Donald Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he’s “looking forward” to speaking with special counsel Robert Mueller under oath about Russian meddling in the U.S. election.

“I would do it under oath.”

The NYT adds:

Mr. Trump spoke with reporters in the doorway of his chief of staff’s office, an impromptu news conference before he departed for the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He also said he would be willing to answer questions under oath, but not until after asking whether Hillary Clinton, his 2016 campaign rival, has spoken under oath to the F.B.I. in the investigation into her use of a private email server while she served as secretary of state. Mrs. Clinton gave a voluntary interview to investigators in July 2016.

Revealed: The Worst Sandwiches For The Environment

Revealed: The Worst Sandwiches For The Environment

Your daily shop-bought butty might be delicious but, according to a new study rating the carbon footprint of the nation’s favourite sandwiches, buying ready-made is definitely not good for the planet.

Researchers from the University of Manchester have found that prepackaged sarnies containing cheese, prawns or pork – such as bacon, ham or sausages – are bad news for the environment. And the worst is the ‘all-day breakfast’ sandwich featuring egg, bacon and sausage which generates 1,441 grams of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2 eq.) – roughly the same emissions as driving a car for 12 miles.

Sandwiches made at home are better for the planet, the researchers found, with the humble ham and cheese sarnie proving to be most environmentally-friendly of the nation’s favourites. Specifically a sandwich made from 58g of bread, 8g of ham, 20g of cheese and 13g of mayo.

Ready-made sandwiches are worse for the environment than making your own at home. Bringing a packed lunch can reduce carbon emissions by half.

The study considered the carbon footprint of 40 home-made and pre-packaged sandwiches, and looked at the whole life cycle of sandwiches: from the production of ingredients and packaging, to food waste. The most significant finding was that making your own sandwiches at home can reduce carbon emissions by a half.

Some of the largest contributors to a sandwich’s carbon footprint are: agricultural production, processing ingredients, keeping sandwiches chilled in supermarkets and shops, packaging material and transporting materials. In ready-made sandwiches in particular, researchers recommend avoiding ingredients that have a higher carbon footprint such as lettuce, tomato, cheese and meat.

The worst sandwiches in terms of carbon footprint

1. Ready-made all day breakfast: 1,441 CO2 eq.

2. Ready-made ham and cheese: 1,350 CO2 eq.

3. Ready-made prawn and mayo: 1,255 CO2 eq.

4. Ready-made egg and bacon: 1,182 CO2 eq.

5. Ready-made ham salad: 1,119 CO2 eq.

According to the British Sandwich Association (BSA) more than 11.5 billion sandwiches are consumed each year in the UK alone. Around half of those are made at home with the rest bought in shops, supermarkets and service stations.

That means the UK spends nearly £8 billion a year on them, at an average cost of £2 per snack.

Professor Adisa Azapagic, from University of Manchester’s School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Sciences, said: “Given that sandwiches are a staple of the British diet as well as their significant market share in the food sector, it is important to understand the contribution from this sector to the emissions of greenhouse gases.”

She said consuming 11.5 billion sandwiches annually in the UK generates, on average, 9.5 million tonnes of CO2 eq. This is equivalent to the annual use of 8.6 million cars.

So next time you consider buying a shop-bought bap, you know what to do.

Joel Taylor, who starred in the Discovery show Storm Chasers, has died on an Atlantis gay cruise in the Caribbean.

Taylor died of a suspected drug overdose, according to TMZ:

A rep for the boat tells us Taylor was found unresponsive in his cabin Tuesday and law enforcement was alerted when the boat arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, “It appears the death could be an overdose and Joel Taylor was consuming controlled substances.”

A passenger who interacted with Joel tells TMZ, Joel had consumed enough GHB on the dance floor Tuesday that he was rendered unconscious and taken off the dance floor by 2 people and back to his room.

The NY Daily News adds:

One cruise ship-goer said Taylor was knocked unconscious after consuming a large quantity of GHB, an anti-sleep medication used to treat narcolepsy, on the dance floor. The source said Taylor was removed from the floor by two friends who then took him to his cabin.

The boat, chartered by a private company, set sail Jan. 20 and was slated to return to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Saturday morning, according to The Blast. Law enforcement was called when the ship docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

CNN adds:

“We can confirm that Joel Taylor has passed away while on a cruise,” funeral director Richard Duggar II said in a statement on behalf of Taylor’s family. “The cause of the death has not yet been determined. We ask for your understanding during this difficult time and your respect for the family while they deal with the loss of their son. “

Taylor was 38. His death was first announced by fellow storm chaser Reed Timmer on Tuesday night.

Said Timmer: “RIP my best friend and storm chasing partner, Joel Taylor. I am shocked and absolutely devastated by the loss of my incredible, caring friend. We chased so many intense storms, and I wish we could have just one more storm chase. I’ll miss you forever, Joel. We lost a legend”

Guest At Men-Only Presidents Club Dinner Said He Was Glad Daughter Wasn’t There, Waitress Claims

Guest At Men-Only Presidents Club Dinner Said He Was Glad Daughter Wasn’t There, Waitress Claims
Hostesses at the controversial men-only dinner held by the Presidents Club were considered “play things” for men to “gawp at” and touch, a waitress has said.

The woman, aged in her 20s, claimed some of the women who then went to an after-party were treated by a number of men there as if they were sex workers.

Speaking anonymously to ITV News, she described how she had been made to feel very uncomfortable during the evening and was shocked by the behaviour of some of those in attendance.

She told the broadcaster: “I realised quite soon it was an odd job. It wasn’t a usual job. And the way the men behaved made me feel incredibly uncomfortable.”

