A Tale of Two Genders
70689_mediumMy name is Marshall Ragsdale . When I first took part in the NOH 8 Campaign , I was 20 years old and wanted to show my support for my LGBT friends and family – specifically, I wanted to show my love and acceptance towards my gay dad. 8 years later, however, I’ve taken part for a more personal reason: to represent the trans umbrella ! You see, my name is still Marshall Ragsdale

What’s Next After Valentine’s Day?

What’s Next After Valentine’s Day?

February 14th creates mixed emotions for people: some celebrate their love for their partner, while others celebrate being single with friends, some enjoy the day alone with wine and ice cream and there are some don’t celebrate at all.

But what happens after Valentine’s Day?  Where do we go from Cupid’s celebration?

Here are some suggestions to put a spring in your step:

1) Pamper yourself.

It’s super important to have “me time.” It can be anything that gets you feeling spoiled.  Take a break to curl up and read that book that you keep eyeing but never get a chance pick up.  Put the headphones on to listen to the tunes that you have recently downloaded.

Have a spa day. If you don’t have time for an entire day, maybe a facial or just a pedicure. Also a hot rock massage helps melt away any stress that you might be holding in from the winter blues. It’s all about taking care of yourself.

2) Take a class or volunteer.

Spring is the perfect time to start something new.  If there is a class on your bucket list, move it over to your accomplish list. It doesn’t have to be a full semester course, there are one night classes or classes for 6 weeks.  There are all kinds of classes out there: from cooking to photography; music to languages.  Have a look at the local colleges and any online programs in your area.

Volunteering is all about your passion. It also flexible to work around your schedule.  The opportunities are everywhere: from dog walking at the local shelter, to reading to seniors to helping out at events. Whatever your interests are, there is a volunteer job that matches.

Both of these activities promotes self-confidence and is also a great way to meet people with similar passions.

3) Spend time with friends and family.

Nothing bond friends and family like a potluck or an afternoon out at the bowling lanes. Dust off pictionary, charades or the family favorites to spark healthy competition.  It’s relaxing and fun to be around people that have been with you through thick and thin. Enjoy the time to just release stress and be yourself.

4) Enjoy the great outdoors.

There is something about Mother Nature that is refreshing and invigorating. For those who may not be hiking enthusiasts, there is lots to do outside.  In the winter, there is snow shoeing and skiing, also there are some local attractions that are opened all year round.  You could also play tourist for an afternoon and explore your town on foot.   The goal is to disconnect from the everyday routine to help reset and energize.

5) Spring cleaning.

Nothing helps moving on better than letting go.  Take on that one closet that you look away from every time you walk by it. Donate the clothes that you have not worn in a year to a non-profit group.  Recycle old electronics that are sitting around collecting dust. There is a sense of accomplishment and closure when you clear things out of your home that you no longer need.

Valentine’s Day may be over for another year, some enjoyed the love and passion of it while others maybe not so much. Spring is just around the corner and it’s the perfect time to release, energize and let go.

On the day of the shooting, allegedly by a former student, González spent her lunch period selling “professions of love” — Valentine’s Day cards designed like marriage certificates.

HAVE AGAIN TURNED THEIR BACKS ON THEIR LGBTQ NEIGHBORS: The city’s Board of Aldermen have denied a permit for a LGBTQ Pride parade. “Twice now Starkville has shown it is not supportive of its LGBTQ residents, and the LGBTQ community will not forget,” said HRC Mississippi State Director Rob Hill. “It’s disappointing that the Starkville Board of Aldermen would deny LGBTQ people in Starkville the chance to celebrate Pride in their own city.” More from the Starkville Daily News and The Hill.

Trump and Pence to share the stage with anti-LGBTQ activists at CPAC

Trump and Pence to share the stage with anti-LGBTQ activists at CPAC

Betsy DeVos, Rick Perry, KellyAnne Conway, and Mick Mulvaney among the other Trump Administration officials scheduled to speak

NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, released the following research to shine a light on past anti-LGBTQ statements from speakers at the 2018 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and call on media to put the conference into proper context by reporting on the anti-LGBTQ records of the activists and public officials speaking at the event.

“President Trump never misses an opportunity to court anti-LGBTQ organizations and activists who target the LGBTQ community,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “The Trump White House is leading a multi-front culture war against the LGBTQ community by continuously addressing large gatherings of anti-LGBTQ activists, fighting for the discriminatory transgender military ban, and pushing religious exemptions to legalize discrimination against LGBTQ people.”

