Wir starten also generalüberholt ins neue Jahr.

Benjamin Reuter

How To Avoid Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review Spoilers On The Internet

How To Avoid Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review Spoilers On The Internet
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now just days away from its UK release.

As such the time has come to pull up the drawbridge, batten down the hatches and generally lock yourself away in the nearest nuclear bunker you can find.

If for some absurd reason you can’t do any of those things then you are now officially at risk of spoilers because human beings other than you have already seen the film and are getting very excited about it on Twitter.

Now if you, like us, would like to ride the emotional rollercoaster of the Last Jedi with your mind clear and free of spoilers then here are three simple steps you can take.

Twitter has a rather handy feature built-in that allows you to mute certain keywords, emojis and hashtags from your timeline.

It should be noted that #TheLastJedi already has its own official hashtag so we would absolutely start there.

From there here are just a few suggestions:

Sadly Facebook doesn’t have an equivalent mute function, at least not an official one.

If you’d like to make sure your Facebook friends aren’t about to ruin the film event of the year then we would recommend you download something like Social Fixer.

This rather handy plugin for Chrome, Safari and Firefox.

You can not only mute certain keywords, people you follow and even certain pages but you can actually totally customise the way Facebook shows you information on the Newsfeed.

This is particularly handy if you’re worried about videos or photos catching you out as well.

3. Mute all the words, ever

Finally, drastic times call for drastic measures.

Install the Unspoiler plugin for Chrome or Safari. This all-encompassing add-on to your favourite browser is like a giant oppressive blanket that will wrap you up and protect you from the outside world and its truths that you don’t want to hear.

Unspoiler works across the entire internet which means that hopefully it’ll fill in any of the gaps you unintentionally left on Twitter or Facebook.

Some might call this overkill, but then these people have either never seen Star Wars or they have a very low midichlorian count.

That’s all the wisdom we have to impart. Go forth, stay safe and make sure you’ve booked your tickets as soon as possible.

Equality Watchdog To Launch Grenfell Tower Probe Amid Public Inquiry Worries

Equality Watchdog To Launch Grenfell Tower Probe Amid Public Inquiry Worries
Britain’s official equality watchdog is to launch its own review of the Grenfell Tower fire amid misgivings about the scope of a forthcoming public inquiry.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) said it intended to interview survivors and those affected by the disaster to assess whether authorities failed in their human rights obligations.

Whether the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC), which owned the west London block, fell short in its duty to protect life, prevent inhuman treatment and provide safe housing will likely be a key focus of the work.

Seventy-one people died when a fire tore through the building on June 14, its spread thought to have been aided by flammable material installed during a recent refurbishment.

EHRC chairman David Isaac suggested in an interview with the Observer that he was concerned the judge-led probe ordered by the Government “currently overlooked” human rights.

Sir Martin Moore-Bick, the retired Court of Appeal judge leading the process, was criticised for omitting issues such as social housing policy from his terms of reference.

The EHRC was rejected in its application to be a core participant in the inquiry, but is expected to conclude its work by April 2018 and publish a summary of its findings complete with recommendations.

This could mean its investigation will surface ahead of Sir Martin’s interim report, which officials are concerned might not be ready by the spring, as was initially hoped.

But Isaac denied that the watchdog’s work was intended to be adversarial, the Press Association reported.

He told the newspaper: “It’s to be complementary to it. We will be calling on experts, particularly legal experts, looking at the international human rights obligations, asking for submissions from a whole variety of stakeholders.

“It’s not a parallel inquiry. It’s to look at what we think is important and what’s missing from the official inquiry, which is the human rights and equalities perspective.”

The move is still likely to reignite debate about the troubled inquiry, which has been beset by criticism since its launch in June.

Most recently, a petition demanding the probe be overhauled was issued by families of around 50 victims and Grenfell United, the body set up to represent survivors.

9 Hilariously Depressing Analogies For Theresa May’s Brexit Deal

9 Hilariously Depressing Analogies For Theresa May’s Brexit Deal
You may well have noticed that something rather big happened today – that’s right, a YouTube prankster cemented his head inside a microwave.

There was also another important story that may have just edged it in the “most read” stakes – but only just.

Tough competition for the top story on the BBC News website#BrexitDeal pic.twitter.com/jSyLpLyOM4
on a deal which allows the Brexit talks to move on to trade negotiations.
So we are to stay aligned to both single market and custom union rules but have no say in future rule changes nor representation in the European Parliament. So surely it would make sense just to stay in both? #BrexitDeal

Remarkably, the deal appears to have united both Leavers and Remainers albeit in a unified chorus of displeasure at the PM’s negotiation skills.
Scanning Twitter reaction to the #brexitdeal – although neither Leavers nor Remainers are happy with it – it’s seems to be the Leavers who are the most unhappy with it.

Farage campaigned for Britain to no longer be under EU regulation and achieved not only to still be under those regulations but removed our ability to influence them and made us pay more for the privilege. And put himself out of a job. Truly a political giant. #BrexitDeal pic.twitter.com/6FcORuvvYn

Regardless, one bright spot of the day was the flood of imaginative analogies for the day’s events.
That time that drunk idiot climbed out of the club window, wearing Union Jack shorts, and then queued for two years, argued with the doormen and then paid to get back in – just to sit almost where he was before. Then vomited on his shoes. #BrexitDeal

A deal has been reached between the European Union and the United Kingdom on phase one of the Brexit talks.
The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker revealed early on Friday morning that “sufficient progress” has now been made.
This opens the way for negotiations on the future trade relationship between the UK and EU to begin.
Theresa May said the deal makes sure there will be “no hard border” between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The prime minister said the rights of EU citizens living in the UK and British citizens living in the EU will be protected
A financial settlement will be paid by the UK to the EU which is “fair to the British taxpayer”, May said.
DUP leader Arlene Foster said she was now satisfied there would now be “no red line down the Irish Sea” separating Northern Ireland from Great Britain.
May will personally guarantee to the people of Ulster six promises, including leaving the EU customs union and single market and upholding the Good Friday Agreement peace deal
