Chobani Debuts Stunning — And Sexy — Lesbian-Themed Commercial

Greek yogurt giant Chobani is celebrating LGBT Pride Month with a stunning — and sexy — new commercial.

Released June 15, the “Simply 100” commercial shows a lesbian couple sharing an intimate moment before breakfast in bed.

The new clip is part of Chobani’s “Love This Life” creative campaign, which aims to highlight “real, authentic moments in life — modern American stories.” The inclusive message of the ad, a Chobani spokeperson told The Huffington Post via email, is in line with the company’s longtime support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

“As part of our founding mission to make better food for more people, inclusiveness is at the heart of Chobani,” the spokesperson added. “We’re proud that our products are enjoyed by all and we celebrate that diversity whenever — and however — we can.”

It isn’t the first time that Chobani has spoken out in support of LGBT rights. Last year, officials released an image of stacked yogurt cups representing the colors of the rainbow with the tagline “Naturally Powering Everyone,” just days after the the company, which was a sponsor of the United States Olympic Committee and Team USA, publicly denounced Russia’s “gay propaganda” laws.

At the time, the Russian legislation, which imposes fines and even jail time on individuals who are deemed to be distributing “gay propaganda” to minors, had sparked an international backlash in advance of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The Most Common (And Ridiculous) Gay Myths Debunked

The good folks over at BuzzFeed have done the world a favor with a short film debunking misunderstandings about the gays just in time for Pride and, with any luck, marriage equality.

The video answers the most common (and ridiculous) questions some people maintain well after they have been debunked: Are gay people more promiscuous than straight people? Are lesbians repulsed by men? Do gay parents produce gay children? Can a person be gay and religious?

Not surprisingly, the weather was perfect for Sunday’s L.A. Pride parade. Wending through Santa Monica Boulevard, the festival had a healthy dose of laughing kids and rippling abs. Speaking of the latter, Warner Bros. took advantage of this perfect marketing opportunity by throwing three of its hunky Magic Mike XXL stars on a float: Matt Bomer, Channing Tatum, and Adam Rodriguez.

After Almost 50 Years, The Upper West Side’s Candle Bar Is Shuttering Its Doors

After Almost 50 Years, The Upper West Side’s Candle Bar Is Shuttering Its Doors

CandleBarIt’s the end of an era. On June 22, the Upper West Side’s Candle Bar will be serving its very last vodka cran. The roomy dive, located on Amsterdam Avenue near the corner of West 75th Street, is a popular destination for legions of locals, many of whom are older gay men who’ve been haunting the spot since it opened in the mid-1960s. The regulars are “family to each other,” says manager Amonte Demarko, 37. “It’s like a gay Cheers. Where will they go?”

Originally called Candelight Lounge, the space was owned and managed by Robert Ader until his death in 1985, at which point his sister Michelle grabbed the reins. Since Ader owned the four-story building attached to the bar, the business managed to stay afloat for years despite ever-increasing rents. Now, she’s sold that building (listed for $6.95 million), and the new owner has no interest in keeping the spot open.

In the meantime, Candle Bar will host some raucous closing parties June 19 through June 21. Last chance to play a boozy game of pool with Sheila E. blaring on the jukebox before the space becomes a TD Bank or Duane Reade or some such nonsense.

Australia's Opposition Party Pressured to Withdraw Gay Marriage Bill

Australia's Opposition Party Pressured to Withdraw Gay Marriage Bill

A bill introduced in the wake of Ireland’s historic same-sex marriage vote that would extend marriage equality to Australia is facing an uncertain future after members of the country’s ruling coalition party criticized the Labor proposal and pushed for it to be withdrawn.

RuddockAustralian Associated Press reports:

Veteran Liberal MP Phillip Ruddock criticised the opposition for introducing, without proper consultation, a private bill which aims to remove legal restrictions to marriage between a man and a woman.

Mr Ruddock, who supports marriage equality, was the only government MP to speak on the Labor bill when debate resumed on Monday.

“It’s extremely disappointing to me and my colleagues that Labor took the approach it did,” he told parliament.

“They should withdraw and allow some form of discussion to see if there’s a meaningful way forward.”

Australia’s prime minister Tony Abbott remains opposed to same-sex marriage
