‘Glee’ Star Mark Salling Dead of Apparent Suicide

Glee star Mark Salling has died of an apparent suicide at the age of 35, according to TMZ.
We’re told his body was found at the Los Angeles River in Sunland … the area where he lived. We do not yet know the manner of death.
The former “Glee” star was awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography involving a pre-pubescent minor. Prosecutors say he had 50,000 images of underage children.
Salling was expected to face 4 to 7 years in prison as part of a plea deal, pay $50,000 to each victim seeking restitution, and “register as a sex offender and participate in counseling or psychiatric treatment,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Salling played Puck on the Ryan Murphy hit about the William McKinley High School glee club called the New Directions, from 2009 to 2015

Ein Vorfall in Mönchengladbach sorgt für Diskussionen. Ein Bundespolizist, der an Abschiebe-Flügen beteiligt gewesen sein soll, sei von zwei Männern bedroht worden, berichtete die “Bild”-Zeitung am Montag.
Die beiden Tatverdächtigen seien “ihrem äußeren Erscheinungsbild nach dem islamistischen Spektrum zuzuordnen”.
Die Dienststelle des Polizisten hat die Attacke nun gegenüber “Focus Online” bestätigt. Die Polizei-Gewerkschaft verlangt Konsequenzen.
Polizei-Gewerkschaft hat drei Forderungen
► “Wir fordern eine sofortige Auskunftssperre für alle Personenbegleiter“, sagte der Vorsitzende der Deutschen Polizei Gewerkschaft, Ernst Walter, zu “Focus Online”. “Damit wird sichergestellt, dass niemand mehr personenbezogene Daten über die Kollegen bekommt, etwa über das Kennzeichen oder über das Einwohnermeldeamt.”
► Die Bundespolizeigewerkschaft will deshalb auch den Polizisten erlauben, ihre Dienstwaffen zum Eigenschutz mit nach Hause nehmen zu können.
“Wer sich bedroht fühlt, muss seine Waffe mitnehmen können. Damit Polizisten dies tun können, muss der Dienstherr künftig die Waffenschränke bezahlen. Bisher mussten das die Kollegen selbst tun”, betonte Ernst Walter.
Gewerkschaftschef war schockiert
Der Gewerkschaftschef fürchtet, dass die Suche nach Personal für die Bundespolizei noch schwieriger werden wird.
► Er forderte daher gegenüber “Focus Online”: “Wir müssen diesen Job attraktiver machen. Wir brauchen eine Zulage für diese Leute, bis jetzt gibt es weder eine Erschwernis- noch eine Gefahrenzulage.”
Von dem Vorfall in Mönchengladbach sei er schockiert gewesen. “Das ist die erste Bedrohung eines Personenbegleiters, von der ich gehört habe”, betonte Walter. “Wir kennen Bedrohungen bisher nur aus anderen Bereichen, etwa der Fußball-Fan-Szene.”

His death was initially reported by US website TMZ on Tuesday evening (30 January).

HRC Mississippi Urges Sen. Briggs Hopson to Bring SB 2576 Up for Vote in Judiciary A Committee
Today, HRC called for Mississippi state Sen. Briggs Hopson to bring up SB 2576 for a vote in the Senate’s Judiciary A committee. The measure would add sexual orientation, gender identity and disability to the existing statewide hate crimes law. Sen. Hopson’s reluctance to bring up this bill, which would provide hate crimes protections for members of the LGBTQ community and people with disabilities, is especially striking after the same committee brought up a bill that adds enhanced penalties for people who participate in dog fighting. As Sen. Hopson stands in the way of this bill, a bipartisan majority of the committee has already committed to voting for this crucial update to Mississippi’s hate crimes law, which would simply bring it up to the federal standard.
“All Mississippians deserve equal justice under the law, and SB 2576 is a much-needed remedy to the shortcomings of our current state hate crimes law,” said Rob Hill, HRC Mississippi state director. “Without enumerating sexual orientation, gender identity and disability, the LGBTQ community and people with disabilities will continue to be under-protected when they are targeted simply because of who they are. After this committee advanced a bill aimed at harsher penalties for dog fighting, we have to ask: does Sen. Hopson care more about the rights of animals than those of his fellow Mississippians? We implore Sen. Hopson and Judiciary A to bring this bill to a vote in committee — it’s the right thing to do.”
Mississippi, like most states in the South, does not have statewide hate crimes laws that are inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. This makes it more difficult for law enforcement to adequately prosecute perpetrators of bias-motivated crimes and deliver justice to victims and their families. Recently, Mississippi has faced a tragic, disproportionate number of anti-transgender crimes, including the highly-publicized murders of Mercedes Williamson, Mesha Caldwell and Dee Whigham. Out of those three murders, only Mercedes Williamson’s was prosecuted under existing hate crimes laws, because the the perpetrator crossed state lines, making it a federal crime. Caldwell and Whigham were not able to receive full justice under the law because of the lack of protections for gender identity.

