Actress Mya Taylor Makes History at Spirit Awards

Last night, Mya Taylor won Best Supporting Female at the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards, making her the first transgender actress to win a major film award.

Taylor played Alexandra in “Tangerine,” a critically acclaimed film on the enduring friendship between two transgender women on the streets.

While accepting her award, Taylor called on the industry to support more transgender talent.

“There is transgender talent,” said Taylor. “There’s very beautiful transgender talent, so you better get out there and put it in your next movie.”

HRC congratulates Taylor on her historic win.