President Trump and Vice President Pence, along with other White House officials, will share the stage with Rep. Barry Loudermilk who compared the Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision to the Dred Scott opinion upholding slavery, and Laura Ingraham who likens medical necessary transgender healthcare to “child abuse,” and many other anti-LGBTQ activists.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Anti-LGBTQ Records and Statements from CPAC 2018 Speakers

President Donald J. Trump:
Staffed his administration with anti-trans advocates, holds close ties to anti-LGBTQ hate groups, and recently created a new religious and conscience exemptions division in the HHS to defend health workers who refused to treat LGBTQ patients.

Vice President Mike Pence:
Has been credited as the “driving force” of the transgender military ban and has supported the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy.

Secretary Betsy DeVos:
Rolled back Title IX protections for transgender students and stopped investigating civil rights complaints from transgender students barred from school bathrooms that match their gender identity. The DeVos family has also funded anti-LGBTQ organizations ranging from Focus on the Family, which openly advocates for so-called “conversion therapy,” to Bethany Christian Services, an adoption agency that excludes LGBTQ parents and advocates for laws that allow them to do so.

Secretary Rick Perry:
Wrote an op-ed directly attacking Texas A&M University for allowing a student to serve as the university’s first openly LGBTQ student body president and has compared being LGBTQ to alcoholism (multiple times)

Secretary Ryan Zinke:
Opposes adoption by same-sex couples and revoked the National Park Services sponsorship of New York City’s first permanent Pride Flag, located outside of the historic Stonewall Inn.

KellyAnne Conway:
Along with President Trump, Kellyanne Conway spoke at the Family Reseach Council‘s Values Voter Summit, a convening of fringe groups united around discrimination against LGBTQ people she also suggested that referring to someone’s LGBTQ identity is comparable to referring them as a slut.

Deneen Borelli:
Insists the Obama administration “seemed to side with the gay lobby over black moral values” in supporting marriage values.

Sean Hannity:
Was fired from a local radio show for peddling extreme and derogatory myths about LGBTQ people including that LGBTQ people are “prone to disease” and that homosexuality is like “playing in a sewer.”

Mick Mulvaney:
Cosponsor of the so-called First Amendment Defense Act, designed to allow anti-LGBTQ people to discriminate for religious without any recourse and oversaw the Trump Administration’s first budget proposal that included slashes to programs and departments critical to the LGBTQ community, including Medicaid, Planned Parenthood, and the Center for Disease Control’s HIV and AIDS programs.

I guarantee you that will be taken advantage of by some very bad men who want to go into a bathroom where there’s young ladies.”

Kay Coles James:
Former Senior Vice President of the exceedingly anti-LGBTQ Family Research Council, former dean of Pat Robertson’s Regent University, and current head of the anti-LGBTQ Heritage Foundation; reportedly compared LGBTQ people to addicts, alcoholics, adult users, and “sinful” people.

Tom Borelli:
Promoted the American Family Association’s boycott of Target over transgender accommodations, insisting “that the retail giant was henceforth throwing open its restroom doors to the gender-confused”

Marion Le Pen:

In bathrooms in North Carolina and school districts all over the country. You know, the University of North Carolina used to think its biggest enemy was Duke. Now it’s Loretta Lynch. Think about that. Rising ISIS attacks, terrorism in Europe, innocent children being slain in our cities by murderers the White House refuses to take off the streets before they kill, ever-growing serious threats to our nation and the president’s biggest concern is school bathrooms?”

Gov. Matt Bevin:
Openly supports a company’s right to turn away LGBTQ customers and signed into law a religious exemptions bill that allows student groups at high schools and public colleges to openly discriminate again LGBTQ classmates, citing religious beliefs.

One of the most anti-LGBTQ congressmen of our recent times; Said marriage equality is meant to destroy marriage and that the world is “twisted” because transgender is in but trans fats are out.

Niger Innis:
Penned a column insisting that “gay marriage harms kids and democracy.”

(Transvestites participated in the Stonewall riots, although that event launched the gay-rights movement, not an appeal for transgenderism.) Also, did I miss the vote when gay men were asked whether or not we wanted to embrace, as our own, men who amputate their penises and fold them into vaginas? Were any lesbians polled to ask them to accept in sisterhood women who reject their “lady parts,” fashion artificial phalluses, and then rechristen themselves as men?”

Frank Gaffney:
Known more for his extreme anti-Muslim views but also has also targeted transgender service members: “The most egregious example of such social engineering is a requirement to integrate “transgender” individuals and pay for their sex change operations and other, vast healthcare requirements,” (and was a strong opponent of open LGB+ service before that).
