Colton Haynes warns Snapchat they’re about to see LOTS of skin

Just how much of Colton Haynes will audiences be seeing in the new film Rough Night?

The jury’s still out, but according to one inside source — a lot.

We’re inclined to trust this highly sensitive bit of intel, as it came from Haynes himself in the form of a Snapchat share.

Related: A romance for the ages: Colton Haynes and his boyfriend’s relationship as documented on Instagram

“I’m nervous because I may or may not have a lot of clothes on in this movie and I don’t know what made the trailer or not,” he told his followers. “So you guys might be seeing something soon.”

(If you’re inclined to follow Colton on Snapchat, his username is ‘c0ltonhaynes’.)

The red band trailer, released today, doesn’t quite deliver on Colton’s anticipation build-up. It does, however, look like it could be a positive turn-around in the “stupid comedy” genre, which seems to have been in steep decline lately:

If you watched that and thought “wait isn’t Colton Haynes supposed to be in this?”, you missed his brief appearance.

While there is a noticeable lack of that “something” Colton alluded to showing off, his one moment in the trailer does offer a promising clue:

There is simply no way Colton’s cop character doesn’t end up being a stripper.

Rough Night is billed as an “edgy R-rated comedy” and stars Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz and Kate McKinnon as five besties from college who accidentally kill a male stripper (not played by Haynes) and must cover it up.

Comedy, we have to assume, ensues.

NEW MUSIC: Ed Sheeran, Bleached, Leonard Cohen, GANGLY

NEW MUSIC: Ed Sheeran, Bleached, Leonard Cohen, GANGLY

ed_sheeran

This week in New Music: Ed Sheeran (above) continues to confound critics on new album ÷, new pop-punk from Los Angeles sister act Bleached, a new video for Leonard Cohen‘s “Traveling Light” and ethereal pop Icelandic-style from not-really-a-supergroup GANGLY.

Ed Sheeran – ÷

Ed SheeranThere’s a reason Ed Sheeran‘s new album ÷ has already been played close to 1 billion times on Spotify despite having been released less than a week ago and that is because he writes catchy pop songs.

Simple as that really.

The critics hate the nicest man in pop for the same reason – there’s nothing deep in his music, nothing to be discovered beyond the immediately infectious, instantly memorable and usually sing-along-able songs on the album.

However, what Sheeran does best is write simple lyrics that appeal to the everyman (and woman): “You used to hold my hand/ And when we sipped champagne out of cider cans/ I guess if you were Lois Lane, I wasn’t Superman”

“We could change this whole world with a piano,” he sings at one point (“What Do I Know?”). Maybe not. Chris Martin has tried that too. However, he can take over pop with little more than said piano and an acoustic guitar. That’s impressive.

A low point comes with “Galway Girl,” presumably a nod to his Irish granny. The rest of the album vascillates between lovely pop and teen heartbreak friendzone saccharine ballads and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Bleached – Can You Deal?

bleached-can-you-deal-album-art-1485962248-compressedLos Angeles pop-punk sister act Bleached have followed up last year’s Welcome to the Worms with a new EP entitled, Can You Deal?

Jennifer and Jessica Clavin make pretty loud pop that comes across like an anodyne version of The Breeders, a cleaner version of Sleater Kinney or a hugely successful attempt to fuse riot girl pop with Sonic Youth as witnessed on the breezy summer pop track “Flipside”.

Have a listen below.

Leonard Cohen – “Traveling Light”

leonard-cohen-giA collaborator with the late Leonard Cohen, Sammy Slabbinck has released a video for “Traveling Light” from the legendary singer’s final album You Want It Darker.

The clip features previously unreleased footage of Cohen alongside archival video.

It opens with Cohen discussing his fading health.

“I feel a lot stronger,” he says “but I’m actually a lot weaker.”

Watch the video below.

GANGLY – “Whole Again”

gangly_mar17When is a supergroup not a supergroup?

When the members include three exceptional musicians who most people have never heard of.

In the case of Icelandic act GANGLY, the musicians in question are the brilliant Sin Fang (a sometimes-collaborator with Jonsi and Sigur Ros), Jófríður Ákadóttir (Samaris and Pascal Pinon) and Úlfur Alexander Einarsson (Oyama).

