Australia’s National Health Plan to Subsidize PrEP, Vastly Lowering Prices
Australia will subsidize Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) on its national health plan, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme on April 1, AJP reports:
The listing puts Australia in reach of being one of the first countries in the world to end the transmission of HIV, Health Minister Greg Hunt says.
“PrEP is a medical innovation that will save Australian lives and the decision to list it is one of the most significant advancements in HIV transmission Australia has ever seen,” Mr Hunt says.
…In its recommendation to list the treatment, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee stressed that PrEP should form part of a “comprehensive approach” to sexual health and complement other safe sex practices.
Access to PrEP to date has been “patchy” in Australia, says the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations, which applauded the decision.
Due to the significant cost, Australian PrEP users mostly accessed it through state and territory trials.
9News reports: “The PBS listing will drop the price to $39.50 a month for general patients and $6.40 for concession holders, which would otherwise have cost $2500 a year without the $180 million government subsidy.”

Students Out Math Teacher as Colt Model Aaron Cage

A group of students outed their math teacher’s adult film past as Colt model Aaron Cage and now he may be suspended.
The students at Peacehaven Community School (PCS) in East Sussex, UK, Googled their teacher while they were on lunch break and discovered that he had starred in Gruff Stuff, Manpower, Bound Up Tight, and other films.
One parent who spoke with the UK’s Sun tabloid said that he was “furious” and that “we have heard on the grapevine he has been suspended” though the school wouldn’t comment when asked.
The former Colt star was a personal trainer for 15 years before starting his career in education, getting a math degree from the University of Sussex in 2015, according to the paper. He joined PCS, which has 900 pupils aged 11 to 16, in 2016.
Presumably there are some folks who don’t care about the teacher’s other career, but the Sun did not speak with them.