Publix Grocery chain is denying its employees coverage for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), the medication used to prevent HIV transmission. and some suspect it may be on moral grounds.
The company’s rejection of what is widely considered a major breakthrough in HIV prevention is as unique as it is puzzling, said David Holland, M.D., M.H.S., an assistant professor of medicine at Emory University and director of the Fulton County PrEP clinic in Atlanta, who unsuccessfully tried to get Publix to cover PrEP for one of the company’s employees. “We’ve started over 400 people on PrEP at our clinic alone, and this is the only person that we weren’t able to get PrEP for,” Holland said…
…The employee Holland assisted appealed the initial denial, was rejected twice more, and “was the only one we were not able to resolve through an appeal,” Holland said. “What we found out from the insurance company was that it came, ultimately, from the employer,” he added. “It wasn’t just an insurance issue; it was [that] the employer did not want it covered in the insurance.”
Publix officials did not respond to written questions about the company’s rationale for omitting coverage of PrEP for its employees, but Holland and public health advocates believe it was unlikely due to costs. Blogger Josh Robbins first reported in November 2016 that Publix was denying its employees access to PrEP, and the reasoning behind it is still unclear.
The company’s board is largely conservative and Publix scored a zero on HRC’s analysis of workplace fairness. Some are concerned that “religious freedom” to deny healthcare is at the root of it, with the Hobby Lobby case standing as justification.
Three of the seven states that Publix operates in — North Carolina, Georgia, and its home state of Florida — are ranked in the top-10 states with the highest number of HIV diagnoses in 2016, according to the CDC. The Miami metropolitan area ranked first in the county in the prevalence of HIV diagnoses, with almost 39 out of every 100,000 residents acquiring the disease in 2016, while the Atlanta area, where Fulton County health officials received pushback from Publix on PrEP coverage, ranked fourth, with 1,701 new infections in 2016, or more than 29 cases per 100,000 residents, according to CDC surveillance data.
“They’re not a mom-and-pop grocery store,” Barrington Ward said. “For them to not know that they operate in a region that carries the bulk of the epidemic at this point, that most of the new cases in the United States occur where their grocery stores are, and for them not to provide that protection for their staff is irresponsible, at the very least. Publix’s general reputation as a stellar company to work for makes their opposition to protecting their employees via PrEP even more confounding, Arromand said. “I was really shocked to learn about this because I know I have tons of friends who work for Publix and, believe it or not, I hear really great things about Publix as a corporation,” Arromand said. “The fact that they are employee-driven, the fact that there are plenty of opportunities for their employees to advance as the company grows, and certainly not least, [at a company whose motto is] ‘Where Shopping is a Pleasure,’ working at Publix should also be a pleasure for its employees,” added Arromand, who commended the work being done to increase access to PrEP in the Atlanta area, where more than 30,000 people are living with HIV.

Doch damit hört seine Zukunftsvision nicht auf. Denn laut der britischen Zeitung “The Sun” ist Santos der Meinung, dass es nur noch eine Frage der Zeit ist, bis Ehen zwischen Robotern und Menschen normal werden.
Der nächste Schritt nach der Ehe wären bei vielen Menschen Kinder. Und auch das möchte Santos bald verwirklichen. Er arbeitet schon lange an seinem Sex-Roboter Samantha – bisher hat sie rund acht verschiedene Programme, wie zum Beispiel Entertainment, Schlaf oder diverse sexy Modi – und sie kann realistische Orgasmus-Geräusche von sich geben.

Das Kind käme durch einen 3D-Drucker auf die Welt
“Ich kann Roboter Kinder haben lassen. Das ist nicht so schwer. Ich würde liebend gerne ein Baby mit einem Roboter haben”, sagt Santos gegenüber der “Sun”.
Der Plan sei, das “Gehirn”, das er ihr gegeben hat, aufzustocken. Er wolle es so programmieren, dass sie moralische Werte und die Konzepte von Schönheit und Gerechtigkeit versteht, so wie die Werte, die Menschen im Allgemeinen haben.
“Ich würde einen Algorithmus mit meinen eigenen Ansichten kreieren und den dann mit ihren Gedanken verbinden – das Ergebnis wird dann mit einem 3D-Drucker erstellt”, erklärt er seinen theoretischen Vorgang der britischen Zeitung.
“Das ist alles. Ich drucke unser gemeinsames Roboter-Kind mit einem 3D-Drucker. Ich sehe darin keine Schwierigkeiten.”
Roboter werden unsere Kinder und Enkel heiraten
Bald wären diese Puppen auch nichts mehr, was im Schrank oder unter dem Bett versteckt werden müsse, meint der Wissenschaftler. Eine Hochzeit zwischen Mensch und Maschine sei gar nicht mehr so weit entfernt.
Bald würden Roboter unsere Jobs übernehmen und unsere Kinder und Enkel heiraten.
Santos zieht einen einfachen Vergleich: “Man muss sich nur zurückerinnern, dass Handys früher auch als unnötig angesehen wurden. In der heutigen Gesellschaft können wir kaum ohne sie leben.”

