People are being pulled in directions they’d rather not go this week in our home entertainment line-up, from a gay couple threatened by one guy’s sisters to a businessman who wants to keep on the straight and narrow even when violence is aimed his way. Let’s dive into the details below.

Three In a Bed

($24.99 DVD; TLA Releasing)

In Manchester, England — setting for Queer As Folk creator Russell T. Davies’ long-awaited Cucumber and Banana LOGO series are based — hipster boys Nate and Jonny could find happiness together, were it not for the former’s two intrusive sisters. Drama, y’all! Extras include deleted scenes and behind the scenes footage.

A Most Violent Year

($24.99 Blu-ray, $19.98 DVD; Lionsgate)

Director J.C. Chandor — whose dialogue-driven Margin Call co-starred and was produced by Zachary Quinto — goes all retro with this 1981-set drama about an oil salesman, Abel (Oscar Isaac), whose attempts to secure a new plant are threatened by hijackings and criminal elements. Determined to not resort to violence or mafia assist, he finds himself pulled into a violent world nonetheless… Intense stuff that pays homage to The Godfather films, with flawless art direction, costumes, tense set pieces, and great performances including Jessica Chastain as Abel’s wife and Albert Brooks as his attorney. Extras include making-of featurettes, a commentary, conversations with the actors and filmmakers, deleted scenes, and more.

The Immigrant

($34.99 Blu-ray; Anchor Bay)

A Polish immigrant, played by Marion Cotillard, finds herself in the middle of a New York love triangle involving onscreen cousins Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner. Extras include a commentary and brief featurette on the film’s period stylings.

Michael Sam Performed an Emotional #DWTS Rumba About His Dad Who Won't Accept Him: VIDEO

2_sam

Michael Sam’s emotional rumba with Peta last night on Dancing with the Stars left the NFL free agent in tears – because the dance, which was set to Kinky Boots ballad “Not My Father’s Son”, was about his father who refuses to accept him because he’s gay.

Said Sam after the competition in an interview with Access Hollywood:

“I haven’t talked to my father since February 2014. I said this in a previous interview. Time will heal all wounds, and I know eventually I probably can forgive my father and speak to him…I know that deep down he loves me. I just need to be patient.”

'American Idol' Alum David Archuleta Apologizes for Tweets Perceived as Anti-Gay

'American Idol' Alum David Archuleta Apologizes for Tweets Perceived as Anti-Gay

Mormon American Idol alum David Archuleta apologized today after inspiring a firestorm of anger on social media over two tweets quoting President Boyd K. Packer, the President of the Quorum of the LDS Church.

2_archuletaSaid Archuleta in the tweets, since deleted: “Romantic love is incomplete. It is a prelude. Love is nourished by the coming of children, who spring from the fountain of love…Expressed between a man and woman in marriage. #PresPacker

Said Archuleta on Monday:

“I apologize if I have offended anyone with the quote I sent out Saturday. I guess I didn’t think about the line “expressed between a man and a woman in marriage” being stressed when the whole quote didn’t fit in just 1 tweet. I am sorry my intentions were misunderstood, as my main focus was that too often romance is looked at as the end-all when there is so much more. The bonds that can be there within a family and raising kids, as that is the most valuable thing I have: my family. I do hope however, that whoever may have been offended may know I respect everyone’s freedom to believe and live as they choose. I hope others can respect what I value most in my life as well. Again, I’m sorry and please forgive me if I offended you.”

Archuleta is a devoted member of the LDS Church who put his music career on hold in 2012 to become a Mormon missionary.
