Anderson Cooper Rips FOX News’ John Moody for Racist, Homophobic Take on Team USA
“It’s pretty tough for anyone to say something that cuts through all [the] nasty noise” of the Trump administration with something worse, said Anderson Cooper on Monday night.
But FOX News VP was the subject of Anderson’s well-deserved ‘Ridiculist’ wrath for a column he wrote which appeared on FOX News’ website and has since been removed.
Wrote Moody in the column, to refresh your memory:
Unless it’s changed overnight, the motto of the Olympics, since 1894, has been “Faster, Higher, Stronger.” It appears the U.S. Olympic Committee would like to change that to “Darker, Gayer, Different.” If your goal is to win medals, that won’t work.
A USOC official was quoted this week expressing pride (what else?) about taking the most diverse U.S. squad ever to the Winter Olympics. That was followed by a, frankly, embarrassing laundry list of how many African-Americans, Asians and openly gay athletes are on this year’s U.S. team. No sport that we are aware of awards points – or medals – for skin color or sexual orientation.
For the current USOC, a dream team should look more like the general population. So, while uncomfortable, the question probably needs to be asked: were our Olympians selected because they’re the best at what they do, or because they’re the best publicity for our current obsession with having one each from Column A, B and C?
“Why is he clutching his pearls in fear and outrage over Team USA?”, asked Cooper. “Well it turns out that of over 244 athletes on the team, two of them had the courage to say openly and proudly that they’re gay. And as for the darker part of Mr. Moody’s Olympic fever dream? 10.”
Added Cooper: “First of all, darker, gayer, different is a terrible motto for the Olympics. It’s not a bad motto for a gay bar, I’ll give you that, but I’ll just assume those aren’t Mr. Moody’s favorite watering holes. Apparently Mr. Moody likes his Winter Olympics like he likes his orthodontia – straight, white, and all the same.”
Anderson went on: “Does this guy seriously have so little to do that he’s sitting around worrying that people who have no athletic ability get put on an Olympic team just because they’re gay or African American? And does it strike anyone else as hugely inappropriate that a guy who’s apparently high up at a news organization is upset about another organization striving for diversity?”
And finally, Anderson wondered what the hell he’s doing at a “news” organization: “Moody’s comments might be funny if he was just a crank standing out on the street corner on Sixth Avenue outside Fox & Friends trying to get his sign on camera with a sign saying ‘darker, gayer, different’…but he is actually inside the building in a top position…I don’t know exactly what he does. It doesn’t sound like he does much – but as a gay man, if I was working under him, I sure would not feel all that welcome.”

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Hear Stories Of Former Homeless People At Edinburgh’s Social Bite Cafe
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have heard from former homeless people about how a social enterprise cafe in Edinburgh has helped them turn their lives around.
The royal couple visited the sandwich shop Social Bite, which helps homeless people across Scotland, during their first official joint visit to the country.

While one quarter of the cafe chain’s staff is made up of people who were once homeless, the enterprise also hands out 100,000 food and drink items to homeless people each year.
Harry asked the founders of Social Bite when they would be bringing the coffee shops “down south”.
George Clooney stopped by in 2015, leaving a $1,000 donation, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn bought meals for two homeless people when he visited the Glasgow branch a month earlier.
Harry and Meghan called in at the coffee shop during their first official joint appearance in Scotland, which began with a visit to Edinburgh Castle.
The duo spent several minutes speaking to people in the large crowds which had gathered on the city’s streets to mark the royal visit, despite the bitter weather.

스피드스케이팅 김민석이 ‘깜짝’ 동메달을 따냈다
생애 처음으로 올림픽에 출전한 김민석(19)이 동메달을 획득했다.
동계올림픽 빙속 남자 1500m 경기에서 아시아 국가 선수가 메달을 딴 건 김민석이 처음이다. 한국 최초인 것은 물론, 아시아 최초인 셈이다.
김민석은 13일 강릉 스피드스케이팅 경기장에서 열린 평창동계올림픽 스피드스케이팅 남자 1500m에서 1분44초93으로 동메달을 획득했다.
이 기록은 지난해 12월 세웠던 자신의 최고 기록인 1분43초49에 1.44초 모자랐지만 이날 3위에 오르는 데 충분했다.
15조의 김민석은 큰 박수를 받으면서 하랄즈 실로우스(라트비아)와 함께 스타트 라인에 섰다. 김민석은 초반 300m를 23초94에 통과했다.
이후 속도를 점점 높인 김민석은 마지막 한 바퀴를 남겨두고 1분16초45를 기록했다. 하지만 막판에는 속도를 올리지 못하고 1분44초93으로 경기를 마쳤다. 당시 김민석은 29명 가운데 3위였다.
이후 6명이 더 경기에 나섰지만 김민석의 기록을 넘지 못했고 김민석이 동메달을 목에 걸었다.
금메달은 1분44초01를 기록한 네덜란드의 키엘트 누이스가 차지했다. 이로써 네덜란드는 스피드스케이팅에 걸린 4개의 금메달을 싹쓸이하는데 성공했다. 준우승 역시 네덜란드의 패트릭 로아스트(1분44초86)가 차지했다.
함께 출전한 주형준(27)은 1분46초65를 기록, 17위를 마크했다.

