Celebrate how you helped GLAAD win in the resistance against the Trump Administration this July 4

Independence Day is about celebrating the birthday of the United States of America, and the freedoms we have earned as a country. This includes our fight to defend our nation’s values both here at home and abroad, and it all started when some brave Americans chose to become visible and fight for the acceptance and equality they believed their community deserved.

Like the ancestors of our nation, the history of the LGBTQ community is one of visibility, strength, and persistence. Regardless of who we are, where we come from, who we love, or how we identify, LGBTQ Americans have fought back against the hateful agenda of the Trump Administration that continues to systematically erase our hard-fought acceptance.

GLAAD has sought to hold President Trump accountable, expose anti-LGBTQ policies, and issue a call for every marginalized community to stand together and resist the attacks made by the most anti-LGBTQ administration in recent memory.

Our resistance is working, but we must stay vigilant.

Take a look at the top six ways you have helped GLAAD fight back against President Trump and his anti-LGBTQ activist administration. But we must keep fighting! Join GLAAD as we continue to push back against the anti-LGBTQ activists and the Trump Administration, and help us fight for continued visibility and accelerate LGBTQ acceptance.

  1. GLAAD launched the Trump Accountability Project a resource for Americans and the media that depicts the Trump Administration as the most anti-LGBTQ administration in recent history, undermining Trump’s false message of supporting LGBTQ Americans during his presidential campaign.
  2. GLAAD leaked a draft copy of the Trump Administration’s original anti-LGBTQ “religious exemptions” executive order to ABC News, sparking a media backlash that ultimately caused the administration to retract the draft EO.
  3. After hearing reports of attacks on LGBTQ men and possible concentration camps created in Russian-controlled Chechnya, GLAAD executed a social media campaign calling on United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, to condemn these horrific reports of anti-LGBTQ violence. And because of your tweets, she did.
  4. Mark Green was forced to withdraw his Secretary of the Army nomination after GLAAD unearthed unedited and unaltered audio of Green describing transgender Americans an “evil” that must be “crushed.”
  5. GLAAD hit back against the Trump Administration’s attempt to erase LGBTQ seniors from the Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) medical surveys, resulting in the agency restoring questions on sexual orientation. GLAAD will continue to advocate for HHS to restore survey questions of transgender seniors that are still slated for deletion.
  6. After the White House chose to celebrate National Donut Day over recognizing June as National LGBTQ Pride Month, GLAAD has repeatedly called out President Trump for prioritizing his reckless, anti-LGBTQ agenda ahead of celebrating the hard-fought wins for LGBTQ acceptance.

Together we resist. Together we persist. Together we win.
