The GLAAD Wrap: ‘Sense8’ finale special, Hannah Hart’s TV show, new music from Superfruit, and more!

Every week, the GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend!

1) The first trailer for Pitch Perfect 3 was released, and features the Barden Bellas struggling to settle into their post-graduation lives and careers, when they are presented with the opportunity to sing as the Bellas again. The film is directed by Trish Sie and stars a returning cast including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, and Ester Dean as out lesbian Cynthia Rose, as well as newcomer to the series and out actress Ruby Rose. Pitch Perfect 3 is due for release on December 22nd. Watch the trailer below!

2) Out dancer and choreographer Khasan Brailsford, who previously appeared on Season 1 of Logo’s “Fire Island”, stars in a new short titled Monster. According to producer Dennis Jauch, the short film is about “honoring yourself and not letting anyone tear you down”. Monster was produced by No Ceilings Entertainment. Watch it below:

3) An announcement posted on the official Sense8 twitter on Thursday revealed that after an outpouring of fan support following the cancellation of Sense8, the beloved and GLAAD Media Award-winning Netflix series will return for a two hour special to be released next year. The letter, penned by series co-creator Lana Wachowski, bids fans to “tell your cluster” and closes with an anticipatory, “Now let’s go find out what happens to Wolfgang.”

4) Out YouTuber Hannah Hart is taking a cross-country journey across the United States to try some regional favorites in her new Food Network Series I Hart Food. Hart will travel to cities including Asheville, Santa Fe, and Minneapolis to chat with local chefs and discover new cuisine over the course of six episodes. I Hart Food premieres Monday, August 14th at 10|9c on Food Network. In the meantime, watch Hart’s announcement video (which is also an episode of her famous series My Drunk Kitchen):

5) The YouTube docu-series Queer Ghost Hunters is returning for a second season! The show focuses on a team of ghost hunters who connect with LGBTQ+ ghosts in a variety of locations. The prison from The Shawshank Redemption is the focus of the second season and is a site where over 50 men were locked up in the early 1900s for violating anti-gay laws. The show at times parodies other ghost hunting shows, but it also focuses on connecting with queer history. Season 2 of Queer Ghost Hunters will premiere on their YouTube channel on Friday, June 30th. Watch the trailer here:

6) Superfruit, the YouTube and musical duo composed of out singers Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, have released part one of their first album, Future Friends, on Friday, June 30th. Hoying and Grassi are both members of the Grammy award-winning a cappella group Pentatonix and have been making videos as Superfruit since August 2013. Future Friends part one is available on streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Google Play and is available for purchase for $4.99. Part Two will be out September 15. 7) Queer musicians Torraine Futurum and Rubby recently collaborated to release the single “Drama”. It is the first single off of Torraine’s upcoming LP, which is is scheduled for release later this year and is the first project to follow her breakout album Colonial. Torraine and Rubby will sing their duet live this Sunday, July 2nd, at Torraine’s live debut at Baby’s All Right in New York. Listen to the single below:

8) Out actress Ellen Page recently performed an acoustic cover of Britney Spears’ song “Lucky” in a video posted on professional dancer Emma Portner’s YouTube channel. In the video, Portner performs an improvised, interpretive dance routine while Page plays the guitar and sings. Watch below:

9) Out performer Adam Lambert released a new single this Friday, June 30th, titled “Two Fux”. The singer released a teaser for the song on Twitter on June 22nd. “Two Fux” is Lambert’s first official release since his cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Think” that appeared on the Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie soundtrack. 10) The fourth annual Queer Comics Expo will take place next week, July 8-9, at the SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco. The event will celebrate queer culture and promote diverse LGBTQ representation in comics, animations, and other related media forms with more than 50 exhibitors and special guest cartoonist Irene Koh from The Legend of Korra. Tickets are available now!

11) Memory – A Short Film is a project currently in the crowdfunding stage that is centered on Alex, a man who gets stuck in an astral projection state and is forced to face his memories in order to escape. The series features a bisexual female protagonist, Anna, as well as a completely LGBTQ+ planet. The project is a science fiction short film that will be used to pitch the first season of a series, Time Traveling in Bits & Pieces, which is the brainchild of pansexual director and screenwriter Terra Budrevičiūtė.
