Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Amy Poehler will produce an Odd Couple-style gay romcom for ABC, which focuses on “two mismatched men from different cultures as they find love in a family-run restaurant in Miami.” Out actress Rosie O’Donnell has joined the cast of SMILF, a Showtime comedy based on Frankie Shaw’s award-winning short film about “a single, 20-something whose desires for relationships, sex, and a career collide with the realities of young, single motherhood.”

Rami Malek on Mercury Biopic2) Ideal Home, starring Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan as an extravagant yet unhappy gay couple, has been sold to several international buyers after being offered at American Film Market. Out filmmaker Bryan Singer will direct a biopic on Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, with Rami Malek in talks to play the lead role.

3) Blizzard’s first-person shooter game Overwatch will soon reveal “multiple heroes” are LGBT, according to lead writer Michael Chu. The company’s decision was apparently influenced by fan demand, and their storylines will be “more than just romantic.”

4) Sundance Institute has selected 18 creators for its inaugural Sundance Institute YouTube New Voices Lab – among the projects are According to My Mother, by Daniel K. Isaac and Cathy Y.Yan, about a gay Korean-American actor whose devout Christian mother moves in with him; and Lezzies by Gaby Dunn, about lesbian couple Alli and Harper, and the trouble that emerges when Alli’s brother moves back to town (as he’s also Harper’s ex!).

5) The team behind Couple-ish is crowdfunding on Indiegogo for season 2 production costs. The Streamy-nominated LGBTQ web series tells the story of Dee, a non-binary, bisexual, Canadian illustrator, who takes on Rachel, a queer British bartender with a student visa, as a roommate. After Rachel claims Dee as her common-law partner in order to avoid deportation, the two make a YouTube channel to convince the government their partnership is real. Find out more at the Couple-ish Indiegogo page and check out their video below.