If you have in fact heard any of those acts and have a ying for ethereal Icelandic pop you will love this. If you are a newcomer we strongly suggest having a listen to the ridiculously atmospheric low key electronica that is “Whole Again”.

Did Princess Diana’s butler have a gay sex party aboard royal yacht?

Did Princess Diana’s butler have a gay sex party aboard royal yacht?

Paul Burrell

Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, has come out as gay and announced plans to marry his boyfriend. Burrell divorced his wife Maria six months ago, after 32 year of marriage, and has said that for a long time only Princess Di knew he was gay.

But what is really causing an uproar, and upset from Burrell, are claims his agent, Adam Muddle, allegedly made to The Sun claiming that he once had a gay orgy on Royal Yacht Britannia. The sex romp is said to have occurred in 1981, and resulted in members of the Navy being dismissed, as homosexuality in the armed forces was illegal at that time.

Related: The night Freddie Mercury snuck Princess Diana into a gay bar dressed as a drag king – the musical!

“Paul was there. But he wasn’t arrested or subjected to any sort of criminal charges, because he was the Queen’s right hand man at that point,” The Sun reports Muddle as having said.

“It’s believed the Queen pulled him to one side and told him how disappointed she was and told him he had to get back on the right track and find himself a nice girl and become married,” he continued.

The Sun also reported the following:

Paul’s involvement in the orgy was first hinted at in letters between him and a former pal, Greg Pead, who once claimed the pair enjoyed a romance in the 1980s.

Pead also told a 2009 television documentary that Paul had been given an ultimatum by his royal employers after being cleared — settle down or find a new job.

In further claims, former butler Paul also intends to reveal details of a “predatory gay culture” at Buckingham Palace while he worked for Her Majesty as a junior footman.

Mr Muddle added: “He’ll talk about life in Buckingham Palace, entering as an 18-year-old with no sexual experience whatsoever he soon learned that there was a gay predatory culture run by older gay men.”

Burrell is not happy with the reporting.

“I would like to unequivocally distance myself from the gutter quotes, attributed to my representative, that are not only unacceptable but totally misrepresent me,” he told MailOnline.

“I will review how and why this ‘pitch’ ever came to pass without my knowledge. I did not commission my agent to say anything along the lines of what’s been reported in The Sun.”

LGBTQ Veterans Group ‘OUTVETS’ Denied Entry in Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade

LGBTQ Veterans Group ‘OUTVETS’ Denied Entry in Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Outvets

OUTVETS, a Boston-based LGBTQ veterans organization, has been denied entry into the Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade despite marching in it for the past two years.

The reason, they say, is homophobia.

Writes the group on Facebook:

We just received word from the South Boston Allied War Veterans that OUTVETS has been denied entry into the 2017 South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade. While four members of the council advocated for our organization, the majority ruled against having OUTVETS in the parade. While the reason for our denial is unclear, one can only assume it’s because we are LGBTQ.

OUTVETS has marched in the parade for the last two years without incident. We followed their rules to the letter and our presence helped to tear down the wall of discrimination that surrounded this event. In our first year, Congressman Seth Moulton and Secretary of Veterans Services, Francisco Urena marched with our organization in support of LGBTQ Veterans and our right to be respected as Veterans for our selfless service to our nation. However, last year our organization was placed at the rear of the parade and no where near other Veterans organizations. While many wanted to quit and go home, we agreed that as an organization we were there to honor those who had served and are still serving our country.

OUTVETS complained to the organizers about this and thought we had a good working relationship with the council. We feel that with the death of former South Boston Allied War Veterans Council Commander, Brian Mahoney our strongest ally was gone and the old mindset of bigotry and discrimination crept back into the parade.

This is a sad day for the LGBTQ community but also a horrible day for Veterans. We served our country with honor and distinction. But even after successfully participating in this parade and bringing honor to those who have served, we are still fighting for the respect that comes with serving our country.

