Cher Dazzles at Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney: WATCH
Cher, 71, lit up Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras with a medley of her hits (above) including “All or Nothing”, “Strong Enough”, “Believe”, and “If I Could Turn Back Time” after making a show-stopping appearance at the parade route earlier in the evening.
Cher, who was the headline act for the Mardi Gras after-party, had been rumoured to make an appearance during the parade and on Saturday night, the gay icon captivated the 300,000-strong crowd as she stepped out on to Taylor Square to the tune of Turn Back Time.
The singer, sporting bright orange hair and a low-cut black top with a silver-embroidered jacket, mingled with her many fans. She said she loved the feeling of the parade and even chimed in about Australia’s passing of same-sex marriage laws.
“It’s about time,” Cher told reporters.
The American singer praised the Mardi Gras and said she wished she had attended one earlier.
“I love that everybody is having such a good time and there’s no feeling of any kind of anger, there’s no negativity and that’s what I like most,” Cher said.

Gus Kenworthy’s Boyfriend Matt Tells Him ‘You Are Loved’ in Heart-Tugging Samsung Ad: WATCH
Gus Kenworthy’s boyfriend Matthew Wilkas appears in the second of three Samsung ads profiling the Olympic skier and his journey to PyeongChang for the Winter Games.
The clip features letters of support from family, fans, and friends that Kenworthy received.
In the clip, Wilkas reads aloud, telling Kenworthy, “I am so proud of you. I am so happy for you. Cause I know how hard you have worked to get here. You are loved by so many people, Gus.”
The spot also deals more directly with being a gay role model and athlete.
Says one friend in a letter: “As a gay man growing up, I think the minute we realize we’re gay – it’s a flaw – but people when they look at you, they think ‘I can do anything and be gay and that there’s nothing wrong with me.’”
Another letter from a gay fan, Wendle, expresses thanks for helping him come out.

This Sunday, the ceremony for the 90th Annual Academy Awards will be airing live from Los Angeles. The ceremony won’t be one to miss as there are a slew of LGBTQ-inclusive nominations, including films such as The Shape of Water, Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, and A Fantastic Woman. LGBTQ-nominated talent include Mudbound’s Dee Rees, Coco’s Adrian Molina, Strong Island’s Yance Ford, and more! Daniela Vega, the star of A Fantastic Woman will also be a presenter at the ceremony. CBS’s All Access’ spinoff of The Good Wife, The Good Fight will premiere its second season Sunday on the streaming service. Following the literal and metaphorical trials of a group of lawyers in Chicago, one of the main characters on the series in Maia Rindell, a young lesbian lawyer of the firm. Season two will continue to feature her as she deals with her parents’ scandal from the first season. The Good Fight: Sunday on CBS All Access.
The CW’s new dramedy, Life Sentence, premieres this Wednesday. The show follows Stella, a woman who recently found out that her fatal diagnosis of cancer is cured, and begins to face a whole new reality. One of the major changes in Stella’s life comes when she finds out that her mother has fallen in love with her best friend Poppy. The relationship between the two women will hopefully be a significant part of this new show. Life Sentence: Wednesday, 9pm on The CW.
Sundance’s acclaimed series Hap and Leonard returns for its third season on Wednesday. The mystery show follows the titular Hap and Leonard, the latter of which is a gay black veteran, in the South as they solve mysteries in their own unique way. The third season is based off of the novel The Two-Bear Mambo and it starts out with the duo tracking down missing person Florida Grange. Hap and Leonard: Wednesday, 10pm on Sundance.
The long awaited second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones comes to Netflix on Thursday. The superhero drama follows the titular Jessica Jones, a private detective with super strength who tries to uncover the truth about a mysterious organization. Also returning for the second season is lesbian lawyer Jeri Hogarth, who audiences will learn more about in the second season. Jessica Jones: Thursday on Netflix.
New NBC comedy Champions premieres this Thursday. Executive produced by Mindy Kaling, the show follows a gym owner who finds out he has a son when his former girlfriend essentially drops him off at his door. The son, Michael, played by JJ Totah, is an out gay 14-year-old auditioning to get into music school. Having a queer teenager lead a family show, where he is much more than his sexuality is a step in the right direction for network comedies. Champions: Thursday, 9:30pm on NBC.
