Philly Archbishop: Sexually Active Gays, Unwed Couples, Divorced People Can’t Take Communion

charles chaput

Charles J. Chaput, the Archbishop of Philadelphia, has banned sexually active gay people, as well as co-habitating unmarried couples and divorced couples from receiving communion in his archdiocese.

Chaput issued the guidelines in reference to a document written by Pope Francis called Amoris Laetitia, “the joy of love.”

Philly.com reports:

His six-page instruction, which appears on the archdiocesan website, may be the first of its kind issued by the bishop of any American diocese in response to Amoris Laetitia, Latin for “the joy of love.”

Acknowledging that it is a “hard teaching,” Chaput goes on to say that Catholics in same-sex partnerships, those remarried without a church annulment, and cohabitating persons may not serve on parish councils, instruct the faithful, serve as lectors, or dispense Communion.

Allowing persons in such “irregular” relationships, “no matter how sincere,” to hold positions of responsibility would “offer a serious counter-witness to Catholic belief, which can only produce moral confusion in the community,” according to Chaput.

The Guardian adds:

In its examination of homosexuality, the Philadelphia guidelines state that two people in an “active, public same-sex relationship, no matter how sincere, offer a serious counter-witness to Catholic belief, which can only produce moral confusion in the community.

“Those with predominant same-sex attractions are therefore called to struggle to live chastely for the kingdom of God. In this endeavor they have need of support, friendship and understanding if they fail,” the rules state.

But the greatest attention in the guidelines is focused on couples who are divorced and civilly remarried who have not obtained an annulment of their first marriage.

Chaput’s guidelines come in spite of a passage from Amoris Laetitia in which the Pontiff writes, “it can no longer simply be said that all those in any ‘irregular’ situation are living in a state of mortal sin and are deprived of sanctifying grace.”

Chaput has been a vocal opponent of gay marriage and has urged his flock to attend a rally organized by the virulently anti-LGBT group, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). Chaput was a co-sponsor of that rally for “traditional marriage.”

Chaput’s guidelines were issues mere days after Pope Francis agreed that the Catholic Church should apologize to gay people and seek forgiveness for fanning the flames of homophobia.

Sports writer Cyd Zeigler releases new book on LGBT athletes

Sports writer Cyd Zeigler releases new book on LGBT athletes

“Fair Play” by Cyd Zeigler

Cyd Zeigler, a renowned sports writer and GLAAD Media Award nominated journalist, began writing about LGBT sports issues in 1999. He has continued  writing on the topic of LGBTQ acceptance in sports, including, most recently, in his newest publication, Fair Play: How LGBT Athletes Are Claiming Their Rightful Place in Sports

Fair Play, published in conjunction with Akashic Books, tells the story of how sports are transforming for LGBTQ athletes, and specifically focuses on the time period following the turn of the 21st century. Zeigler’s book covers treatment of LGBTQ athletes, touching on bullying and hazing that has surrounded, and continues to surround, LGBTQ athletes, specifically in high school and college, while weaving in stories of LGBT athletes and allies such as Michael Irvin, Fallon Fox, and Michael Sam, among others.

As explained by Publishers Weekly, while LGBTQ athletes have steadily become more accepted in sports, Fair Play is an important and accessible read that provides support and encouragement for LGBTQ acceptance in sports, specifically for younger athletes, while debunking myths about LGBTQ athletes. Fair Play aims to break down the culture of fear that surrounds LGBTQ athletes coming out in the sports community.

Fair Play has received positive reviews as an releveant publication that encompasses a brief history of LGBTQ athletes in sports, inspiring stories of athletes coming out, and an urgency to continue to progress towards full acceptance of LGBTQ athletes in sports.

Take a look at what is being said about Fair Play:

The Washington Blade writes, ”It’s hard not to be fascinated with what’s definitely not your usual game coverage. Zeigler is a nationally known sports writer and this book is filled with insider peeks, big-name examples, astonishing incidents and up-and-comer encouragement.”

