THE SIMPSONS. Show trolls Trump on Puerto Rico.

Thank you Moe for understanding how we feel. We have very little power but having @TheSimpsons in our corner fills our hearts with light.

Rand Paul the American wayRAND PAUL. Republican senator injured in assault at home: ‘Republican Sen. Rand Paul has five rib fractures, including three displaced fractures and bruised lungs, after an assault in his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a senior adviser told CNN. “Displaced rib fractures can lead to life-threatening injuries such as: hemopneumothorax, pneumothorax, pneumonia, internal bleeding, laceration of internal organs and lung contusions,” said Doug Stafford, the senior adviser, in a statement. Paul sustained what were initially reported as “minor injuries” after a neighbor allegedly assaulted him in his home Friday. Kentucky State Troopers said the neighbor, Rene Albert Boucher, “intentionally assaulted” the senator.’

RUSSIA PROBE. Paul Manafort bail arrangement: “In a court filing Saturday, lawyers for Manafort offered to pledge three properties as part of the bail arrangement: Manafort’s Trump Tower apartment in Manhattan, a condo several miles south in Chinatown and Manafort’s primary home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Prosecutors said in their response Sunday they’re not sure those properties are worth the $8 million Manafort’s attorneys claimed.”

POOR TASTE? Larry David hammered for making Concentration Camp joke on SNL.

SOUTH AFRICA. Disney Channel pulls Andi Mack following outrage over gay kid storyline.

TEXAS SHOOTING. Attorney General Ken Paxton urges people to bring more guns to church: “All I can say is, you know, in Texas at least we have the opportunity to have concealed-carry, And so if it’s a place where somebody has the ability to carry, there’s always the opportunity that gunman will be taken out before he has the opportunity to kill very many people.”

BISEXUAL. Twitter blocks search term in photos and news.

NORTH CAROLINA. Residual damage from HB2 remains: “The state’s most powerful elected officials just recently sparred, in effect, over the matter of who should be allowed to use which restrooms in publicly owned buildings. The politics of House Bill 2, as the now-repealed law is still commonly known, has also touched mayoral races in Charlotte and Raleigh. States like California and New York have kept their bans on public employees using tax dollars for nonessential trips to North Carolina. And some transgender residents remain so anxious that they time meals to avoid the need to use public restrooms.”

THE LION KING. Elton John gives surprise performance at 20th anniversary performance of Broadway show.

LUKEWARM. Hong Kong declines to celebrate news that it got the Gay Games: “If our competitors had won, no doubt they would have burst with joy. But here in Hong Kong, the only reaction from the government was that they had “noted” the outcome. It goes to show that officials pay lip service when it comes to supporting the city as a diverse and inclusive society. They only boast about how multicultural the community is or take pride in identifying Hong Kong as “Asia’s world city”, but they take no action to nurture and support diversity in all forms.”

SALT LAKE CITY. Dozens rally against LDS Church at mass resignation event: “The resignation event has been held eight times since 2011 (there was more than one some years), according to organizers. Sunday’s gathering was scheduled on the second anniversary of the LDS Church changing its policy regarding children with LGBTQ parents.”

STRANGER THINGS. People are uncomfortable that the show’s creators pushed a teen actor to do an unscripted kiss.

INTRUDER. Dog vs Dinosaur.

MONDAY MUSCLE. Doug Locke.

Theresa May Says ‘Sorry’ To Victims Of Westminster Sex Harassment Scandal As New Complaints System Agreed

Theresa May Says ‘Sorry’ To Victims Of Westminster Sex Harassment Scandal As New Complaints System Agreed
Theresa May has apologised to victims of sex harassment in Westminster, admitting that “too many” women have been subject to abuses of power “over too many years”.

The Prime Minister spoke after she, Jeremy Corbyn and other party leaders agreed to introduce new safeguards as early as next month to protect Parliamentary and political staff – amid fresh allegations of historic and current sleaze.

A former junior Labour party researcher alleged that a member of Ed Miliband’s office staff had tried to kiss her against her will and left her fearing she would be sacked for refusing him.

And a former Tory MP was accused of putting his hand up a journalist’s skirt while they were live on air during Radio 4’s Any Questions programme.

Meanwhile Cabinet Minister Damian Green was interviewed on Monday by a special Cabinet Office ethics chief investigating allegations that he had made inappropriate advances on a young party activist and downloaded ‘extreme’ pornography on his Parliamentary computer. Green denies the claims.

