cast); Paramount Pictures movies received 6 noms; and Netflix topped all networks with 17 nominations, followed by HBO with 13.

Lily TomlinIn celebration of decades of being at the top of her career – comedy, acting, writing, and producing – Lily Tomlin will be honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award “for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.  As the 53rd recipient of SAG-AFTRA’s highest tribute, her body of work reflects excellence at all levels of the entertainment industry.  In fact, Grace and Frankie was a GLAAD Media Award 2016 nominee.

Tomlin is well-known for her support of philanthropic organizations, particularly within the LGBTQ community, overcoming homelessness, civil rights and animal welfare.  She co-founded the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center.  On January 7, GLAAD shared that Lily and Jane, her partner of 42 years, married in a low key ceremony on New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles.  GLAAD congratulates Lily Tomlin for this well-deserved SAG recognition of a lifetime’s contribution of talent, mind and heart.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony will be Simulcast Live on Sunday, January 29, 2017 on TNT and TBS at 8 pm (ET) / 5 pm (PT)

Katya opens up about her addiction to meth

Katya opens up about her addiction to meth

maxresdefault5-670x377

Drug addiction can be one of the most challenging things to talk about publicly, but true to Katya’s fear-be-damned attitude, the RuPaul‘s Drag Race all star is helping to shed light on a vital topic.

Chatting it up on RuPaul’s podcast What’s the Tee? With Michele Visage, Katya didn’t hold back on the truth, from family life to drugs to how she really felt when she saw Alaska in the work room on day one of Drag Race All Stars season 2.

The drag fan favorite opened up about a difficult time in her life — a nervous breakdown while in her sophomore year at Massachusetts College of Art and Design — and how it led to falling down a drug-fueled rabbit hole to cope with the depression that accompanied it.

katya-2

“I’m thinking of suicide everyday because I can’t imagine at losing at life,” Katya recalls feeling. “I started stealing speed from my roommate. I wanted to do drugs to do more, to live, to cope, to be happy.”

That’s when meth entered the equation.

“I’ve been through hell on meth, but I’ve also been up in the clouds, and thats why you do it,” she told Ru and Michele.

Katya’s success, professionally and personally, is a testament to getting through tough times and coming out the other side.

screen-shot-2016-12-14-at-2-40-10-pm

Fans have clearly latched onto her ever-developing confidence, wanting to see her succeed in every way possible. It’s no surprise, then, that her one woman show’s Kickstarter more than doubled its fundraising goal, blasting past $33k for a total of $74,580 raised.

On a lighter note, Katya gave some behind-the-scenes commentary on her exceptional run during All Stars season two:

“When Alaska walked in there the first thing I thought was ’f*ck, I cant win,’” she said. “The second thing was: ’oh, thank God’ because I felt free, the pressure was off. I cant have to win but I need to be able to do this well. And I did that and I was proud of myself.”

Russia Blocks Mention of LGBT Rights in Tribute to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

Russia demanded that a statement praising outgoing U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon remove mention of Ban’s achievements in the area of LGBT rights.

Vitaly Ivanovich Churkin

Vitaly Ivanovich Churkin, Russia’s Ambassador to the UN

The statement was adopted by the U.N. Security Council, one of the U.N.’s most influential bodies and one in which Russia is has veto power.

The AP reports:

The original statement, obtained by The Associated Press, said it was thanks to Ban “that women, young people, and the LGBT community have been heard and assisted, and today their voices sound louder and stronger in (U.N.) headquarters and around the world.”

But the statement read at Wednesday’s council tribute to Ban made no reference to the LGBT community, instead saying it was thanks to the secretary-general “that the most vulnerable or marginalized have been increasingly heard and assisted by the United Nations.”

Ban Ki-moon has served as Secretary General for the past 10 years. Antonio Guterres will take over the office on January 1.

Russia’s opposition to the mention of Ban’s work on LGBT rights is not surprising given the country’s anti-gay propaganda law and its vehement opposition to LGBT equality.

Russia recently attempted, but failed, to block spouses of gay U.N. staffers from receiving marriage benefits.
