The 2017 Lake Erie Gala was held at the Clarion Hotel, 2800 W 8th St, Erie PA. The annual event, sponsored by the Lake Erie Group and Erie Sisters and Brothers (ES&B), began Wed. November 15th with the opening of registration, a pool and pizza party at the hotel, and optional bowling at Eastway Lanes.

The event had a nautical theme, and Thursday’s bus tour to the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse and Museum included a narrated video presentation on the journey of great lakes iron ore shipping, given by ES&B president, Melanie Shubitowski. Melanie’s late father was a captain for US Steel, and she had grown up spending as much as half of her summers aboard US Steel ore boats, and shared some of the knowledge she acquired. The Fairport Harbor Museum held a great deal of artifacts from the shipping industry, including the light from the lighthouse, a wealth of pictures, the lighthouse, and the pilot house from the Cleveland Cliffs ore boat, the Frontenac. Following the tour, the group had a fabulous (and large) lunch at the Old Firehouse Winery in Geneva on-the-Lake, Ohio before returning to the hotel. After dinner, we were treated to entertainment by Dueling Pianos, a favorite of Gala attendees, followed by dancing and music.

Friday’s bus tour began at Yahn Planetarium at Penn State Behrand, where we were given a presentation of how Lewis and Clark used celestial navigation to plot their trek to the Pacific Coast and back. Lunch on the tour was at Freeport Restaurant, then on to Brix 21, a charming winery with a signature pink elephant out front to greet guests, or perhaps warn them of the hazards of too much indulgence. After arrival at the hotel, the dinner was a Hawaiian Luau, with a juggler providing the night’s entertainment.

Saturday began with free time for shopping, a special lunch for spouses and SO’s, and the evening saw our traditional “Glitter Ball”, and we had a group of Canadian shoppers that were in town joining us that evening. Vendors were also in attendance at the event. Sunday morning was a breakfast and tearful good byes to dear friends as the Lake Erie Gala concluded. All in all, it was a wonderful time, and another successful Gala.

Alexandra Burke Admits She’s Now Too ‘Self-Conscious’ To Show Real Emotions On ‘Strictly’ After ‘Fake’ Accusations

Alexandra Burke Admits She’s Now Too ‘Self-Conscious’ To Show Real Emotions On ‘Strictly’ After ‘Fake’ Accusations
Alexandra Burke has admitted that the negativity she has been on the receiving end of during her time on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ has led to her bottling up her emotions.

The singer says she’s now too self-conscious to show how she’s really feeling after she was repeatedly accused of being “fake” by some viewers on social media.

In her weekly ‘Strictly’ column in Radio Times, she admits that while she’s loved her time on the BBC dance show, some of the abuse levelled against her has taken its toll.

She says: “I’ve had my fair share of negative press since winning The X Factor nine years ago, but I’ve never experienced anything like this.

“Twitter seems to have given people permission to be incredibly hurtful. They don’t seem to realise that I have feelings and get upset.

“The saddest thing is that I started the show completely myself – my joy and my tears were 100 percent genuine, however much people said they were fake – but I’m now so self-conscious, I try not to react at all in case people say, ‘Oh, look, here are the fake tears again’.

“I feel I’ve got to lock my emotions away, where before I used to wear my heart on my sleeve.”

Despite the negativity online and in certain sections of the press, the 29-year-old goes on to reveal that the show has also been her “lifeline” after her mother died just before this year’s series kicked off.

“Losing her just before the show started has made the whole experience bittersweet, but it has also been my lifeline,” Alex explains. “Having something so positive for me, and my family, to focus on at such a sad time has been incredible.”

The former ‘X Factor’ winner also praised her dance partner, Gorka Marquez, who she says has become a “friend for life”, despite reports in certain tabloids that they don’t get on.

“I’m so grateful to him for putting up with everything I’ve been going through, emotionally and psychologically,” she says.

“Our relationship has been more intense than other partnerships and I’m sure he’s felt that strain, but he is always there for me and has never, ever made me feel bad.”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine bisexual

Gay and lesbian TV characters are becoming more mainstream, but TV has had a harder time catching up on the “B” in “LGBT” representation. In a 1997 episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Willow Rosenberg started dating a woman after a serious relationship with her ex-boyfriend. No one said the word “bisexual”—it was just assumed Willow…

HIV/AIDS인권활동가네트워크: HIV/AIDS 의 재현과 공공미술

5 Times David Davis Highlighted In-Depth Brexit Reports That He Now Says Don’t Exist

5 Times David Davis Highlighted In-Depth Brexit Reports That He Now Says Don’t Exist
David Davis has revealed the government has not assessed the impact of Brexit on different key sectors of the British economy – despite repeated suggestions by the Brexit Secretary lots of work was being done.

It was an incredible moment of political theatre at the Brexit select committee hearing …

“I haven’t looked at the impact of Brexit at all” *David Davis then proceeds to actually fucking giggle* pic.twitter.com/0ILFgMCapR
Tory and DUP MPs have spared Davis’ blushes by blocking claims he did not honour instructions to hand over the work the Government had carried out on the impact of Brexit – but he still faces claims he misled Parliament.

Here are five times Davis highlighted similar-sounding studies:

HRC Endorses Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin for Re-election

HRC Endorses Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin for Re-election

Today, HRC announced its endorsement of Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin in her bid for re-election.

“We were proud to stand with Senator Baldwin when she made history in 2012, and today we are thrilled to enthusiastically endorse her bid for a second term in the U.S. Senate,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “A true trailblazer, Senator Baldwin has been at the center of every battle for full equality, fighting tirelessly on behalf of Wisconsin and the American people. Her leadership and voice remain crucial in the effort to advance equality and we look forward to continuing to work with her in the U.S. Senate.”

“I am honored to have HRC’s endorsement and proud to be their long standing partner in this fight,” said Senator Baldwin. “Every Wisconsinite and every American, no matter who they are, should be able to have a fair chance to earn a living, provide for their families, and live free from fear of discrimination. I will continue fighting for these ideals every day as a U.S. Senator and work to ensure full federal equality for everyone.”

Baldwin is the first openly gay U.S. senator and the first woman elected to the chamber from Wisconsin. Throughout her public service, she has been a pioneer for equality: Senator Baldwin was a leader in the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” an early supporter of marriage equality, a champion for federal hate crimes protections, and co-author of the Equality Act, crucial legislation that would extend comprehensive federal protections to LGBTQ Americans. In addition to Baldwin’s strong civil rights record, she has been a voice for middle class Wisconsinites, leading the fight for quality, affordable health care access and an economy that works for everyone. She has defended the Affordable Care Act and is a leader of Buy American reforms to fuel job growth in the United States.

In July, HRC announced the earliest, largest grassroots expansion in its 37-year history ahead of 2018 with the launch of HRC Rising — a campaign to accelerate progress in states from coast-to-coast, resist the politics of hate, fight anti-LGBTQ legislation, and fuel pro-equality candidates and initiatives. HRC has thus far announced six priority states, which include Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, HRC has identified more than 560,000 Wisconsinites as likely “Equality Voters” — those who are strong supporters of policies that advance LGBTQ equality, including marriage equality and other measures prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. HRC engaged Catalist, a data and analytics firm, to create a voter equality model that predicts every registered voters’ likelihood to support LGBTQ equality.  This model has allowed HRC to identify and direct outreach to millions of  “Equality Voters” in crucial battleground states, moving them to action in support of pro-equality issues and legislation, as well as our endorsed candidates.

Paid for by Human Rights Campaign PAC and authorized by Tammy Baldwin for Senate