ANTI-LGBTQ STATE BILLS PASS THE 100 MARK: As lawmakers continue to meet in state capitols around the country, HRC is tracking more than 100 anti-LGBTQ bills in 29 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. These bills target transgender adults and children, LGBTQ public school students, same-sex parents and same-sex couples hoping to adopt. Many of these bills aim to give businesses and agencies receiving taxpayer-funding a license to discriminate against many different groups — from LGBTQ people to single mothers; and from unwed, cohabitating couples to interfaith couples. More from HRC.

GAVIN GRIMM WRITES IN NY TIMES — “THE FIGHT FOR TRANSGENDER RIGHTS IS BIGGER THAN ME”: In a poignant and inspiring oped for The New York Times, transgender high school student Gavin Grimm, the plaintiff in G.G. v. Gloucester County School Board, shares his struggle to be accepted, and the “crazy, stressful, busy, breathtaking, rewarding, beautiful, fantastic” road he’s traveled since challenging the discrimination perpetrated by his school board. This week, the Supreme Court of the United States announced it will not hear Gavin’s case this term, sending the case back to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in the wake of the Trump Administration’s revocation of school guidance ensuring the protection and dignity of transgender students. Read the full piece in The New York Times.

  • The Washington Post also catches up with Grimm, who says he is still glad he challenged the school board. “This doesn’t signify a loss,” Grimm told Post reporter Moriah Balingit (@ByMoriah). “We’re just going to keep moving forward as vehemently as we have been so far.” More from WaPo.

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO WEDNESDAY: When Alexandra Chandler came out as transgender at her job in the U.S. Department of Defense , she didn’t know any other transgender people in her office. She feared being forced out her job — but was supported by her supervisors, even when other employees expressed fear and ignorance about the transgender community. Listen to her conversation with Mary Louise Kelly (@NPRKelly) about this transition, anti-transgender state laws and the importances of living openly and sharing your story at NPR.

HUNDREDS RALLY AT TEXAS CAPITOL TO OPPOSE TEXAS’ ANTI-TRANS BILL: Yesterday, hundreds of Texans gave powerful public testimony in Austin opposing anti-transgender bill, SB 6. The discriminatory measure, modeled after North Carolina’s anti-LGBTQ HB2 law, would overturn non-discrimination ordinances currently providing critical protections in several major Texas cities; further, it would force state agencies, municipalities, public schools and public universities to discriminate against transgender people. Last week, nearly 70 businesses also made public their opposition to SB 6. COLORADO HOUSE PASSES BILL TO BAN SO-CALLED “CONVERSION THERAPY”: Yesterday, the Colorado House paseed HB 1156 — legislation that would protect LGBTQ youth in the state from the dangerous and abusive practice of “conversion therapy.” The bill passed through the house with bipartisan support. State LGBTQ group One Colorado has been instrumental in leading the fight for this vital bill. More from The Colorado Statesman.

HRC JOINS ORGANIZATIONS CALLING ON DHS TO HALT DEPORTATIONS OF DREAMERS: In a letter to U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly, 19 progressive organizations, are calling for a halt the deportations of Daniela Vargas of Mississippi and Daniel Ramirez of Seattle, as well as any other DREAMers in his custody, and release them back to their families and communities. LESBIAN, GAY, AND BISEXUAL PEOPLE ARE INCARCERATED AT HIGHER RATES: A new study from the American Journal of Public Health find that LGB people, particularly women, are overrepresented in the United States prison population, and that LGB people, particularly men, have much higher rate of sexual assault in the prison system than hetrosexual people. The study did not look at the transgender community, a step the study’s author hopes to remedy in the future. More from NBC.

LACK OF LAWS ENSURING EQUALITY DRIVING LGB PEOPLE OF OF HONG KONG: A recent online survey has found that nearly 40 percent of LGB (the survey did not ask about gender identity) people in Hong Kong have considered leaving because of the lack of legal protections, lack of marriage equality, or difficulties facing same-sex parents. More from South China Morning Post.

OPENLY GAY POLITICIAN FRONTRUNNER TO BE PM OF IRELAND: Ireland could make history in late March or April if the country elects Leo Varadkar as its first openly gay prime minister. Varadkar is currently the minister of social protection in the minority government headed by the Fine Gael Party. He was previously the health minister. More from HRC.
