Laverne Cox Lays Down a ‘Beat for the Gods’ – WATCH
Laverne Cox released her first single “Beat for the Gods” this week and the video is a fierce homage to LGBTQ club culture, voguing, and drag.
The track was born out of a joke she had with her stylist about looking fabulous. She suggested that the phrase would be a good one for a club song. She was joking at the time, but here it is, and she was right.
Cox calls it a one-off pleasure project and says she isn’t trying to become a club artist. Though, maybe she should consider it.

Ellen Tortures Neil Patrick Harris at Target: WATCH
Ellen sent Neil Patrick Harris to Target to pick up some bubly, a new carbonated beverage that NPH is pushing which she later gave to her audience.
NPH was instructed to take directions from Ellen through his earpiece and roped in a customer who fed him the drink because he was in too much pain to hold it due to his fake injury.
This prank could have benefited with a little for freedom for Mr. Harris, who probably could have taken it to town with some impromptu humor, because all the vamping kind of gave away to the customer that something was going down.
NPH also appeared “magically” in Ellen’s studio.

HRC Mourns Phylicia Mitchell, a Transgender Woman Murdered in Ohio
HRC mourns the loss of Phylicia Mitchell, a Black transgender woman who was fatally shot in Cleveland on Friday.
Cleveland.com reports Mitchell, 45, was shot in the chest outside of her home at about 6 p.m. on February 23. According to police, investigators found her body on the living room floor. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Longtime partner Shane Mitchell told Cleveland.com that he met Mitchell some 30 years ago. Though they never married, Phylicia legally changed her name to take Mitchell’s last name and held a small celebration at a local church in May.
Despite challenges faced by both Phylicia and Shane, he said the two grew close and that, over time, his family and friends learned to love and accept Phylicia.
“Everyone loved her,” he said. “My nieces and nephews opened up to her so much. She was just so funny and kind.”
Police have not offered a motive and the investigation is still ongoing.
“I miss her tremendously,” Shane told the paper. “That’s my soulmate. We went together everywhere. We did everything together.”
Mitchell is the fifth known reported death of a transgender person this year.
HRC Foundation and the Trans People of Color Coalition released a report documenting the senseless acts of violence that made 2017 the deadliest year on record for transgender people, particularly for trans women of color.
