New York Comic Con: GLAAD’s guide to LGBTQ inclusive panel’s and screenings!
New York Comic Con kicks off today and runs through Sunday, October 8, bringing creators and fans of comic books, films and television together for four days of jam packed programming. This year’s panels, screenings, and meet-ups include several events focused on LGBTQ content, and furthering diversity of all fields in comics, movies, and television. There are panels focused on inclusion of people of color, women, people with disabilities, and other marginalized voices.
This year, GLAAD is proud to partner with BOOM!Studios on the panel “The Future is LGBTQ,” which includes prominent voices in pop culture discussing LGBTQ representation and our future in media. GLAAD’s own Megan Townsend, Director of Entertainment Research and Analysis, is a featured speaker on this panel, making it one not to miss. Surviving as Womyn and Non-Binary People of Colour With Mental Illness in Cosplay
Being a person of color in the cosplay community has its challenges for many, especially already marginalized groups dealing with mental illness. We discuss the stigma of mental illness as people of colour within the cosplay community and how we combat the struggles.
