Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore Wants Ruth Bader Ginsburg Impeached
Roy Moore, the chief justice of Alabama’s Supreme Court, said he thinks U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan should be impeached because they’ve officiated same-sex marriages.

In an interview with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, Moore suggested Congress should do something about Ginsburg and Kagan.

“We have justices on the Supreme Court right now who have actually performed same-sex marriages, Ginsburg and Kagan,” Moore said, according to audio posted by Right Wing Watch.

Moore pointed out that Ginsburg just officiated a same-sex marriage earlier this month, and during the ceremony, placed an added emphasis on the word “Constitution.”

“Congress should do something about this,” Moore added, arguing Ginsburg is “violating federal rules” set for justices.

Texas Senate To Debate Anti-Gay Marriage Proposal After Bigoted Adoption Measure Stalls

Texas Senate To Debate Anti-Gay Marriage Proposal After Bigoted Adoption Measure Stalls

A Texas Republican lawmaker says he dropped an anti-LGBT adoption measure Tuesday because he wanted the House to have time to consider an anti-abortion proposal before a midnight deadline.

As we told you Tuesday, GOP Rep. Scott Sanford had introduced an amendment that would give state-funded, faith-based child welfare providers a license to discriminate against LGBT people. But Sanford ultimately withdrew the amendment. The Dallas Morning News reports:

SanfordRep. Scott Sanford, R-McKinney (right), has said the measure is needed but he pulled down his amendment to allow the House more time to get to a bill prohibiting insurance coverage of abortions in policies sold in the federally run Texas health insurance marketplace.

“The pro-life bills are really important to us,” he said. “In order to get to them, we need to pull down our amendment.”

Incidentally, the House didn’t get to the anti-abortion bill, either.

After Sanford dropped his amendment, GOP Sen. Donna Campbell tried to revive it in that chamber, but her effort also failed. From The Texas Tribune:

CampbellState Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels (right), sought to add the amendment to a House bill sponsored by Sen. Craig Estes, R-Wichita Falls, that would direct the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services to study “kinship care” programs.

But Campbell quickly pulled the proposal down after state Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, sought to kill the provision on a technicality. The Senate unanimously passed the bill, HB 2655, once the amendments were withdrawn.

Meanwhile, the Senate is set to consider an anti-gay marriage amendment Wednesday. As we reported Tuesday, the amendment is an effort to revive Rep. Cecil Bell’s House Bill 4105, which aimed to undermine a potential Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality. The amendment was added to another bill by a socially conservative Democrat, Sen. Eddie Lucio (below right), in the dark of night. However, even if it passes the Senate, the amendment doesn’t appear to have much chance of making it back through the House before the session ends Monday. The House author of the bill is Democratic Rep. Garnet Coleman, a staunch LGBT ally.

If the bill passes in the GOP-dominated Senate, which Coleman expects it to, it would need to return to the House, where the lower chamber’s members would have to concur with the changes. Coleman said if he can’t strip the anti-gay marriage off his legislation, then he would withdraw it completely.

“If I can’t get it off, then the bill goes to bill heaven,” Coleman said. “I don’t support that legislation or that language.” …

Lucio, a strong Catholic and social conservative, said Bell asked him to attach the language to the bill. Wednesday is the last day for the Senate to consider local and consent bills.

The Senate convenes at 10 a.m. You can watch the proceedings live here

What If Underwear Models Had Dad Bods?

Summer 2015’s hottest men’s health trend is apparently doughnuts, pizza and beer.

But we have a feeling the dad bod craze was always a bit of a nonstarter.

The folks over at Distractify seem to feel differently, though. They reimagined some iconic underwear advertisements with dad bods replacing the hard-won gym bods.

Which do you prefer?

Ireland Gay Marriage Vote Is A 'Defeat For Humanity,' Vatican Official Says

Ireland Gay Marriage Vote Is A 'Defeat For Humanity,' Vatican Official Says
VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican’s secretary of state has called the Irish vote to legalize gay marriage a “defeat for humanity.”

Cardinal Pietro Parolin said he personally was saddened by the landslide decision, in which more than 62 percent of voters in the Roman Catholic country voted “yes,” despite church teaching that marriage is only between a man and woman. In comments to reporters Tuesday evening, Parolin referred to remarks by the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, that results showed the church needed to do a “reality check.” Parolin said the church needs to acknowledge the reality “but in the sense of reinforcing its commitment to evangelization.”

He said: “I don’t think you can speak only about a defeat for Christian principles but a defeat for humanity.”

London Man Shares Harrowing Account Of Being Raped And How It Changed His Life

London Man Shares Harrowing Account Of Being Raped And How It Changed His Life

issues“I’m just an ordinary guy, with an ordinary job,” Ben Alexander writes in a new op-ed published by The Independent. “You see me on the way to the office or down the pub at the weekend; I blend into the crowd, just another face in London.”

But Alexander carries with him a secret which, until recently, has brought him shame.

“[S]even years, five months, and a few days ago, another man raped me,” he writes. “He was bigger and stronger than me, and I was drunk.”

Alexander explains in harrowing detail how the man pinned him to the ground, shoving his face in the mud. He begged the man to stop. When he refused, Alexander called out for help, but nobody heard his cries.

“He didn’t use a condom,” he recalls. “I was deeply ashamed and embarrassed.”

After surviving the assault, Alexander could not bring himself to report it to police, afraid he would be “scorned and ignored.” He did, however, see doctor about getting Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), the drug used to prevent HIV infection in people who might have been exposed to the virus.

“The doctor I saw wasn’t sympathetic,” he recalls. “He told me that he couldn’t help me if I wasn’t prepared to help myself, and that he wouldn’t give me PEP unless I reported this to the police as a crime.”

Ultimately Alexander says he was left feeling “sick” and like “the rape was my fault” by the visit. Thankfully, he found another doctor who was willing to prescribe him the drugs he needed.

“Being raped changed me,” he writes. “[It] left me scared of the dark, checking the door’s locked all the time, often sleeping with the lights on.”

This went on for several years, until he finally contacted SurvivorsUK, a group that provides support to male victims of rape and sexual abuse, where he was assigned a therapist to help talk through his experience.

Though his rapist was never caught, Alexander still considers himself “lucky.”

“I’m HIV negative,” he writes, “which means that either my attacker wasn’t positive, or the PEP worked. And I’d now say I’m in a very good place in my life.”

“SurvivorsUK was instrumental in saving my life,” he concludes, “and giving me the confidence not to let my rape define who I am. … I’m now living without fear or shame, with confidence and strength.”
