What’s Up With Grindr?
You’ve probably heard by now about the exciting changes happening here at Grindr, the world’s largest gay social network. Beijing Kunlun, one of the world’s largest tech and gaming companies, recently announced it will be acquiring full ownership of Grindr. (Beijing Kunlun acquired a majority interest in Grindr back in 2016.) This significant investment is a strong vote of confidence in the community we have built. We have a lot to celebrate, but we also know that this sale raises some important questions.
We want to keep it real with you (and we don’t want anyone spreading crazy conspiracy theories), so here’s what you need to know:
1. Everybody wins from this.
Really. Through this acquisition, we will continue to expand the Grindr user experience, develop new features, make lots of exciting new content, continue to push for equality and much more. You can handle that, right?
2. We’re not going anywhere.
All Grindr users will continue to have the same access to the app as before, and there will be no changes to service for free or Xtra users. The same Terms of Service apply today just as they did yesterday. What you see is what you’ll continue to get.
3. Our fearless leader is still steering the ship.
Joel Simkhai is staying in his role as CEO as he leads the brand into this new chapter.
4. Your privacy remains paramount.

5. The Chinese government will not have access to your account.
Beijing Kunlun is not owned by the Chinese government. This sale doesn’t change how Grindr safeguards our user data.