The Kirkus Reviews points out the positive impact Fair Play is making on the LGBTQ athletes of tomorrow: “Outsports.com founder Zeigler gives an account of the great strides LGBTQ athletes have made in the sports world over the last 15 years…Lively and provocative, the book not only offers a much-needed perspective on what until recently has been one of the last bastions of heterosexism. It is also significant for its conscious consideration of how current developments will impact LGBTQ athletes of tomorrow. An informative, necessary work.”

Lastly, in response to Zeigler’s book, Publishers Weekly shares:

“This important and accessible book about the evolving treatment of LGBTQ athletes in organized sports should be required reading for anyone involved in the playing, coaching, and administration of organized sports. Zeigler, an expert in LGBTQ athletics and cofounder of the online magazine Outsports, revisits key moments that have shaped sports participation for openly LGBTQ athletes….The author debunks the myth that having a nonstraight athlete on a team’s roster is a ‘distraction’ and shares positive stories of younger athletes at high school and college levels who have come out to coaches, teammates, and family members. Zeigler argues that the dominant emotion holding back LGBTQ athletes is fear, reminding them and everyone else that courage is contagious.”

This Charming Republican Senate Candidate Loves Trump And Using Gay Slurs

Ted-Busiek

Hey, this Ted Busiek guy sounds fun! He’s not afraid to tell it like it is, and apparently “like it is” is calling anyone who challenges Donald Trump a “self-righteous faggot.”

Busiek was referring to Trump’s performance in a 1993 clip, where the businessman argued on-camera that Native Americans shouldn’t be allowed to run their own tribe’s affairs because “they don’t look like Indians to me.”

Good lord. Evidently, that 23-year-old clip met with Ted’s approval, and he wrote, “DONALD TRUMP. Putting self-righteous faggots in their place since 1993. How I love this fellow.”

Ted later walked back the comment, ever so slightly. He told reporters that he didn’t mean the word “faggot” in a “hateful sense,” just that it’s another word for someone who’s “obnoxious” and “kind of being a jerk.”

He added, “You can insult somebody without being hateful,” and said that gay couples shouldn’t be allowed to get married or adopt children. He’s also called trans people “perverts.” Okay so what does he actually think hate is, if this isn’t it?

Trump hasn’t responded publicly to the kerfuffle. But the end result of the whole thing is that we are yet again talking about the guy, so on balance he probably considers this a PR victory.

These Gentlemen Dress Up As Latex Dolls For Kinky Thrills. Let’s Get To Know Them.

It takes all kinds to make a world — including the kind that dress up as latex dolls to fulfill their kinky BDSM desires.

Welcome to the world of “female masking,” a shadowy underground movement in which members turn themselves into unblinkingly servile dolls.

The growing scene — currently believed to be several thousand strong — largely consists of mature men from America, the United Kingdom and, yes, Germany.

Apparently it’s been going on since the ’80s, and was helmed by an adventurous, experimental gentleman who helped style masks for Tim Burton’s Batman films.

According to VICE, the men recreate themselves from top to bottom by dressing up in silicone bodysuits, prosthetic breasts and opulent outfits.

The publication managed to find some guys in Amsterdam and Germany who agreed to transform themselves into their “feminine latex doll” alter egos in front of the camera.

The film includes the following soundbite: “You know there’s nothing going on in a doll’s head… It’s all full of air or straw.”

If that doesn’t grab you, we can’t do nothing for you.

Let’s get to know these guys, shall we?

Do You Hate the Sound of Your Recorded Voice? Here’s Why.

Do You Hate the Sound of Your Recorded Voice? Here’s Why.

mitch

Do you like the sound of your own voice?

If you are like most people, chances are you are not a big fan. That’s according to YouTube superstars Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown.

In their latest video, the Canadian couple, creator of the wildly popular YouTube channel AsapSCIENCE, invited a few people over for some vocal tests to try to find out why we hate our voices.

