Catholic University Cancels Screening Of “Milk” For Fear Of Appearing To Support LGBT Awareness Month
A Catholic university in Washington with close ties to the Vatican, aptly named Catholic University, has pressured students to postpone a screening of the Oscar-winning 2008 film Milk over concerns that the event promoted gay lifestyles.
The event flyer, seen right, advertises the screening as “kicking off LGBT awareness month with the CUA College Democrats,” with special guest Dr. John White, author of such scintillating books as Eros Defiled: The Christian and Sexual Sin. It features a rainbow flag, and also implies there will be cookies, which is more than enough reason to show up anywhere in our opinion.
University spokesperson Victor Nakas said:
“For university administrators, it called into question whether the event had changed in nature from one of education to one of advocacy. Given the confusion caused by the advertising, the Office of the Dean of Students contacted the College Democrats to postpone the event.”
Jasckson Tovar, a 19-year-old sophomore who is active in the College Democrats, is quoted saying:
“I’m still confused and still disappointed in my university that an event like this cannot go on for the reason that it says ‘LGBT awareness month.”
We’re guessing it has everything to do with the rainbow flag. Gay tolerance/awareness? Permissible. But gay pride?! What would The Pope think?
“Who am I to judge?” is what he’d think. Maybe it’s CUA takes a few pointers from their main man in the robes.
Or maybe it was the cookies all along. Students shouldn’t be consuming all that sugar.

In the video, Llano chronicles his early fears about being “different,” his coming out to his parents (who are hugely supportive), and the reaction he’s received from other runners and athletes who have been inspired by his openness.

Philly Gay Bashing Victims Release Statement At 'Love Over Hate' Rally
The victims of an alleged horrific anti-gay attack in Philadelphia have spoken out for the first time since the attack through a statement read by organizers of a rally called “Love Over Hate.”
The rally, which drew an estimated 200 people, was reportedly an opportunity for individuals to lend support to the victims, as well as offer lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender high school and middle school students an opportunity to talk about the bullying they face in school.
On September 11, two gay men were allegedly the victims of an anti-gay attack by a large group of “well-dressed” individuals. Online activists later successfully identified the alleged attackers through the use of multiple social media platforms and a photo the group had taken at a restaurant shortly before the attack. Three suspects, Kathryn Knott, whose father is a police chief, James Kerrigan and Philip Williams, are now slated to stand in a preliminary hearing for the attack on Dec. 16.
Here is the statement released by the couple as reported by The Intelligencer:
Everyone keeps saying that they are sorry this happened to us. But the truth is, we’re sorry. We feel sorry for our attackers — people who believed it was OK, cool, maybe even funny, to use two innocent individuals as their punching bags and not even have the decency to apologize. Words are powerful. A simple, I’m sorry, would’ve went a long way with us …
“You butchered my boyfriend’s beautiful face. You violated our rights. You jeopardized our health and safety in a city that we love and during a time where so much progress around human rights has been made. … We are also determined to do everything in our power to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else again.”
The men said they haven’t released their identity because the story is not about them, but everyone who lives in fear. They called for passage of a hate crime bill in Pennsylvania. “It stops here. It stops today. It stops now.

Dutch Artist Will Make Public Grindr Connections In Glass Box In Berlin
A 38-year-old Dutch artist is currently living in a glass box in a popular Berlin square as part of a 15-day public performance art piece called “Wanna Play”, during which he’ll spend 100% of his time trying to make nonsexual connections on Grindr.
Dries Verhoeven tells HuffPo that he “aims to explore the potential powers and dangers of a site like Grindr, putting his life on display in the process.”
According to the interview, Verhoeven will live inside a glass container for 15 days with five smartphones, only making connection with the outside world via Grindr. The conversations he has will be projected on a large black screen for all to see, though the men on Grindr will have their faces blurred for privacy.
Verhoeven says his work will “replace the hunt for sex with the search for friendship and intimacy,” and that instead of having sex with the men he meets on Grindr, he’ll invite them to his glass box to play chess, have breakfast, and “shave one another,” among other nonsexual things.
He tells HuffPo:
“Grindr brought me more sex than ever before, but the app was untouched by any form of intimacy, we maintained a silent agreement that we could enact our porno fantasies on one another. I felt like a superficial illustration of myself, a man that could fulfill many sexual fantasies, but who rarely went to the movies with a stranger. I hadn’t brought anyone home to the family for Christmas in years. Grindr kept me from dealing with my single life. A feeble surrogate, but good enough not to feel lonely.
My dystopia was more about sex date apps coming to monopolize the daily lives of gay men. That our search for a deeper form of contact could only take place through this medium, like a darkroom in which men weren’t looking for sex, but were veiling their desire for love. I think something has gone wrong when gays trust each other enough to admit their desire to have a fist up their butts, but can no longer dare to invite one another to dinner.”
