Congratulations are in order for Paris Hilton, who got engaged to actor and model Chris Zylka when he proposed during a romantic weekend away in Aspen.

The platinum split shank halo band features a 20 carat centre stone and two carats of smaller diamonds. It was designed by jeweller Michael Greene and reportedly cost a cool $2 million. The price is not surprising when you look at the size of that rock, though.

Hilton wasn’t shy about sharing her joy with her fans on social media and her engagement ring garnered much attention.

“Unbelievably beautiful,” one simply commented. 

The heiress and entrepreneur also posted a photo of the proposal on Instagram, sharing her happy moment with her fans.

‘I’m Not Rude, I Have Social Anxiety.’

Most of us would have tried to speak to somebody at some point in our lives, only to be dismissed or responded with a blunt, almost rude reply. This may have left you wondering what you have done wrong. Wondering what you could have possibly said to offend the person. Maybe you have done nothing, maybe the person was just rude; or maybe this person has social anxiety.

A lot of people with social anxiety find it difficult to communicate with people resulting in cutting conversation short, finding it hard to get out their words and having difficulty making eye contact. In turn, this can make them seem uninterested in what you have to say. However this isn’t always the case. The issue is not that the person does not want to interact socially, it is simply that they find it difficult to.

It is not rare that people with social anxiety say that their friends thought they did not initially like them due to the way they came across. Appearing distant and unattached is not uncommon for people with anxiety when they are feeling anxious; especially during first-time meetings. People with anxiety can also feel incredibly insecure with themselves, which doesn’t help with first impressions. They are constantly thinking they are being judged by just about everybody. Many people with anxiety also find it difficult to open up about details of their personal lives. A common sign of anxiety is fear of intimacy or difficulty trusting others, which is especially the case for people they have just met.

‘Sometimes I don’t join in the conversation because, even though I can hear voices having the conversation, I have no idea of the content. My brain is too busy trying to process all the conversations in the room, my surroundings, the people there and trying to work out whether it’s a safe environment and what these people think about me.’

Usually, upon meeting somebody for the first time, having a laugh together is a great way to ease the tension. However, for those with anxiety, a joke that has just been told may be the last thing on their mind! It may have gotten lost through all the other thoughts such as ‘they probably hate me already’,‘I don’t know if I can get my words out’, ‘They probably think I’m obnoxious for not laughing straight away’. Similarly, during group events somebody with social anxiety may seem to be keeping to themselves, sitting alone on their phone or trying to distract themselves in some other way by fiddling with an object or pretending to seem interested in their surroundings. This is to stop people approaching them and starting conversation. If somebody is severely anxious, they may just get up and leave. This is not because they do not enjoy the company, it is not them having better things to do or better places to be; it is because they needed a break from their own brain and anxious thoughts.

‘People think I’m being rude when I have my phone in my hands constantly or when I look down at my hands and fiddle with my rings instead of looking at them when they’re talking. I’m not trying to be rude, I just can’t cope in a lot of social situations, and it’s either do little things like I do or have a panic attack, which would be worse.’

Since anxiety is actually fairly common and we probably all know of somebody who has some degree of anxiety. It is important not to mistake somebody’s anxiety for rudeness as this will only make them more anxious. If you have a friend, family member or colleague who always cancels on plans, be thoughtful and understanding because it might be due to anxiety/depression. Obviously, this is not an excuse for every cancelled plan or rude comment; some people are just plain rude. But others may be too emotionally exhausted to put their clothes on and attend the event they promised they would show up at months ago. Don’t assume that because somebody is quiet they are upset with you either. When anxiety hits, it can make the smallest of conversation seem impossible! Be kind to people and always give them the benefit of doubt.

Brexiteers Boris Johnson And Michael Gove Are ‘Clueless’ About Economics, Says Ex-Treasury Minister Lord O’Neill

Brexiteers such as Boris Johnson and Michael Gove are “clueless” about the world economy, a former Tory Treasury minister has declared.

Lord O’Neill of Gatley said that Johnson was a “ludicrous” figure and that he and Liam Fox were “crazy” to focus on trade deals with Commonwealth countries like New Zealand rather than China.

The 60-year-old former Goldman Sachs economist, who served under George Osborne until last year, tore into the Cabinet ministers as it emerged that the UK was considering joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade bloc 4,500 miles away, once it has left the EU.

O’Neill, who coined the term ‘BRICS’ to describe emerging economies in China and India, used an interview with German newspaper Die Welt to attack the Brexiteers in Government such as Johnson and Gove.

“[They are] very intellectual, smart people. But they have no clue about the world economy. They are clueless, sadly. Clueless,” the former minister said.

Johnson and Gove led the Vote Leave campaign that successfully secured Brexit in the EU referendum in 2016.

But O’Neill singled out Johnson and Fox for trying to improve trade with Commonwealth countries such as Australia and New Zealand.

“It’s kind of fantasy. This year, China is going to grow by 6.7 per cent. In nominal GDP-dollar terms, China will create a new Australia this year. It will create 4 New Zealands this year. And Liam Fox and our ludicrous foreign minister spend half of their life going to New Zealand. It’s crazy, crazy.”

O’Neill, who joined the Tory government in 2015 having been an adviser to Gordon Brown under Labour, also attacked Theresa May, saying she “doesn’t get out and about and think about China”.

“Within a week of the [EU] referendum the Chinese approached us about a free trade agreement,” he said.

“Under Cameron and Osborne they would have had that discussion 15 months ago.”

May was forced to delay a trip the country last year after it clashed with Donald Trump’s first visit in November.

Fox is currently on a visit to China, where he will meet government officials and business leaders.

His allies point out that he has flown round the world eight times since his appointment 18 months ago and has visited Australia and New Zealand once each.

A spokesman for the Department for International Trade said: “The International Trade Secretary is visiting China, our fifth largest trade partner, this week as we look beyond the boundaries of Europe to build independent trading relationships with the rest of the world.”

Lord O’Neill’s outspoken remarks came as it emerged that the UK is in tentative talks about joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade bloc with 11 countries such as Mexico, Japan and Canada. Trump has withdrawn from the free trade deal, claiming it was a ‘rape of our country’.

Greg Hands, the minister for trade policy, confirmed the government was open to joining the bloc. “Nothing is excluded in all of this,” he told the Financial Times. “With these kind of plurilateral relationships, there doesn’t have to be any geographical restriction.”

Sir Lockwood Smith, New Zealand’s former high commissioner and a former trade minister, told a conference in London last year: “It’s very easy to do a quick and nasty trade agreement. “There will be plenty of people knocking on the UK’s door. They are easy to do but you will regret them for years afterwards.”

Meanwhile, the FT claimed on Tuesday that Brexit Secretary David Davis had felt sidelined by Theresa May in the final stages of crunch talks with Brussels last month.

The paper said that “those who know Mr Davis well” claim that before Christmas he was contemplating the possibility that somebody else might conclude the Brexit negotiations in 2018.

Friends said he was frustrated at how Olly Robbins, May’s civil service “sherpa” on Brexit talks, had assumed a more central role since he moved into the heart of the Number 10 operation.
