‘BOYS TALK.’ Melania Trump talks to Anderson Cooper about her reaction to that infamous Access Hollywood tape: “And as you can see from the tape, the cameras were not on — it was only a mic. And I wonder if they even knew that the mic was on…They were kind of a boys talk…And he was lead on, like, egged on, from the host [Billy Bush].”

LARRY FLYNT. Offers $1 million for scandalous recording of Trump: ““I have always celebrated women. Women in all shapes and sizes,” the publisher of Hustler magazine said in a statement. “To treat a woman like Mr. Trump himself has is both disappointing and unbelievable, especially coming from someone who wants to be our president.”

SCORCHED EARTH. Has Donald Trump taken the GOP back 60 years? And destroyed our country in so doing? “It’s true that Trump is a Frankenstein’s Monster of the party’s own design—the apotheosis of hyperpolarization engendered by decades of cynical politicking and the othering of half of America. But who can take joy in witnessing the complete destruction of our village by it? To the extent his erstwhile supporters have abandoned him, they still own this. They made him.”

Germany Plans To Compensate Gays Convicted Under Nazi-Era Law

Germany Plans To Compensate Gays Convicted Under Nazi-Era Law

BPK 97.897

Better late than never, right? Germany is setting aside around $37 million to compensate queer people who were affected by the country’s ban on homosexuality, which lasted from 1871 to 1994. Over a hundred years of victims! Many of course have passed away, and there’s no way to compensate them or their families. And no amount of money can make up for the cultural stigma that generations have endured. But at least this is a strong gesture of reconciliation for those still with us.

Germany, which at times was quite welcoming to queer people, stopped enforcing the ban in the 1950s and 1960s, but tens of thousands were persecuted following World War II. Adolph Hitler was particularly strident in his persecution of queer people, sending 15,000 to concentration camps.

As part of the plan, victims of the law will have their records expunged.

Can you imagine if anyone proposed something like that here? Homosexuality was illegal in various states until 2002, and every now and then people are still arrested by backwards officials for flirting in public. Just imagine if someone in the government proposed that we were entitled to some form of recompense for all the discrimination we’ve endured. Oh, and still continue to endure, since in a lot of states it’s still legal to deny someone a loan, or housing, or an education because they’re gay.

Hillary Clinton, incidentally, wants to make that kind of discrimination illegal. Donald Trump wants to expand exemptions to nondiscrimination law, making it easier to kick queer people out of their home or their job. Just in case you were still wondering who to vote for, or which historical figure you might want to compare Donald Trump to.

North Carolina Artists Take Out Full Page Ad Trolling Pat McCrory on His Birthday

North Carolina Artists Take Out Full Page Ad Trolling Pat McCrory on His Birthday

hb 2 pat mccrory

A coalition of artists have taken out a full page ad in Raleigh’s News & Observer trolling Governor Pat McCrory with a birthday message that attacks him for supporting HB 2.

As we have extensively reported, that anti-LGBT law banned all local nondiscrimination ordinances in the tar heel state and prohibits transgender people from using bathrooms that correspond to their gender identity.

The ad reads, “HB2 U, Pat,” invoking a playful take on the name of the bill that has drawn so much ire from human rights advocates across the country and around the world.

Underneath that message is a picture of a rainbow-colored piece of cake.

The ad continues, “Governor McCrory, we send you best wishes today. But the real celebration will begin Nov. 8 when North Carolina votes to move in a more progressive direction.”

Designed for free by Charlotte firm BooneOakley, the missive urges voters to support candidates who favor repealing HB 2.

The News & Observer reports:

“I hope it will have a galvanizing effect as a conversation piece and let the people know that the artists of North Carolina are not in their ivory tower,” writer Allan Gurganus said Sunday. “And this does not represent the North Carolina that we know and write about.”

The group was sponsored by dozens of writers, poets and songwriters including Clyde Edgerton, Jill McCorkle, Ron Rash, Lee Smith, Bland Simpson, Judy Goldman and Charles Frazier.

Gurganus said author John Grisham, who lives in Chapel Hill, donated signed first editions to help raise money for the ad. And songwriter James Taylor donated a signed guitar.
