Must-See LGBTQ TV: ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ and ‘Queen Sugar’ finales, and documentary ‘Bean’

This Sunday, the mid-season finale of Star Trek: Discovery will be released on CBS All Access. The episode “Into the Forest I Go” promises big twists to leave viewers on edge until Discovery returns in January 2018. In this first half of the first season, Discovery has already made Star Trek history by including an openly gay couple in the core cast, played by out actors Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz. Star Trek: Discovery: Sunday on CBS All Access.

The season two finale of OWN’s acclaimed Queen Sugar airs this Wednesday, with a special 90 minute episode. In the finale, Charley’s shocking plan to save her business puts her relationship with Remy in jeopardy; Hollywood proposes to Violet; Nova and Remy share an unexpected moment; and Ralph Angel decides if he can forgive Darla. The show is notable for centering women of color on and behind the camera, including queer women of color. Queen Sugar: Wednesday at 9pm on OWN.

Documentary Bean from Fuse TV airs this Saturday, telling the inspirational story that swept the internet. Within weeks of her first Tinder date, Lori learns that she’s a kidney donor match for her new girlfriend, Alana, who has been on the transplant list for years. Bean chronicles the couple’s emotional medical journey as they begin an organ donation process that tests the true limits of love and sacrifice. Bean: Saturday at 10am and 10pm on Fuse.
