This Sunday, MTV will air their 2017 Video Music awards. This is the first year that MTV made all the categories for the VMAs non-gendered, and have changed the name of the iconic trophy from Moon Man to Moon Person. Nominees for videos from LGBTQ artists include rapper Young M.A. in Best New Artist, Fifth Harmony in Best Pop and Best Choreography, Sia in Best Choreography, Halsey in Best Cinematography, and Miley Cyrus for Best Pop. Don’t forget to tune in for the pre-show to see GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis walking the red carpet alongside transgender service members Sterling James Crutcher, Logan Ireland, Jennifer Peace, and Akira Wyatt, and trans veterans Laila Ireland and Brynn Tannehill. SPARTA, an LGBTQ service members and veterans group, and LGBTQ philanthropist and fashion designer August Getty will also be walking. Tuesday’s episode of Freeform’s The Bold Type “Before Tequila Sunrise” features a big moment in the relationship between fan favorites Kat (Aisha Dee) and Adena (Nikohl Boosheri) when Kat makes an impulsive decision after learning that Adena is being forced to leave New York. Out queer Muslim activist Blair Imani wrote a piece for GLAAD about what this storyline means for queer Muslim women and her own personal journey.
