Every week, the GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend!

1) The highly anticipated film Battle of the Sexes opens on Friday. The film tells the story of the infamous tennis match between Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and Bobby Riggs (Steve Carrell), which was dubbed the titular Battle of the Sexes. In addition to telling the story of the game, the film dives into King’s fight for equal treatment and payment for women, as well as her delving into a relationship with a woman for the first time. Battle of the Sexes is playing in select cities this weekend, and will be released across the country on September 29^th. 2) Gaga: Five Foot Two, the intimate documentary exploring the life and work of bisexual pop star Lady Gaga, is out on Netflix today. The doc takes a backstage look at the singer’s life over the last year, the release of her album Joanne, performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show, as well as a deeper look into her personal life, which includes the health problems she struggled with, and her breakup with fiancé Taylor Kinney. Gaga: Five Foot Two is now streaming on Netflix.  

3) A trailer has been released for the upcoming documentary Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives. The film follows music executive Clive Davis – who came out as bisexual in his 2013 memoir – and his stunning musical career as he worked with iconic artists such as Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith. The film will be released in limited theaters on September 27^th, and then will be available exclusively on Apple Music on October 3^rd.

4) A trailer and poster have come out for the Finnish biopic Tom of Finland, which tells the story of Touko Laaksonen, a gay artist who became legendary for his drawings. The film tells the story of Laaksonen as he drew gay erotic figures, and eventually left Finland for California, going on to become a public figure and recognized for his art. His drawings have been credited for changing the way pop culture and art view the male form. Tom of Finland has been chosen as Finland’s Oscar submission this year, and will open in New York on October 13^th and LA on October 20^th. You can watch the trailer below.

5) NewFest, New York’s LGBT Film Festival, has announced its full line up for its 2017 festival, taking place October 19^th-24^th. The lineup includes the drama After Louie, starring Alan Cumming as an activist who lost many loved ones to the HIV and AIDS epidemic; Becks, a musical romance starring Lena Hall as a singer-songwriter who returns to her hometown and begins an affair with a housewife; the acclaimed British drama God’s Own Country; and many more films throughout the festival. 6) A trailer has been released for BBC’s acclaimed miniseries Queers. The series of short films responds to the 50^th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act, which partially decriminalized sexual acts between men in the UK. Directed by out actor and filmmaker Mark Gatiss, the series of monologues and films will explore the history of being gay in the UK, and the struggles and victories that came along with it. The series will air all day on October 11^th, and then be available to watch on BBC America’s website starting on October 12^th. You can watch the trailer below!

7) Fox has started development on three projects from out producer Lee Daniels. Victory, a drama about competitive gospel choirs, has received a put pilot commitment; the soap East of Hope, about two divided families in a working class town, has received a script commitment; and a comedy from Daniels and Modern Family EP Vali Chandrasekaran that focuses on three different families in Minnesota, has been given a put pilot commitment. Out producer Greg Berlanti also has projects in development, with two dramas at the CW. 

8) In more television news, out actor Russell Tovey has been cast in an Arrow arc, as gay super hero The Ray. In addition to appearing in Arrow, The Ray will be front and center of a new animated CW Seed how, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, where he will be voiced by Tovey as well. Netflix animated comedy Bojack Horseman, whose fourth season featured a major character coming out as asexual, has been renewed for a fifth season. In more streaming news, ahead of next week’s premiere of the revival, every episode of Will & Grace is now available to stream on Hulu.

9) Out pop singer Sam Smith has released a video for his new single “Too Good at Goodbyes,” which will appear on his long anticipated sophomore album. The video features people sharing intimate and tender moments, including several LGBTQ couples. “Too Good at Goodbyes” is available to stream and purchase wherever music is sold, and you can watch the emotional video below!

10) Sia has released a video for her new song “Rainbow,” written for the soundtrack of the upcoming My Little Pony movie. The video features clips from the film as well as dancing from Sia video regular Maddie Ziegler dancing in the rain, with the titular rainbow shining over her. In other music news, out bisexual rapper Taylor Bennett is featured on the newest track from Krewella, the Chicago based electronic music duo. Their song “New World,” is available to stream and purchase wherever music is sold.

11) The second annual “Shout & Shine: A Celebration of Diversity in Bluegrass” festival takes place in Raleigh, North Carolina this month. The festival will be help on September 26^th, at the Pour House, and will feature a range of musicians from all backgrounds, including Sam Gleaves, an out gay musician. The festival aims to promote the music of LGBTQ folks and people of color and was created in direct response to the harmful HB2 bill in North Carolina. More information is available here, and it’s definitely worth checking out for those in the NC area!

12) The Resilience Anthology is a forthcoming text fully authored by trans women and non-binary authors. The collection includes work from over 30 authors who explore different kinds of identity, including those of race, class, ability, and gender identity. The anthology includes short stories, essays and poems, by these authors. The people behind the book are currently raising funds for a widely distributed print publication.
