Jimmy Kimmel, who has had guest hosts filling in while his baby son Billy underwent heart surgery, returned to his set on Monday night with his son Billy in his arms.

Kimmel chocked back tears when introducing Billy, who has galvanized him politically to denounce Trump on health care and push viewers to help defeat the GOP plan to repeal Obamacare.

“Daddy cries on TV but Billy doesn’t,” said Kimmel.

Kimmel also warned that Congress has failed to approve funding for CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program), that helps families afford healthcare for their kids. Kimmel asked viewers to call both the House and Senate at (202) 225-3121 and let representatives know that they want CHIP fully funded.

He also urged people to enroll in Obamacare before the deadline on December 15.

Zwei Soldaten zerren an ihm.

This image of 16-year-old Palestinian child Fawzi al-Junaidi, detained, blindfolded, & surrounded by 20 plus Israeli soldiers, is – unsurprisingly – all over social media. It was taken in Hebron on 7 December, during anti-occupation protests following Trump’s announcement. pic.twitter.com/ClslzMQtsA

NASA Animation Flies Down Into Jupiter’s Great Red Spot

NASA Animation Flies Down Into Jupiter’s Great Red Spot
NASA’s scientists have finally got a rare glimpse under the surface of one of the most powerful phenomenon in our solar system.

Jupiter’s Great Red Spot is without doubt one of the great wonders of space and yet we still know very little about it.

Twice the width of Earth, this gargantuan cyclone is over 10,000km wide and has been raging for over 350 years.

In the past we’ve only been able to appreciate this vast phenomenon from the surface,

However using data collected from the Juno spacecraft, the team were able to create a crude 3D animation that shows what it would look like if we could feasibly dive down into the abyss.

While it certainly looks cool, the animation highlights a new and pretty amazing fact which is that not only is the Great Red Spot fantastically wide but that its roots extend 50 to 100 times deeper than our own oceans on Earth.

With wind speeds of up to 400mph, the Great Red Spot is sadly something humans will really only be able to appreciate from a distance rather than going in head-on.

As if to hammer that point home the team also discovered something else pretty terrifying which is that Jupiter has an invisible band of radiation that’s travelling close to the planet’s surface at almost light speed.

Also detected: A new radiation zone, just above the gas giant’s atmosphere, near the equator. #AGU17 Full story: t.co/6EJWLL17e0 pic.twitter.com/oaIqe47Eua — NASA’s Juno Mission (@NASAJuno) December 11, 2017
“The closer you get to Jupiter, the weirder it gets,” said Heidi Becker, Juno’s radiation monitoring investigation lead at JPL.

“We knew the radiation would probably surprise us, but we didn’t think we’d find a new radiation zone that close to the planet. We only found it because Juno’s unique orbit around Jupiter allows it to get really close to the cloud tops during science collection flybys, and we literally flew through it.”

Of course in terms of visiting Jupiter this is a moot point, you see Jupiter has a magnetic field surrounding it that’s 20,000 times stronger than Earth’s.

Extending some billion kilometres out from the planet’s core this invisible forcefield would be deadly to humans and is already so powerful that it’s doing considerable damage to NASA’s Juno spacecraft.

Mother of Keaton Jones: I’ve Spent My Life ‘Being Bullied and Judged Because I Wasn’t Racist’ – WATCH

Tennessee teen Keaton Jones and his mother Kimberly sat down for an interview with CBS This Morning to respond to the attention generated by a viral video Kimberly posted to Facebook of Keaton reacting to being bullied. The video received 10s of millions of views, prompting hashtags of solidarity with Keaton and offers from celebrities.

Shortly after the video was posted the narrative changed dramatically when alleged screenshots from Kimberly’s Facebook page surfaced online in which she posed with the Confederate flag, and criticized NFL players for kneeling.

Kimberly Jones said she is not a racist and said the photo of her posing with the Confederate flag was meant to be “ironic” and “funny,” adding that the photos brought to the public’s attention were “the only two photos on my entire planet that I am anywhere near a Confederate flag.”

She said there was no racist intent: “No, absolutely not. I’ve spent most of my life being bullied and judged because I wasn’t racist.”

Keaton was interviewed as well. He said that the video “made [him] feel like he had accomplished something…something that could actually change the world.”

Oktober 2017 in Kraft.

Why Writing A Letter To Santa Will Bring Your Child More Than Just Gifts

Why Writing A Letter To Santa Will Bring Your Child More Than Just Gifts
Parents should encourage kids to put pen to paper and actually write letters to Santa, rather than speeding up the process by sending an email.

