Frankie J. Alvarez Knows You Don't Like His Character On 'Looking'
Frankie J. Alvarez knows you don’t like Agustin, the character he plays on Looking, HBO’s half-hour dramedy about a trio of San Francisco-based gay besties (Jonathan Groff, Murray Bartlett and Alvarez). While viewers focused their positive attention on the love triangle between Patrick (Groff), Kevin (Russell Tovey) and Richie (Raúl Castillo), much of their scorn was directed at Alvarez’s character, an often-misguided struggling artist. Alvarez understands why. During season one Agustin tricked his boyfriend Frank into having sex with a hooker, accused Patrick of slumming with Richie and generally caused everyone close to him no end of misery. It was almost cathartic to witness Frank give him his walking papers in the season one finale. But change might be in the air for Agustin. Season two (premiering on HBO January 11) will introduce an unexpected new love interest — a bear named Eddie (played by Mean Girl‘s Daniel Franzese) — who will presumably call him out on his sometimes aberrant behavior. Alvarez chatted with Queerty about why viewers are challenged by his character, shopping at sex stores with his costars and how the series will address HIV prevention.

Graham Norton Believes It’s Easier To Find Love If You’re Straight

Graham Norton Believes It’s Easier To Find Love If You’re Straight

p_graham-norton_1734883cI have a theory. I think there’s something about having a male partner that makes it more difficult. This will sound sexist but that doesn’t mean it’s any less true. If I were a straight man, my female partner would have a role in the eyes of society. She would be the mother of my children, my hostess, the person on my arm at red carpet events. She would have a defined function. But that’s not the case if your partner is male. Every man – no matter how young or fey – has something of the alpha in him. So all the things they thought they’d enjoy about going out with me become loathsome in the end because they haven’t earned it for themselves. Increasingly, that puts a strain on the relationship.”

Ellen DeGeneres Secretly Films Portia De Rossi Doing A Jane Fonda Workout Video

Ellen DeGeneres Secretly Films Portia De Rossi Doing A Jane Fonda Workout Video
Guests on her talk show aren’t the only ones who fall victim to Ellen DeGeneres’ pranks. Recently, DeGeneres tricked her own wife, actress Portia de Rossi, by secretly filming her as she followed along with Jane Fonda’s exercise video.

Of course, DeGeneres couldn’t keep the hilarious video to herself. When Fonda stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in December, the talk show host explained to the legendary actress how she stealthily captured the footage on a Saturday afternoon at home:

“Portia’s sitting doing a jigsaw puzzle, and I said, ‘I’m gonna pop [the Jane Fonda workout video] in, I wanna see this because I want to be able to talk about it. So she got up from the jigsaw puzzle she was doing, and I took the phone out, and started recording her.”

And now we’re getting a workout from laughing so hard.

For more with Portia, see below:

.@PortiadeRossi said I could watch her do her @JaneFonda workout. She didn’t say anything about filming & tweeting it t.co/9d30nps3pN

Madhu Kinnar Elected India's First Transgender Mayor

Madhu Kinnar Elected India's First Transgender Mayor

Screen Shot 2015-01-04 at 3.54.00 PMTransgender Independent-Mayoral Candidate Madhu Kinnar has won the mayoral election of Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh Municipal Corporation by 4,537 votes against Bharatiya Janata Party member Mahaveer Guruji reports NDTV. Kinnar, a 35-year-old trans woman belonging to the Dalit community, is the first transgender person to elected as mayor of an Indian city.

Kinnar issued a statement regarding her historic win:

“People have shown faith in me. I consider this win as love and blessings of people for me. I’ll put in my best efforts to accomplish their dreams.”

“I only spent Rs. 60,000-70,000 from my earnings during my campaign. It was the public support that encouraged me to enter the poll fray for the first time and because of their support only, I emerged as the winner.”

Kinnar, whose birth name is Naresh Chauhan, studied up to eighth standard and spent most of her life in different works including collecting money from dancing and singing on trains in her youth.

The Advocate adds:

However, not everyone is celebrating Kinnar’s history-making win. “There was no Modi wave in Raigarh this time. People of Raigarh were fed up with the corruption of BJP, hence they voted for Madhu. It is not Madhu Kinnar’s victory, but it’s a loss of BJP,” Raigarh district Congress (urban) president Narendra Negi said.

Nevertheless, Kinnar’s opposition will not contest the outcome. “We accept the decision of people and we will review it,” said BJP district president Rajesh Sharma.

Last April, the Indian Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling recognizing transgender people as a third gender.
