Jordan Steffy, Gay Teen Who Fought Back Against Bully in Viral Video, Tells Story to Tamron Hall: WATCH

Jordan Steffy, the 16-year-old LaPorte, Indiana high school student who went viral this week in a video defending himself against a bully he said had been calling him “faggot” for years, appeared on Tamron Hall’s daytime talk show this week. He spoke to Hall about what led to the fight.

Hall and Jordan noted that his bully is now getting attacked on social media, and Jordan told Hall he wants it to stop: “I want all the negative comments going towards him to stop. I have no idea what’s going on in his life, as he has no idea what’s going on in mine. I can’t hold what he said accountable against him, because I don’t know how he was raised. …  I don’t know if it was a heat-of-the-moment thing. I don’t know if it was what he truly believes in. But I can’t hold him accountable for being bullied against hundreds if not thousands of people.”

Jordan is leaving LaPorte High School to be home schooled after the incident. He doesn’t appear to be happy about it.

Jordan Steffy finally reached his limit.

After being called a “f*ggot” by the same student nearly every day since the seventh grade, the out high school junior was forced to take matters into his own hands last week after teachers refused to help him.

Two different clips show Steffy fighting back against his bully and racked up over 10 million views in just a matter of days.

The physical altercation happened inside a classroom at Laporte High School in La Porte, Indiana. Both videos show the bully calling Jordan a “f*ggot” and advancing on him despite being asked to step back.

“Back the f*ck up out of my face, now,” Jordan is heard saying. “Cause I’m not playing with you.”

“Why you in my face, f*ggot?” the bully replies, advancing on him.

“Don’t f*cking play with me,” Jordan says. “Don’t f*cking do it.”

“Don’t f*cking put your hands on me f*ggot,” the bully replies, taking another step closer.

And that’s when Jordan takes a swing at the kid, knocking him off balance. More blows are thrown before an adult’s voice can finally be heard saying, “Hey! Hey, Jordan! That’s enough!” and the video stops.

Steffy tells Insider that he’s been enduring homophobic bullying at school since he came out five years ago. Last week’s altercation was sparked over something the bully posted about him on social media.

Says Steffy:

“He made an anti-gay post with a picture of me on it saying how he hated gays and a bunch of throwing up emojis all over it. I walked up to him and said ‘Why did you post this?’ He said ‘It was just a post.’ And I said ‘Well, it’s not just a post. It’s a post about me, saying how you dislike who I am, and I don’t appreciate that.’ He went on to say ‘Okay, but what are you going to do about it?’ I said ‘I’m not going to deal with this, this is the last time I’m called anything.’ And then he said ‘What are you going to do about it, faggot?’ And that’s when I was like ‘No, I’m not doing this.’”

Steffy says he’s reported the bullying to school officials many times in the past, but more often than not, he’s the one who ends up getting in trouble.

“It seemed like I was getting in more trouble for reporting it than I was if I didn’t say anything at all,” he says. “It was doing me more harm than it was good.”

After last week’s fight, Steffy was sent to the principal’s office and suspended. He tells Insider he’s glad he stood up for himself, even if it means he has to miss a school dance he was looking forward to.

“If I could take it back, personally, I would,” he says. “But I’m glad I stood up for myself. If you were in my shoes, you’d probably get sick of it and you’d want to stand up for yourself.”

But while teachers and school administrators may not have Jordan’s back, the rest of the internet does. Since the videos went viral, he has received an outpouring of support.

Sending love your way. Standing up for ourselves is the hardest thing, sorry you had to endure this. ?

I stand with you. Every single person sitting there in complacency in that classroom should be ASHAMED of themselves

I’m sorry you had to go there, but I love that you stood your ground. Keep being you! Xoxo

When my junior high bully pushed me against the wall early in my freshman year of high school, I saw red and pushed back – not nearly as effectively as you! – and he never bothered me again. I hope the word gets out to give you your space – I wish I had your guts 40 years ago!

Jordan Steffy, a bullied high school student, after fighting back against a student who he later said had been calling him a “faggot” since the second grade. The fight is said to have taken place at Laporte High School in La Porte, Indiana. Two clips of the altercation have been viewed more than 10 million times.

“Back the f**k up out of my face, now,” said Jordan. “Cause I’m not playing with you.”

“Why you in my face, faggot?” replied the bully.

Don’t f**king play with me. Don’t f**king do it,” said Jordan to the bully.

“Don’t f**king put your hands on me faggot,” the bully replied, approaching Jordan.

“Don’t f**king do it,” said Jordan, taking the first of several walloping swings at his classmate, knocking him off balance. “What’s up. Cause I’m motherf**king done with you. Call me a fag one more f**king time and I’m gonna f**king pop your ass. Wassup? Wassup motherf**ker?”

“Wassup, bitch?” said Jordan, landing several blows on his tormenter.

Replying to Twitter users after the clips went viral, Jordan said, “I honestly was just looking for an apology but he acted like it was no big deal and that has been the word to define me since 2nd grade.”

He also thanked people for showing him support: “I really can’t believe people actually are around to tell me that it was ok to stick up for myself !”

When someone called him a “king,” Jordan replied: “Noooo I can’t be found any better than any person just because I stuck up for myself I want other kids who are going through the same thing day in to day out from friends ,classmates ,random people to stick up for themselves and to better them for them and to have confidence !!”

Another Twitter user told him to take up karate or MMA, to which Jordan replied: “I don’t fight really so it would be pointless I wanted him and others to know I was done with the constant hating comments that were made towards me constantly.”

Jordan said both he and his bully were suspended, but he was suspended for longer because of the fighting. He added, “I am taking it as a lesson to not be anyone’s doormat and to leave your shoes at the door.”

He also said his mom was pulling him out of school: “My mom is pulling me into homeschool just because she doesn’t agree with how it was handled.”

To a mom who told him he did good, Jordan replied, that his mom told him the same thing: “She told me that she does not condone fighting but this is something she told me it was ok to use to stick up for me and many people who are who they choose to be.”

While some social media users are telling Jordan he should have gotten physical, the majority are cheering him on for standing up for himself. Others are scolding the teacher and school for not intervening in the situation.