May and Corbyn – as well as Lib Dem leader Vince Cable, Green leader Caroline Lucas, the SNP’s Ian Blackford and DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson – met in the PM’s Commons office for an unprecedented cross-party meeting to agree a new complaints procedure for harassment claims.

Speaking after the meeting, May said “I’m sorry that we have seen these abuses of power – too many taking place over too many years.

“And the fact that they have taken place here at our seat of democracy should be a matter of shame for us all.”

“I think if this hasn’t happened to you it’s difficult to appreciate the impact that being a victim of this sort of behaviour can have, it simply has a lasting impact on people.”

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon is the highest profile casualty of the sex harassment scandal, quitting his post last week over claims that he had behaved inappropriately towards younger women.

Four Tory MPs and one Labour MP are facing internal party inquiries, while Conservative Charlie Elphicke has had his case referred to the police.

HuffPost UK understands that at the Westminster meeting on Monday all the leaders agreed that trade unions should have a key role in helping draft the new system, which will be independent, as well as better staff support and a new working group to hammer out the details.

May said: “What is important is that people who have been victims of this behaviour – be it sexual harassment or bullying of any sort – that those victims feel confident in coming forward with their complaints and knowing that there will be an impartial and proper and fair investigation of those complaints.”

Meanwhile, BBC Radio 4′s PM programme reported that a former female member of staff in Ed Miliband’s office had spoken out about an incident in which a male colleague allegedly closed the door behind her and attempted to kiss her.

The woman, whose identity was concealed and was referred to by the false name Susan, did not inform Mr Miliband or make a complaint at the time.

She told the programme: “I thought, ‘Oh God, I’m going to be fired’. I thought he was going to be angry that I rebuffed his advance and there might be consequences for me. I thought the best thing to protect my position was not to say anything.”

The woman said she would have liked to have been able to complain to an independent body, as she believed that if she reported it to the party, “they would close ranks on me as my position was very junior”.

In a statement released by his office to PM, Mr Miliband said he was “deeply concerned to hear about this allegation of totally unacceptable behaviour”.

He added: “I would strongly encourage the individual concerned to use the complaints process of the Labour Party to take her allegation forward. She should receive the support she has a right to expect.”

In a speech in Westminster Abbey, former PM Sir John Major attacked both the media and political parties for the current mistrust in politics, citing Vote Leave’s ‘take back control’ slogan as a dishonest ‘absurdity’.

Major called for a crackdown on special advisers and for the first time suggested that it was time to increase state funding of parties to reduce the influence of rich businessmen and trade unions.

“More funding through the public purse,,,would be deeply unpopular and I share the general distaste for it.  Nonetheless, it may be the least bad option.

“A compromise might be more State funding than at present but, in return, a legal limit to donations from individuals or business or Trades Unions.  This should be set at a level where no-one could reasonably argue that it influences policy.”

Dacre Montgomery audition

Dacre Montgomery audition

Dacre Montgomery, who plays aggressive and brash Billy Hargrove on season two of the sci-fi drama Stranger Things, shared his audition tape for the show with GQ.

The rumored “insane” audition tape has generated a lot of online chatter and Montgomery says the Duffer Brothers said “it caused a bit of a stir at Netflix” when it was played at a big board meeting.

In any case, the tape worked and it captured their attention.

Montgomery reportedly got in a G-string and danced around for part of the tape (that part is unfortunately not included):

“I think Billy’s kind of unpredictable nature, it’s not like me. It’s obviously not like me to get in a G-string and do that, so I was like, what wouldn’t Dacre do? And when I heard the music, I was like, well, whatever. YOLO [laughs]. Because I think that’s Billy in every way. I get so self-conscious, so it was a nice reprieve from that, to be able to do that at home, during the day, while none of my family was home, and just go for it, to just have that moment of freedom, and be able to show them that I can have that uninhibited freedom. And I was like, Okay, what better way to do that than to oil myself up, put on a G-string, and… yeah.”

Watch:

Montgomery recently addressed fan theories that his character Billy is gay because of his hostile attitude toward Steve Harrington (Joe Keery).

The Huffington Post reports:

Montgomery reiterated that Billy’s aggression in the face of other male characters doesn’t stem from racism or homophobia.

“Lucas, unfortunately, is a target. I think … he becomes a target, and I don’t think it’s about race. Just like I don’t think Steve — somebody touched on that the other day. ‘Now is Billy attracted to Steve?’ And I was like, ‘No, I don’t think he is.’ I don’t think it’s like this confused, homoerotic kind of thing. I think it’s literally he’s threatened by all these characters in his life,” he said.