Santos war ein angesehener Experte der Nanotechnologie
Santos Frau sieht die Beziehung mit dem Roboter Samatha offenbar gelassen.
Maritsa Kissamitaki und Santos sind schon seit 16 Jahren verheiratet und laut der “Sun” hilft sie ihm sogar, in seinem Labor weitere Prototypen von Sex-Robotern zu entwickeln.
Der Wissenschafter selbst studierte Elektrotechnik, Nanotechnologie, Künstliche Intelligenz (KI), Werkstoffwissenschaften und Angewandte Materialforschung.
Bevor er anfing, Sex-Roboter zu produzieren, war er ein angesehener Experte der Nanotechnologie – er hielt unter anderem an der Yale University in den USA Vorträge.
Die Menschheit wird aussterben
Santos ist klar, dass sein Plan, ein Kind mit einer Künstlichen Intelligenz zu “zeugen” viele Menschen sprachlos macht. Aber eine Gefahr sähe er zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt (noch) nicht, sagt er gegenüber “The Sun”.
Aber er gehe davon aus, dass die Menschen in einer weit entfernten Zukunft sowieso nicht mehr existieren – die “Hybriden”, oder einfach auch nur Roboter, würden dann die Erde bevölkern.
Vor 60 Millionen Jahren sei die Erde schließlich auch noch vor Dinosauriern bevölkert gewesen – und wie die Urzeit-Echsen wird der Mensch, wenn es nach Santos geht, aussterben. Und den Robotern Platz machen.

Finsbury Park Attack Suspect Darren Osborne Denies Driving Van
A man accused of carrying out the Finsbury Park terror attack has denied driving the van which mowed down Muslims in north London.
Darren Osborne, of Glyn Rhosyn in Cardiff, is alleged to have deliberately mowed down people outside two mosques in north London shortly after 12.15am on June 19 last year, leaving one dead and several injured.
Witnesses saw the white vehicle accelerating as it approached the group, leaving them “splattered all over the place” and killing Makram Ali, the jury at Woolwich Crown Court has previously been told.
But taking to the witness box on Tuesday afternoon, Osborne denied he was the driver of the van involved.
Defence barrister Lisa Wilding QC said to Osborne: “Were you the driver of the van?”
Osborne replied: “No.”
Ms Wilding said: “Did you know who was the driver of the van?”
The defendant said: “A guy called Dave.”
Ms Wilding said: “Do you know Dave’s other name?”
Osborne said: “No I do not.”
The defendant said he knew Dave and had met him in a pub in Treforest, called the Pick and Shovel, in early April or March last year.
Osborne told the court that he had also met a man called Terry Jones, and that the three of them would discuss their social and political views.
He said the trio had originally planned to go to Rochdale, Greater Manchester, adding: “That was our intended target.”
Asked if this plan had been put into effect, he said: “Unfortunately not.”
Earlier Jonathan Rees QC, concluding the prosecution case, said the final evidence would deal with the issue of who was driving at the time of the attack and whether the alleged perpetrator acted with others.
Detective Constable Paul Dring, of the Metropolitan Police, said he was told by Osborne during an urgent safety interview conducted at University College Hospital that no-one else was involved, the court heard.
According to a statement read by Mr Rees, he asked: “In terms of what happened today, is there anyone else involved?
“To which Mr Osborne replied ‘No’.”
The court heard that at the end of the interview, Mr Dring asked: “Finally from me, is there anything at all that you know about that could harm anyone?”
“Mr Osborne says ‘No’.”
After a pause Osborne added “I’m flying solo”, Mr Rees told the jury.
The court was also shown footage from the body camera of Pc David Jones, who is said to have handcuffed Mr Osborne while he was on the ground after the incident.
A man the prosecution say is Osborne can be heard saying in the back of the police vehicle “I lost control of the van” and “lost control, man”.
Mr Jones said: “Were you driving, yeah?”
The man is heard to reply: “Yeah.”
Asked if he had been drinking, the man said he had consumed a “couple of pints”.
Osborne denies the murder of Mr Ali, 51, and attempted murder of “persons at the junction of Seven Sisters Road and Whadcoat Street, London”.
