Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a block of flats in Manchester city centre.

Twelve fire engines are tackling the blaze at the apartment block on Joiner Street in the Northern Quarter, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.
People in the area are being advised to keep doors and windows shut.

We’re currently tackling a fire on the 9th floor of a 12 storey building on Joiner Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Please avoid the area if possible and keep windows and doors shut if you live nearby.

Firefighters said they were tackling the blaze on the 9th floor of the 12 storey building.
One person has been taken to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.
Roads around the area have been sealed off by police and a number of buses have been diverted.
