Don Lemon talks LGBTQ representation while accepting GLAAD’s Davidson/Valentini Award

GLAAD

On Saturday, September 9, GLAAD honored Don Lemon at the 2017 GLAAD Gala San Francisco. Lemon received the Davidson/Valentini Award, which is presented to an LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ community.

Check out his acceptance speech here:

The GLAAD Gala San Francisco celebrates and features storytellers who accelerate acceptance for the LGBTQ community.

In his remarks, Don Lemon praised out journalists including Anderson Cooper, Robin Roberts, Rachel Maddow, Gio Benitez, and Thomas Roberts.

Lemon went on to condemn white supremacy saying: “We have to point out outright bigotry and racism – and as a man of color, I certainly know it when I see it, I can smell it coming- and to make sure that some uninformed people don’t get confused that there are no fine or good Nazis or white supremacists anywhere and it’s not about both sides.”

The award was presented to Lemon by CNN commentator and president of Dream Corps, Van Jones.

Congrats to @donlemon on the honor and thank you @VanJones68 for helping us honor him! #ThisIsMyStory pic.twitter.com/L3NyiIRwRO
