He was a true creative – a compelling artist in every sense. His honed craft ranged from poetry to photography. His creativity touched nearly every person he met and permeated everything he did – his writing, his images, the life he lived. Prolific hardly begins to describe him. He was a one man juggernaut of art making, publishing, writing and performing.”

refugees trumpPRIVACY. Trump wants to remove internet privacy rules enacted under Obama: “The move means Verizon, Comcast or AT&T can continue tracking and sharing people’s browsing and app activity without permission, and it alarmed consumer advocates and Democratic lawmakers. They warned that broadband providers have the widest look into Americans’ online habits, and that without the rules, the companies would have more power to collect data on people and sell sensitive information.”

NICHOLAS KRISTOF. There’s a smell of treason in the air: “The fundamental question now isn’t about Trump’s lies, or intelligence leaks, or inadvertent collection of Trump communications. Rather, the crucial question is as monumental as it is simple: Was there treason?”

Gloria Gaynor to hold disco concert at Library of Congress: “In May, Gaynor is coming to the Library of Congress, where she’ll perform in the Great Hall as part of the Library’s “Bibliodiscotheque,” a series of films, lectures and events celebrating the disco era, capped with — what else? — a late-night dance party in the historic Jefferson Building. All events are free and open to the public.”

Trump Appoints Radical Anti-LGBTQ Activist to Lead HHS Civil Rights Office

Trump Appoints Radical Anti-LGBTQ Activist to Lead HHS Civil Rights Office

HRC blasted President Trump’s decision to appoint anti-LGBTQ activist Roger Severino to lead the division charged with enforcing civil rights law at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Trump quietly selected Severino this week to serve as Director of the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at HHS. Severino’s extreme views opposing transgender people and women’s rights have garnered praise and prominence from the far right.

Until this week, Severino served as Director of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society for the Heritage Foundation where he wrote scathing opinions on transgender issues, abortion rights, and gay marriage. He repeatedly denounced and worked to oppose OCR’s implementation of Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which provides critical non-discrimination protections based on gender identity and sex stereotyping  in federally-funded health programs. He also referred to the Obama Administration’s guidance to allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matched their gender identity as a “radical social experiment.

Severino is also a staunch opponent of access to contraception and other sexual and reproductive health services, opposing the ACA’s contraceptive access provision and calling for defunding Planned Parenthood.

“I could not think of a more dangerous person to head up the Office of Civil Rights at HHS,” said JoDee Winterhof, Senior Vice President of Policy and Political Affairs of HRC. “Once again, Donald Trump is declaring war against our community by appointing anti-LGBTQ people at all levels of his administration. Mr. Severino takes pride in being a stark opponent of the LGBTQ community and has made it clear that his number one priority is to vilify and degrade us. We will fight tooth and nail against any attempts to roll back civil rights including access to healthcare.”

The head of HHS, Secretary Tom Price, has a long, disturbing record of opposing basic civil rights for LGBTQ people and is serving in a position of unique importance to the LGBTQ community.

This appointment is yet another example of President Trump’s increasingly long list of anti-LGBTQ extremist nominees who are in a position of power to roll back progress and do harm to LGBTQ people.

Donald’s first wife Ivana to pen parenting guide… because she did such a great job with her own kids

Donald’s first wife Ivana to pen parenting guide… because she did such a great job with her own kids

This just in: Donald Trump’s first wife, Ivana, who he cheated on with his second wife, Marla, who he cheated on with his third wife, Melania, is writing a book!

In Raising Trump, Ivana will share personal reflections on life, humorous anecdotes and “unfiltered” stories, and the lessons she taught her children–Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric–as they were “growing up Trump.”

“Every day, people ask me how I raised such great kids,” Ivana says in a statement. “They are truly amazed when I tell them that there was no magic to their upbringing.”

Because who doesn’t want tips on how to raise their kids from a woman whose children have grown up to be three of the most despised offspring in America?

According to the publisher, Raising Trump will be more than just a parenting guide. It will be a story of “motherhood, strength and resilience” and also will reflect on her “childhood in communist Czechoslovakia, her escape from the regime and relocation to New York, her whirlwind romance, and her great success as a businesswoman.”

