Donald Trump To Join Marco Rubio at Anti-LGBT Event in Orlando on 2 Month Anniversary of Pulse

donald trump lgbt

Donald Trump will be joining Marco Rubio at an anti-LGBT event held by homophobic religious leaders in Orlando on the two month anniversary of the Pulse massacre.

The Christian Broadcasting Network first broke the news that Trump would join in on the hate-fest, dubbed “Rediscovering God in America”, happening Thursday August 12:

Trump will speak to [700 evangelical religious leaders] about his push to repeal the Johnson Amendment. The law, which has been in place for decades, has made it more difficult for pastors to speak out on political issues and candidates from the pulpit. We should also note that U.S. Senator and former presidential candidate Marco Rubio will also speak to pastors at the two day event.

Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Mike Huckabee and others have appeared at these private events before but this is Trump’s first appearance.

Right Wing Watch reports that the founder of the group behind the “Rediscovering God in America” event, David Lane, plans to grill Donald Trump on whether he supports “homosexual totalitarianism”:

Self-described “political operative” David Lane founded the American Renewal Project as a way to mobilize conservative Christian voters and inspire right-wing pastors to run for elected office. He told Jacobs that he intends to quiz Trump on how he plans to fight “homosexual totalitarianism” and the gay rights “militants.”

Lane, a vocal opponent of LGBT equality, has said that “homosexuals praying at the Inauguration” in 2012 would cause “car bombs in Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Des Moines, Iowa” as a sign of God’s judgment and that the “pagan onslaught” of the LGBT rights movement will lead to the destruction of America.

Lane told Bloomberg that Trump’s backing the Johnson Amendment is not enough to win his support. He wants Trump to show that he is decidedly anti-gay. Said Lane,

“…what about the religious liberty of Christian photographers, Christian bakers, Christian retreat centers, and pastors who believe same-sex intercourse and marriage is sin? These Christians were simply living out their deeply held convictions of their Christian faith when they politely refused to provide services for a same-sex wedding. Doesn’t the First Amendment give us all a right to our beliefs?…Homosexual totalitarianism is out of the closet, the militants are trying herd Christians there.”

News of Trump’s attendance come on the heels of his repeated claims that he is “pro-LGBTQ”, and a friend to “the gays.”

Rubio has defended his attendance of the event saying, “Leave it to the media and liberal activists to label a gathering of faith leaders as an anti-LGBT event. It is nothing of the sort. It is a celebration of faith.”

Pulse Nightclub Shooter’s Father Spotted in Crowd at Hillary Clinton Rally: WATCH

Pulse Nightclub Shooter’s Father Spotted in Crowd at Hillary Clinton Rally: WATCH

Hillary Clinton Seddique Mateen

Hillary Clinton held a rally in Kissimmee, Florida on Monday night and spoke about the Pulse nightclub massacre as Seddique Mateen, the father of shooter Omar Mateen, looked on. The Clinton campaign had no idea the shooter’s father was in attendance.

“I know how many people, families, loved ones, and friends are still grieving, and we will be with you as you rebuild your lives, as you rebuild hope for the future.” said Clinton. “Because we can’t ever let that kind of hatred and violence break the spirit, break the soul of any place in America.”

Mateen, whose son took the lives of 49 people on June 12 at the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, was spotted in the crowd standing behind Clinton wearing a red cap (see screencap above).

WPTV spoke to Mateen after the rally:

NewsChannel 5 asked Mateen what he was thinking about when Clinton spoke about the Orlando incident.

“We’ve been cooperating with the federal government, and that’s about it,” he said. “Thank you.”  Mateen didn’t want to answer any other questions, but just hours later, we ran into him by chance at a rest stop on the way back to West Palm Beach.  He wanted to do an interview and show us a sign he made for Clinton.

“Hillary Clinton is good for United States versus Donald Trump, who has no solutions,” he said.

We asked what went into his decision to go to the event right near Orlando, where the Pulse Nightclub shooting happened.

“I spoke a lot about that and wish that my son joined the Army and fought ISIS. That would be much better,” he said.

