Must-See LGBTQ TV: ‘The Magicians’ season finale, and a double date episode of ‘Jane the Virgin’

Wednesday night sees the finale of Syfy’s The Magicians. Based off Lev Grossman’s popular novels, the show has been praised for it’s in depth depiction of magical worlds and the characters within them, as well as being a fun adventure series. The show boast a number of LGBTQ characters including main ensemble cast member Eliot, whose character plays a significant role this season. The show also incudes trans actress Candis Cayne playing a Fairy Queen. In the finale, the group finds what they’re looking for and attempt once and for all to get magic back. The Magicians: Wednesday, 9pm on Syfy.

A new episode of Jane the Virgin on Friday will continue to delve into this season’s storyline of the relationship between Petra and Rosario Dawson’s Jane Ramos (shortened to JR). This has been a refreshing arc, to see one of the regular characters fall for a woman, and for the show to portray it with heart as opposed to shock value. On this week’s episode, Jane, Rafael, Petra and JR all go out together, Jane is bothered to learn that JR doesn’t like her. Jane the Virgin: Friday, 9pm on The CW.