Sounds riveting.

“As her former husband takes his place as the 45th president of the United States, his children have also been thrust into the media spotlight–but it is Ivana who raised them and proudly instilled in them what she believes to be the most important life lessons: loyalty, honesty, integrity and drive,” a press release for the book reads.

This is not Ivana’s first foray into the literary arts. In 1995, she published The Best Is Yet to Come: Coping with Divorce and Enjoying Life Again.” She also penned the romance novels For Love Alone and Free To Love.

Raising Trump will be published by Gallery Books on September 12.

Devin Nunes: Paul Manafort Has Volunteered to Interview Before House Intel Committee – WATCH

Devin Nunes

House Intel Committee Chairman Devin Nunes today said that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort has volunteered to interview before the committee. Nunes also said that he had canceled what was to be an open hearing with the chiefs of the FBI and NSA.

The Hill reports:

Nunez also said Friday he has asked Comey and National Security Agency (NSA) head Mike Rogers to brief the Intelligence Committee in a closed session.

Nunes cautioned that he does not expect to receive documentation from the NSA regarding his claims that Trump campaign associates were possibly monitored  by the Intelligence Community on Friday.

But he categorically denied that his decision to make public the information on the issue that he does have was coordinated by the White House.

Nunes would not discuss the source of the surveillance that he improperly and breathlessly delivered to Donald Trump at the White House earlier this week, would not say who was swept up in it, and says he is still the only lawmaker who has seen it.

Nunes also said “there was no wiretapping of Trump Tower,” a statement he hasn’t made categorically before.

“There was no wiretapping of Trump Tower. That didn’t happen,” House Intel Chair Devin Nunes just reiterated after new revelations this week pic.twitter.com/OzDjG914iV

“The last 24 hours in politics have been truly mind-boggling,” said Seth Meyers in last night’s A Closer Look. “You’ve got the president doubling down on his false wiretapping claim, Republicans scrambling to cobble together a health-care [bill] before anyone even knows what’s in it, and new reports that Trump associates may have coordinated with Russia.”

Meyers then pointed out the revelation that Paul Manafort had been paid $10 million to push Putin influence in the U.S.

Said Meyers: “So Trump campaign chairman’s previous job was working to advance Vladimir Putin’s agenda. That’s like finding out your babysitter’s previous job was baking children into pies.”

And as far as the health care bill went, Donald Trump was supposed to be negotiating his health care bill yesterday but instead he was in the cab of a semi after meeting with truckers at the White House.

He even honked the horn of the truck.

“In fairness, he had just seen this bumper sticker,” said Meyers. “Honk If You’re Tragically Unqualified.”

Check out the rest of Meyers’s latest assessment:

Out MLB Player David Denson Retires from Professional Baseball

David Denson

Two years since he made history as the first Major League Baseball-affiliated player to come out as openly gay, Milwaukee Brewers’ David Denson announced this week his decision to retire.

The 22-year-old first baseman and outfielder played in the minor-league Class A Wisconsin and Brevard County teams over the last two seasons. It was in August 2015 that Denson, in conjunction with out former baseball player Billy Bean,  took the landmark step to discuss his sexuality with the Milkwaukee Sentinel-Journal.

Denson says he has been treated no differently by his teammates or officials since the revelation. However, other factors have contributed to his assessment to retire:

“My feelings weren’t in the game anymore,” Denson said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “My passion for the game and drive for the game wasn’t there anymore. Don’t get me wrong. I love baseball. Baseball will always be in my heart. But wanting to do it as a career was no longer there for me anymore . . . walking away from it is one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make. But I had to do it for myself.”

Denson said he didn’t want to upset people by leaving baseball, especially those wrestling with the decision to come out as gay. But he said it was something he knew he had to do.

“I’m sure I’m letting some people down,” he said. “But I still feel like I’m connected to the game and my fans, and I want to stay connected to them. I want to be a role model for so many people.

“I think I opened the door. I showed just because I’m gay doesn’t make me any different or less of a person. If there are others who want to come out, hopefully they have my story to fall back on and see it’s OK.”
