The GLAAD Wrap: 'Supergirl' celebrates Valentine's Day, 'Queer Eye' returns, Adam Lambert Tours With Queen

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) The Athena Film Festival, running February 9-12 in New York City, has announced their lineup and are offering a 30% off flash sale on tickets for GLAAD members this weekend. 2) Supergirl has returned this week, and the show has just announced more exciting news. They are developing a Valentine’s Day-themed episode centered on Maggie and Alex. The episode is set to feature Alex is who excited about her first Valentine’s Day with a girlfriend, while Maggie is not as enthusiastic about the day. The episode will air February 14th.

3) Netflix has announced an eight-episode revival of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. The show originally ran on Bravo from 2003-2007. There will be a new “Fab 5,” and the series will focus specifically on Red states. In other TV news, Freeform has ordered additional episodes of the returning comedy Young & Hungry.

4) Out actor Jussie Smollet (Empire) and Issa Rae (Insecure) are executive producers on the new web series Giants. The series – which premiered this week, and will stretch over six 20-minute episodes – will “explore themes of mental health, sexuality, police brutality” and other timely issues.

5) The UK’s first LGBTQ-centric channel will begin broadcasting in February. The channel, Latest LGBT+ TV, will be available in the Greater Brighton area, with content also available globally online. Sophie Cook will be the face of the channel; she leads a news program in Europe, and is the first transgender person to do so.

6) Adam Lambert and Queen have just announced a new exciting summer tour. This tour is expected to hit 24 cities in North America, including Los Angeles and New York. The tour kicks off in Phoenix in June and runs till August, with the last stop in Houston. Tickets go on sale February 3.

7) Dustin Lance Black is releasing a memoir titled, Mama’s Boy: The Story of Two Americas. He will explain his relationship with his mother, who is from the South and religious, and how his upbringing shaped his LGBTQ advocacy work. There is no release date yet announced. Black’s next upcoming project is the ABC miniseries When We Rise, premiering February 27, which looks at the history of the LGBTQ movement through the lives of three prominent advocates.

8) The Devil Wears Prada is coming to Broadway and Paul Rudnick and Elton John have been hired to write the musical. Originally based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, the novel became infamous with the 2006 film starring Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Meryl Streep. Elton John’s other popular musical work included The Lion King, Billy Elliot, and Aida. Rudnick is known for Sister Act and I Hate Hamlet. In other adaptation news, the upcoming film The Chocolate Money has hired out director Adam Shankman. The movie is based on a novel by Ashley Prentice Norton, and will star Kate Beckinsale.

9) The short film A Second Round has launched a new Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for their story about two lesbian women from different generations. Delivery girl Clementine meets Janet, a “vivacious older woman,” on her last delivery of her night shift. Janet is newly out, and convinces Clementine to hang around and teach her about the community. For more information, visit A Second Round’s Indiegogo page.