働きやすい職場にいても、私の「カラダと人生」まで誰も面倒みてくれない
働き方、生き方、家族のあり方などが多様化していく社会でいま、女性たちが活躍している。性別にとらわれず、自分らしくいられる社会に一歩ずつ近づいているのかもしれない。
一方で、女性は、年齢とともにライフステージが変わり、カラダの悩みも変化していく。たとえば、毎月やってくる生理にも、心とカラダのふとした変化が現れる。自分のカラダのリズムを知ることが、毎日を過ごしやすく、より自分らしくいられるヒントになる。
今回ハフポストでは、一般女性3名にドコモ・ヘルスケアが提供するアプリ「カラダのキモチ」を使って、毎日の基礎体温と生理日を記録してもらった。産科婦人科・舘出張佐藤病院（群馬県高崎市）の産婦人科医の佐藤雄一先生に、記録したデータをもとにカラダのこと、生理の悩みを相談してみた。
ユミコさん（仮名）は22歳の大学4年生。就職活動の末、4月に広告代理店への入社が決まった。卒業論文も一段落し、掛け持ちのバイトを忙しくこなす毎日だ。「就職したらもっと忙しくなるんだから今のうちに遊んでおいたほうがいいよって先輩たちにいわれるけど、仕事している時間が好きなんですよね」と笑顔で話す。
そんな彼女は生理に悩みがあった。排卵痛とPMS（月経前症候群）のため内科にかかり、1年前からピルの服用を始めた。そのため生理周期は安定している。「ピルの服用中は、基礎体温が上下しにくいので安定していますね。ホルモンのリズムがわかるから日記帳をつける感覚で記録を続けていくといいですよ」と佐藤先生。
少し安堵の様子を見せたユミコさんだが、ずっと気がかりだったことがある。ユミコさんは内科でピルを処方されたため、婦人科は受診していない。また、ピルを服用しているにもかかわらず、痛みを感じるときがある。佐藤先生は「生理痛がひどい場合、子宮内膜症の可能性があります。一度クリニックで検査したほうがいいです」と指摘。ピルの種類を見直し、カラダに合ったタイプに替えてみることも奨められた。
「婦人科には、まだ行ったことがない。緊張します」とユミコさん。婦人科を訪ねるのは、22歳のユミコさんにとって少し勇気がいるようだ。「気になるなら、早いうちに受診したほうがいいですね。保健室に行く感覚で、もっと気軽にクリニックに足を運んでほしいです」と佐藤先生。
ユミコさんは、結婚・妊娠についてはどこか冷静にとらえている。20代後半や30代でバリバリ仕事をするために、あえて20歳で結婚・出産する道を選んだ先輩の姿を見てきた。同世代の友人からは、専業主婦を望む声も聞く。「今の社会において、総合職で働くのは必ずしもいいわけではない」と感じている。22歳という若さであれば、これからの人生の選択肢も広く、それゆえ悩むこともあるのだ。
「このまま就職したら、きっと仕事が楽しくなっちゃうんだろうな。でも将来子どもが産みたいし、ちゃんとカラダのことを知っておかなきゃと思う。もちろん結婚についても。今回、先生と話して、バリバリ働きたいなら余計にカラダには気をつけようって思いました。入社式の前までに産婦人科で検査してきます」と決意をかためた。

マリさん（仮名）は、ニュース記者として働く28歳。3年前から生理痛の症状があらわれた。ピルを服用してみたものの、2週間ほど不正出血が続いたため即断念。それでも「子どもができやすい家系」という謎の安心感があったため、自分のカラダには無頓着に過ごしてきたと振り返る。
休日でも、取材が入れば迷わず現場に向かう。そんなバリバリ仕事をこなすマリさんの楽しみは、お酒とNetflixだ。お酒とつまみを用意して海外ドラマを見るのが毎日の楽しみ。ついつい夜更かしをしてしまう。
そんな話を聞きながら、マリさんがアプリに記録したデータを見た佐藤先生は「ガタがきている」とひと言。まずは、生理周期が35日と長めである点を指摘した。「以前は28日だったのに長くなった」というマリさん。実は、心の片隅で気になっていた。
女性の周期には低温期と高温期があるが、マリさんの場合、低温期の体温が35度台と、低め。佐藤先生は、低体温の体質は冷え性や生理不順などになりやすいと指摘。「生活習慣を見直してすぐにカラダのケアをしてください」
「もともとはなかった生理痛が出る、出血が増えるというのは婦人科系の病気を疑ったほうがいいかもしれません。健康診断の婦人科検診では問題なくても、子宮筋腫や内膜症は超音波検査をしなければわかりません。子宮頸がん検診だけではわからない病気も多いので要注意です」（佐藤先生）
マリさんは「結婚よりも出産に興味がある。子どもは絶対に欲しい」と思っている。具体的なプランもある。30代前半に出産し、産後3年間は仕事をセーブして、子どもの側にいてしっかり育てたい。でも、ふと気づいたら28歳になっていた。
「今の生活を続けると、30代からは妊娠しづらくなる恐れもでてきます。もう少し自分のカラダに関心を持ちましょう。30代前半で子どもがほしいなら、そろそろ準備を始めてください。まずは、生活習慣の見直しから」これが、佐藤先生からマリさんへの心のこもったアドバイスだ。
マリさんは、『カラダのキモチ』アプリを使った今回の企画が、自分の人生を考える良いきっかけになったと話す。「女性も働きやすい職場にいるけれど、会社は”子どもを産むならそろそろですよ”とか教えてくれない。誰も私の”カラダと人生”の面倒はみてくれない。だから自分で意識しなくちゃいけないって改めて感じました」

