Must-See LGBTQ TV: Catch the SAG Awards and the season premieres of ‘One Day at a Time’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek’

The 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards airs this Sunday, honoring excellence in performances in film and television. The ceremony is hosted by Kristen Bell and airs live on both TNT and TBS. This year’s LGBTQ nominees include Lily Tomlin and Sean Hayes, while performers and ensembles from LGBTQ-inclusive film and television such as Call Me By Your Name, The Shape of Water, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Orange is the New Black also received nominations. The fourth season of Canadian comedy Schitt’s Creek premieres this Wednesday on Pop TV. The show is co-created by comedian and actor Eugene Levy with his son, out comedian Dan Levy. In this family sitcom, Dan plays the role of David, the pansexual son of the Rose family. Season four includes the continuation of his relationship with his boyfriend Patrick, and the decision to make it official. Schitt’s Creek: Wednesday, 8pm on Pop TV.

Netflix’s critically acclaimed comedy One Day at a Time returns for its second season on Friday. A reboot of the show of the same title from the 70s, One Day at a Time follows the Cuban-American Alvarez family, and presents their daily lives and struggles with heart and humor. Last season saw the coming out of teenage daughter Elena, and the second season promises to continue her story, as she starts a club for LGBTQ students at her school. One Day at a Time: Friday, on Netflix.