Theresa May Urged To Sack Boris Johnson After New Blunder Risks Increasing Jail Term For British-Iranian

Theresa May Urged To Sack Boris Johnson After New Blunder Risks Increasing Jail Term For British-Iranian
Theresa May is under intense pressure to sack Boris Johnson amid fears that his latest diplomatic blunder could add an extra five years to the jail term of a British-Iranian charity worker.

Already reeling from the Westminster sex harassment scandal, the PM tried to declare “full confidence” in both Johnson and International Development Secretary Priti Patel, who was dragged into a separate row involving Israel.

The Prime Minister defended both her Cabinet ministers for “doing a good job” despite calls for both of them to be fired.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was on a family holiday in Iran last year when she was arrested for spying in Tehran, a claim vigorously denied by the British government and her family.

But Johnson told MPs last week that the 38-year-old had been “teaching people journalism” – remarks that have been seized on by the Iranian regime as proof that she was “spreading propaganda” against the state.

Her employers Thomson-Reuters Foundation urged Johnson to “correct the serious mistake he made” in evidence to MPs last week during a hearing of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee.

The Foreign Office refused to retract his comments and said they had been misinterpreted. Johnson will be “calling the Iranian Foreign Minister to raise again his serious concerns about the case and ensure his remarks are not misrepresented,” the FCO said.

However, her husband Richard Ratcliffe told HuffPost UK that his wife was ordered to appear before a fresh court hearing in the light of Johnson’s remarks.

And Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry wrote to Johnson on Monday night to say that if Iran increases the sentence he should “take full responsibility in a moral and political sense…and consider your position accordingly.”

Tulip Siddiq, the MP for Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s Hampstead constituency, said she was “stunned by the incompetence of the Foreign Secretary”.

And amid the backlash, Labour MPs called on Johnson to be sacked for his latest blunder. John Woodcock told HuffPost UK: “Boris’s fly by night statements and occasional buffoonery are dreadful at the best of times.

“But in such an important post as Foreign Secretary, it’s appalling that his blunder has possibly extended this poor woman’s sentence. It raises very serious question about his credibility in this role.”

Johnson was already under attack after he had joked at the Tory conference about ‘dead bodies’ in the street hindering Libya’s hopes of becoming a Dubai-style tourist destination.

Meanwhile, May also faced calls to fire International Development Secretary Priti Patel after she admitted failing to tell Downing Street that that she had met the Israeli Prime Minister and officials on a holiday this summer.

No.10 revealed that May had reprimanded Patel on Monday morning in a personal meeting in which she “reminded her of her obligations” to comply with the ministerial code on proper conduct.

Labour’s Shadow International Development Secretary Kate Osamor called for Patel to be sacked.

She pointed out that the ministerial code says that “ministers must ensure that no conflict arises, or could reasonably be perceived to arise, between their public duties and their private interests, financial or otherwise”.

Patel was forced to issue an extraordinary statement of apology on Monday, just days after the BBC revealed she had held a string of official meetings in Israel during a family holiday.

On Friday, she suggested the Foreign Secretary had known of the trip beforehand, even though Downing Street hadn’t.  Ministers are required to inform the Foreign Office of any official business on behalf of the Government overseas.

But Patel failed to disclose that she had actually met Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on the trip, which consisted of 12 meetings in 12 days as she was accompanied by Conservative Friends of Israel chief Lord Polak.

The PM’s official spokesman said: “The Prime Minister met the Secretary of State this morning to remind her of the obligations which exist under the Ministerial Code.”

He added: “The code is not explicit in this area. The Prime Minister has asked the Cabinet Secretary to look at how the code could be made clearer in this respect.

“She’s been clear she could have been more precise in her use of language.” But the spokesman insisted that the Foreign Office had concluded that “UK national interests were not damaged or affected” by the trip.

Downing Street could not say why there would be no investigation by the Cabinet Office into a possible breach of the ministerial code.

First Secretary of State Damian Green and International Trade minister Mark Garnier are both under investigation by the Cabinet Office’s ‘Ethics and Propriety’ chief Sue Gray.

Lib Dem international development spokeswoman Baroness Sheehan said: “It is now apparent that Patel knowingly ignored ministerial rules, and that makes her position untenable.

“Just because May’s government is in meltdown doesn’t give the Prime Minister an excuse to ignore this serious infraction.”