サツキさん（仮名）は、32歳の会社員。化粧品や、ヘルスケア商品のECサービスを運用する会社に勤めている。この春、結婚を控えており妊活にも興味を持ち始めた。生理痛やPMS（月経前症候群）に悩みがあり、5年前からピルを服用してきたが、妊娠・出産を視野に入れてこの1カ月間はピルの服用を控えている。
サツキさんはアプリで記録していくなかで、以前より生理周期が長くなっていることに気が付いた。生理は28〜35日周期が正常範囲とされている。佐藤先生によると、ピルの服用をやめて1〜2カ月は周期が乱れやすいとし「このあと2〜3カ月間、同じような周期が続くようなら、かかりつけの婦人科に相談したほうがいい」とアドバイスした。
サツキさんは生理痛、PMS（月経前症候群）の症状緩和を目的にピルを飲み始めたが、服用をやめたあとは再び同様の症状に悩まされた。ピルを飲まずに、妊活をしながら症状をやわらげる方法はないものか？
佐藤先生は、まずは生活習慣や食生活を見直すことを奨めた。「PMSは病気じゃないけれど、原因として、ホルモンバランスや自律神経の乱れが挙げられます。糖分を摂り過ぎないこと、カフェイン、タバコ、お酒を控えること。それから、女性には隠れ貧血の人が多いです。亜鉛や鉄分、たんぱく質をしっかり摂りましょう」
サツキさんのパートナーは7歳上の39歳。そのため、子どもは早めに産みたいという思いがあるそうだ。「子どもはひとりでいいから産みたい。彼にいつ頃って話はとくにしていないけど、早い方がいいと思っています」
『カラダのキモチ』アプリで毎日の体温と生理周期を記録すると、排卵日（妊娠しやすい時期）の目処がわかりやすいため、妊活に役立てられる。「アプリを使えば、パートナーと排卵日の情報共有ができていいですね」とサツキさん。
仕事柄、ヘルスケア関連の情報には敏感だ。生理痛・妊活などの情報が得られるからと宋美玄先生（産婦人科医）のTwitterをフォローしている。ネットでの情報収集もかかせない。
サツキさんは転職をして、残業時間が大幅に減ったという。「男性の上司が『子どもを授かるのは思っていたより簡単じゃなかった』という話をしてくれたことがあり、妊活に関しては理解がある職場だと思います」
ただ、サツキさんの職場には正社員の女性が少なく、これまでに産休をとった女性もいない。子育てをしながら働く女性のロールモデルがいないことが少しだけ気がかりだという。
労働時間や上司の理解、ロールモデルとなる先輩の存在。妊活を始めるにあたり、こうした”働く環境”は、大事な要素となりそうだ。

『カラダのキモチ』アプリで日々の体調を管理しておけば、なんとなく感じてきた日々の不調にも、女性ホルモンのリズムが影響していることがわかる。自分のカラダと会話しながら、仕事やプライベートの予定を調整できるため、毎日がより過ごしやすくなる。
日常の中では負担に感じられる生理だが、そもそも排卵と月経は生殖機能のためのもの。将来の妊娠・出産にかかわる重要な機能だ。年齢とともにライフステージが変わる女性にとって、自分のカラダを知ることは、働き方やこれからのライフプランを見つめ直すきっかけになるはず。
そして、自分のカラダを労わることが、幸せな人生には不可欠だ。

The nominees for the 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced during the Sundance Film Festival by actors Wilson Cruz (“13 Reasons Why,” “Star Trek: Discovery”) and Trace Lysette (“Transparent”). Nominees across entertainment and news media included This Is Us, Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, Battle of the Sexes, A Fantastic Woman, Billions, The Voice, Will & Grace, Andi Mack, Halsey, Kesha, Kehlani, Teen Vogue, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, NBC Nightly News, HuffPost, and CNN en Español. GLAAD announced a Special Recognition Award for Jay-Z’s song and music video “Smile” featuring his mother Gloria Carter who used the song to come out as a lesbian as well as a Special Recognition Award to the animated short film In A Heartbeat. The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to accelerate acceptance of the LGBTQ community. The 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Delta Air Lines, Ketel One Vodka, and Wells Fargo.