The Children’s Literacy Charity said physically writing a letter to Father Christmas is “what this time of year is all about”, despite ‘Email Santa’ sites being created.

It gives children the opportunity to practise writing as a skill, seeing as much of their time may be spent on computers, phones and iPads.

“Children are writing fewer letters to Santa as email is taking over for time-pressed parents,” said Matthew Hickey, CEO of the charity.

“We know a lot of stuff is happening online and digitally, and of course being digitally literate is important, but we believe writing is paramount to a child’s development and will always be important.

“If you can’t handwrite, how can you answer an exam question properly, or fill out an application form?”

Hickey continued: “It is about developing children who are multifaceted, who can do everything to prepare them for the future. Not just being able to be prepared for the digital age, but actually being prepared to put pen to paper and use those multiple skills.

“As a charity, we are keen to encourage and inspire parents and children to sit down together this Christmas and put pen to paper, upholding the centuries old tradition of letter-writing to Santa.

“We know that when parents are engaged with their children’s learning and development, it can make a huge difference to the outcomes for those children.”

To get your kids writing, you could start off by downloading a free ‘letter to Santa’ printable template here.

If you want your child to receive a response from Santa (without writing it yourself), it’s too late to send to the Royal Mail address. However, parents can donate a small amount to NSPCC to use their “letter to Santa” scheme.

Parents can pay £5 to get a reply from Santa. They can choose from eight Christmas stories and personalise the reply to include their child’s name, age, best friend, gender and a personalised message. The age categories (1-3, 4-5, 6+, ‘baby’s first’ and ‘grown-up’ letter) ensure the letter is easier to read for younger kids, and longer for more advanced readers.

All the letters are posted out in early December. To make sure your child receives their letter in time, you’re advised to order online before 16 December.

HRC to Honor Transgender Trailblazer and Advocate Gavin Grimm at Time to THRIVE Conference

HRC to Honor Transgender Trailblazer and Advocate Gavin Grimm at Time to THRIVE Conference

Today the HRC Foundation announced that it will honor transgender advocate Gavin Grimm with an Upstander Award at the organization’s annual Time to THRIVE Conference on February 16-18 at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek in Orlando. The conference is co-presented by the National Education Association and the American Counseling Association.

“Gavin has set a powerful example for LGBTQ advocates across the country, serving as a leader for transgender youth and taking his fight for equality all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States,” said Vincent Pompei, chair of Time to THRIVE and director of the HRC Foundation’s Youth Well-Being Project. “As we join together with hundreds of youth-serving professionals at Time to THRIVE, we are privileged to welcome and honor Gavin with our Upstander Award.”

Past recipients of the award, which recognizes those who have advocated tirelessly on behalf of LGBTQ youth, include Katie Couric, Jazz Jennings, Ruby Corado, Michael Sam, Lance Bass and John Quiñones.

Grimm made history after suing his school district over its discriminatory policy that barred him from using the boy’s restroom, alleging that the district violated Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. His case was scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court of the United States, but was sent back to a lower court after the Trump-Pence administration withdrew the Obama Administration’s policy guidance clarifying schools’ obligations to transgender students. Grimm has since graduated from high school, but he continues to be an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ equality.

Grimm will receive Upstander Awards at HRC’s Time to THRIVE, the premier event addressing the safety, inclusion and well-being of LGBTQ and questioning youth. The event brings together a wide range of youth-serving professionals to discuss best practices for working with and caring for LGBTQ youth and their families in schools, community centers, health care settings and beyond. Toyota and BBVA Bank are presenting sponsors of the event. To register, visit www.TimeToThrive.org.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee has died last night shortly after 1 am at San Francisco General Hospital. He was 65. No cause of death has been given.

CBS San Francisco reports:

In a short news release, officials said Lee passed away on Tuesday, December 12 at 1:11 a.m. at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Family, friends and colleagues were at his side.

“It is with profound sadness and terrible grief that we confirm that Mayor Edwin M. Lee passed away,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anita, his two daughters, Brianna and Tania, and his family.”

Lee was appointed as mayor by the Board of Supervisors on January 11, 2011 after Newsom resigned to become Lieutenant Governor. He won election on Nov. 8, 2011 and was re-elected in 2015.

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown told KPIX 5 that Lee was “the symbolism of the mayorship.”

Following Lee’s death, Board of Supervisors President London Breed became Acting Mayor of San Francisco, effectively immediately.