Watch:

The Clinton campaign said Mateen had not been invited:

Clinton campaign statement part I: “This rally was a 3,000-person, open-door event for the public. This individual wasn’t invited as a guest

— Tory Dunnan (@ToryDunnanTV) August 9, 2016

Part II: and the campaign was unaware of his attendance until after the event.

New Music: Haley Bonar, Dinosaur Jr., Russian Circles

New Music: Haley Bonar, Dinosaur Jr., Russian Circles

Haley Bonar

This week in New Music: Haley Bonar (above) brings focuses to her sound on indie rock/pop crossover Impossible DreamDinosaur Jr. continue to knock them out after 30 years and Russian Circles possibly cement their place as the kings of post rock.

Haley Bonar – Impossible Dream

Haley Bonar (2)To quote myself based on the two singles from this album a couple of weeks back, Haley Bonar makes “‘Love Is A Battlefield’” for disaffected indie kids.

Impossible Dream is a move in a stronger direction for Bonar following on from the success of 2014 album Last War.

Still only in her early 30s with seven albums under her belt, Bonar seems just a touch sick of the shite she has to put up with. “I was impossible when I was beautiful” she sings on “Kismet Kill” but her delivery is more Pink does indie than early PJ Harvey angst.

It’s one of those indie pop/rock albums that is so effortlessly good it’s over almost before it starts.

Dinosaur Jr – Give A Glimpse Of What You’re Not

Dinosaur JrFollowing many line-up changes over the years, the original trio J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph reformed in 2007. What could have been desperate middle age has in fact been a glorious return to form.

Give A Glimpse Of What You’re Not is the Massachusetts band’s fourth album in its current form. Given that the band only managed five years and three albums in its first incarnation, it makes sense that the reformation has lasted twice as long.

Rather than being chewed up and spat out over the intervening years, the lads still make inspired rock that does what the genre expects. You won’t find much in the way of political commentary or worldly concerns on Give A Glimpse Of What You’re Not but you will be treated to 47 minutes of old-school indie rock.

Russian Circles – Guidance

Russian CirclesThe best post-rock bands know that the swirling, pounding stop-start of the genre will not to a long career lead. Many acts have come and gone with brilliant post rock albums (see The Gothenburg Address) but without invention they fade from the scene.

Chicago-based Russian Circles have managed to ride high in the post-rock scene over five albums between 2006 and 2013. Album number six Guidance continues the band’s relatively stellar career by again injecting elements of krautrock, noise and a touch of death metal.

Post rock is at it’s best when it conveys on the listener an emotion that is perhaps not intended by the band. The effect is visceral and personal. In terms of meaning, on Guidance there is an intent. According to bassist Brian Cook, the album was inspired by photos of public executions in Asia.

While some of the songs on the album are almost not post-rock (see the likes of “Mota” which eschews the stop-start swirl of the genre’s ethic) possibly the best song on the album is the closer Lisboa, which sounds like an embodiment and distillation of everything about the genre.

Pietro Boselli Goes for an Olympic Medal in the Abs Competition – PHOTOS

Pietro Boselli Goes for an Olympic Medal in the Abs Competition – PHOTOS

pietro borselli

While the 2016 Olympics are underway in Rio de Janeiro, the world’s hottest math teacher / model Pietro Boselli is looking to medal in an event in which he is almost certainly the world champion: the abs competition.

Boselli has been known to bare his taut physique on Instagram from time to time and recently modeled Team Italy’s official line of Olympic gear for the Rio games. But while the world is heading to Rio, Boselli descended upon Los Angeles for a sun-drenched Southern California adventure that involved a lot of time at the beach and hardly any clothing (you’re welcome).

This isn’t the first time Boselli has shared the exploits of his travels. Earlier this year, Boselli journeyed to Australia where he similarly spent a lot of time sans shirt.

Check out Boselli’s latest exploits (which often channel the work of famed photographer Herb Ritts), below.

What color medal would you give Pietro Boselli’s abs?