“People tend to strongly dislike their recorded voices because it sounds different than the voice in their head,” explained Brown. And that happens because of how sound travels to your ears.

The duo went into more scientific details as to how the human brain receives and processes sound, and also said that a 2013 study suggested that “even though you think your recorded voice sounds terrible, it might be more attractive than you think.”

ACLU, 70 Groups Demand House Cancel Hearing of Vile Anti-LGBT Bill 1 Month After Orlando

ACLU, 70 Groups Demand House Cancel Hearing of Vile Anti-LGBT Bill 1 Month After Orlando

First Amendment Defense Act

The ACLU and more than 70 national, state, and local groups sent a letter to Rep. Jason Chaffetz demanding that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform cancel a hearing on the hateful anti-LGBT First Amendment Defense Act, scheduled to take place exactly one month after the Orlando shooting.

The bill, introduced by the two bigots pictured above, Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho), left, and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). would make it legal to discriminate against LGBT people based on religious beliefs

RELATED: The ‘First Amendment Defense Act’ is the Vilest ‘Religious Freedom’ Bill of Our Time

Writes the ACLU:

“It’s outrageous that Congress would hold a hearing on legislation that would make it legal to discriminate against LGBT people with taxpayer dollars one month after the mass shooting that killed 49 people and injured 53 others at a gay club in Orlando,” said James Esseks, director of the ACLU’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender & HIV Project. “Congress should instead focus its efforts on protecting people against violence or discrimination, regardless of who they are or whom they love.”

The bill’s supporters argue that the singular intent of the bill is to prevent discrimination against “people and institutions that define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.” In practice, the ACLU said, the bill will permit sweeping taxpayer-funded discrimination. Based on a professed religious belief or even a legally ambiguous “moral conviction,” private organizations and certain federal contractors would be empowered to refuse a range of services to LGBT people, single mothers, and unmarried couples.

The letter:

07-06-16 Sign-On to Chairman Chaffetz Re Fada Hearing

The Human Rights Campaign explained the measure:

The legislation would prohibit any adverse action by the federal government against an individual or organization for discriminatory actions against legally married same-sex couples as long as they claim they are acting in accordance with their religious beliefs. “Adverse action” is broadly defined to include the denial or revocation of a federal tax status or deduction; denial of a federal grant, contract, loan, benefit or employment; or any other act of discrimination. The bill provides individuals and organizations the right to sue the federal government for monetary damages in federal court.

If passed, this legislation would create a breakdown of government services and runaway litigation.  It would permit a federal employee, for example, to refuse to process tax returns, visa applications or Social Security checks whenever a same-sex couple’s paperwork appears on his or her desk.  This legislation would also permit recipients of federal grants and contracts, including those for social services programs like homeless shelters and substance abuse treatment programs, to turn away LGBT people.  It allows any of these individuals or groups, or anyone else who believes they have been somehow required by the federal government to approve of married same-sex couples, to file a lawsuit and potentially receive damages from taxpayer money.

Last September, The New York Times editorial board attacked the bill, warning that it would “it would deliberately warp the bedrock principle of religious freedom under the Constitution.”

They added:

As critics of the bill quickly pointed out, the measure’s broad language — which also protects those who believe that “sexual relations are properly reserved to” heterosexual marriages alone — would permit discrimination against anyone who has sexual relations outside such a marriage. That would appear to include women who have children outside of marriage, a class generally protected by federal law.

This bizarre fixation on what grown-ups do in their bedrooms — which has long since been rejected by the Supreme Court and the vast majority of Americans — is bad enough. The bill makes matters worse by covering for-profit companies, which greatly multiplies the potential scope of discrimination against gays and lesbians.

The bill has broad right-wing support (171 co-sponsors in the House and 37 in the Senate — all Republicans but one, Representative Daniel Lipinski of Illinois, and has been endorsed by the Republican National Committee and presumptive nominee Donald Trump) and should serve as a warning that the fight to retain LGBT rights and protections is far from over and we must continue to be vigilant against efforts to take them away from us.