Asked what the overall message appeared to be after the women first entered the room at the event, she said: “We were play things. We were objects for them to gawp at, touch. To be laughed at.”

She said she believed some women working there “knew what it was about and it was a fun time for them to get drunk” but added that many appeared uncomfortable and looked “deflated” by the end of the night.

She added that some men she spoke to also seemed uneasy about what was going on.

She said: “One guy said: ‘Is this happening? I’ve never been to this event before, it’s really odd.’ One guy said: ‘I wouldn’t want my daughter to go through this.’”

At an after-party she said some other girls entered the room and “acted more provocatively”.

Asked if she believed they may have been sex workers she said: “Yes. I was really wary of it and I was disgusted that was happening. I was worried about some of the girls who were talking to men.

“The men were treating them like sex workers. They were putting hands up skirts. Touching inappropriately. Some guys kissing other girls. It was uncomfortable.”

She said she is pleased the club has announced it is to close, adding: “I’ve done events before where you just serve drinks and wait around. I didn’t think it would be this seedy. We were paid to party and get as drunk as we could.”

Dangerous Nominee Sam Brownback Confirmed as Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom

Dangerous Nominee Sam Brownback Confirmed as Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom

HRC issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed the nomination of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback — Donald Trump’s anti-LGBTQ nominee for Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. Vice President Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote after Brownback’s nomination failed to earn a majority of votes in the Senate. Despite last minute drama on the Senate floor, Brownback now joins the ranks of other anti-LGBTQ nominees put forward by the Trump-Pence Administration. HRC previously called on the Senate to oppose Brownback’s nomination.

One of the nation’s least popular governors, Brownback has an extensive history of opposing equality at every turn and has promoted discriminatory laws in Kansas. In 2015, Brownback shamefully attacked LGBTQ state employees by stripping away non-discrimination protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Later that year, following the landmark ruling declaring marriage equality law of the land, Brownback issued another blatantly discriminatory executive order against LGBTQ Kansans. The measure prohibited the state government from taking action against taxpayer funded organizations that deny services to same sex couples based on religious beliefs. As governor, he also orchestrated a policy change that would make it nearly impossible for transgender Kansans to change their birth certificates to reflect their gender identity.

“For decades, Sam Brownback has attacked the LGBTQ community and worked to undermine fairness and equality. His extremist, anti-LGBTQ actions should disqualify him from representing the people of the United States,” said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy. “Donald Trump and Mike Pence are stacking the administration with anti-LGBTQ politicians determined to carry out their harmful and discriminatory policies. We are deeply disappointed that the Senate has chosen to confirm Brownback’s nomination.”

Brownback doubled down on his discriminatory record during his hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on October 4, when he pointedly refused to answer Senator Tim Kaine’s (D-VA) repeated question on if there were “any circumstance under which religious freedom can justify criminalizing, imprisoning, or executing somebody based on their LGBT status could be deemed acceptable because somebody asserts they are religiously motivated in doing so.”

As Ambassador, Brownback is tasked with promoting religious freedom as a key objective of U.S. foreign policy while monitoring religious persecution and discrimination around the world. This position has historically played an important role in combating the dangerous and often deadly religious persecution that plagues so many corners of our world. While this an important mission, Brownback’s nomination demonstrates the Trump-Pence Administration is intent on changing the charge of the Ambassador to instead be centered on discrimination.

Senate confirms unqualified candidate for Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom with their approval of Sam Brownback

Senate confirms unqualified candidate for Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom with their approval of Sam Brownback

Brownback is an avid proponent of religious exemptions who has displayed a fundamental misunderstanding of religious freedom

NEW YORK – GLAAD – the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, released the following statement in response to the Senate confirming Gov. Sam Brownback to become Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom with a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Mike Pence.

“There is a vast difference between combating the real and horrific persecution facing religious minorities across the globe and Brownback’s own record of distorting religious freedom to promote anti-LGBTQ discrimination,” said Sarah Kate Ellis President and CEO of GLAAD. “Brownback now joins the ranks of an administration fully committed to promoting religious exemptions as a weapon of discrimination against LGBTQ people and other vulnerable communities.”

During his time as governor of Kansas, Brownback signed into law legislation that forced universities to fund student organizations that openly discriminate and block membership to LGBTQ students under the guise of “religious freedom.” With his new position, Brownback’s distortion of religious freedom threatens LGBTQ people both at home and abroad.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Gov. Sam Brownback’s Anti-LGBTQ Record

  • Original cosponsor of a proposed federal marriage amendment, Brownback called marriage equality “radical social experimentation” and “a grave threat to our central social institution.”
  • Claimed marriage equality is “harmful to the future of the Republic.”
  • Rescinded an executive order stating Kansas state workers could not face discrimination, harassment, or job termination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Voted against LGBTQ hate crimes legislationstating: “This is something we have got to fight against, that somehow that the thought is what the crime is, and that being moved into an agenda not allowing people to speak their beliefs about homosexuality.”
  • Temporarily blocked the confirmation of a federal judge solely because she attended the commitment ceremony of a same-sex couple.
  • Rejected President Obama’s federal guidance on transgender students using facilities that match their gender identity.
  • Signed a so-called “religious freedom” law allowing college campus groups to exclude members based on religious beliefs without losing public funds.
  • Said about marriage equality: “When you do these vast, social experiments–and that’s what this is, when you redefine marriage–they’re not done in isolation. They impact the rest of the culture around you. When you take the sacredness out of marriage, you will drive the marriage rates down.”
  • Claimed the military’s discriminatory Don’t Ask Don’t Tell ban was “good policy” and “the right thing for us to do in the military.
