Tim Kaine Joins HRC Debate Watch Party in Orlando

Tim Kaine Joins HRC Debate Watch Party in Orlando

Tonight, Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine is joining HRC President Chad Griffin and Florida supporters for our debate watch party in Orlando. After paying tribute at Pulse nightclub, Kaine and Griffin — joined by Gabby Giffords and retired NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly — will speak to hundreds of pro-equality voters at HRC’s watch party.

Just two weeks ago, Senator Kaine keynoted HRC’s National Dinner in Washington, DC, where he spoke about how he and Hillary Clinton would fight for LGBTQ equality in the White House and rebuked Donald Trump’s attempts to pander to the LGBTQ community.

Through HRC’s #turnOUT 2016 campaign, HRC is working to mobilize and turn out LGBTQ and pro-equality voters in Florida and other battleground states across the country. In Florida, the LGBTQ community play a decisive role in the election. The LGBTQ adult voting bloc is more than half a million — or 560,000 — in the Sunshine State — and in 2012, President Obama won Florida by just over 70,000 votes.

A majority of Floridians support LGBTQ equality, according to polling released by the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute. A stunning 70 percent of Floridianssupport LGBTQ non-discrimination protections while 58 percent of Floridians said small-business owners should not be able to discriminate against LGBTQ people based on their religious beliefs.

Help HRC #turnOUT the vote this election season for pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot! Register to vote today and learn more about how you can get involved, visit hrc.org/VoteEquality.

Paid for by Human Rights Campaign PAC and authorized by Hillary for America’s committee.

About Limit(less)
Limit(less) is a photography project by Mikael Owunna (@owning-my-truth) documenting the fashion and style of LGBTQ African Immigrants (1st and 2nd generation) in diaspora. As LGBTQ Africans, we are constantly told that being LGBTQ is somehow “un-African,” and this rhetoric is a regular part of homophobic and transphobic discourse in African communities. This line of thinking, however, is patently false and exists an artifact of colonization of the African continent. Identities which would now be categorized as “LGBTQ” have always existed, and being LGBTQ does not make us “less” African.

Limit(less) explores how LGBTQ African immigrants navigate their identities and find ways to overcome the supposed “tension” between their LGBTQ and African identities through their fashion and style. The project seeks to visually deconstruct the colonial binary that has been set up between LGBTQ and African identities, which erases the lives and experiences of LGBTQ Africans. ‪#‎LimitlessAfricans‬

WATCH: Trailer For James Franco’s “King Cobra” Finally Here, And This Is One Wild Ride

WATCH: Trailer For James Franco’s “King Cobra” Finally Here, And This Is One Wild Ride

garrett-clayton-king-cobra

Since the project was announced nearly a year ago, there’s been a lot of talk about King Cobra, the murderous tale of lust, greed and crime set against a wholesome gay adult film backdrop.

And though we’ve seen images and a clip and even heard from the real life Brent Corrigan about how he’s portrayed, we’ve oddly still been waiting on a trailer.

Well the wait is over.

Hype can be a real killer when expectations are catapulted into the clouds above reality — and this film has seen nothing but hype — but we’ve got to say, the trailer makes the film look entirely watchable.

Check it out below:

The film tells the story of Cobra Video owner Bryan Kocis’ murder by two of his stars, Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes, in 2007. Naturally, James Franco is also involved, taking a producing and acting credit.

Both killers were sentenced to life in prison, and the gruesome details of the story inspired the book Cobra Killer: Gay Porn Murder.

According to the investigating coroner, Kocis was stabbed 28 times and his throat was cut, nearly decapitating him. His body was left in his house before it was set on fire. Officials had to use dental records to identify Kocis because his body was burned beyond recognition.

Kocis’ involvement and subsequent legal battle with a then-underage Brent Corrigan, aka Sean Lockhart, added an unhealthy dose of scandal to the already-insane story.
And now the whole sordid mess is coming to a theater near you! It’s kind of like Brokeback Mountain with few more twists and turns. Except not at all. It’s all fairly horrifying.

Slater has signed on to play Kocis, and Ringwald has been cast as Kocis’ sister.

King Cobra comes to theaters on October 21st.

CUTENESS OVERLOAD. When HRH Prince George met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (and denied the PM a high five).

SOCIAL MEDIA. Disney has entered the race to buy Twitter:Bloomberg first reported on Monday that Disney is considering a bid, noting that the company both has deep enough pockets to potentially acquire the $20 billion social network, and the incentive to snap up a widely-used distribution channel.”

TRANSGENDER RIGHTS. Family sues Children’s Hospital San Diego for discriminatory treatment of transgender teen: “Katharine Prescott took her 14-year-old son, Kyler Prescott, to RCHSD in early April 2015 for suicidal ideation and for treatment of his serious self-inflicted injuries following an incident of transphobic harassment by his peers. The hospital was aware that Kyler was a transgender boy and Katharine made clear to hospital staff that her son must be treated as male for all purposes. But during his stay, hospital staff repeatedly addressed Kyler—who came out to his family as transgender at 13 and whose gender markers were legally changed to male—as a girl.”

Amy Schemer and Ramona Singer to have their own debate tonight: “Following the presidential debate, Schumer, who is a Housewives aficionado, will go head-to-head with Singer over a topic of utmost importance. The aforementioned topic is a doozy—Which is better: Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio?”

RIGHT WING DISCORD. Glenn Beck grills Ted Cruz about backing Trump: “You had this information the day you dropped out of the race. And said that Donald Trump is a ‘sociopathic liar.’ You had all this information. Have you spent an enormous amount of time with Donald Trump? Do you have new information that has made you say, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s now not a sociopathic liar. He is not the guy that I very eloquently spelled out, for over a year, and now there’s suddenly a reason to believe him’?”

audi-duel-hed-2016POLITICAL ADVERTISING. Audi drops debate-themed ad just in time for tonight’s melee: “It’s the perfect spot for what’s been a brutal political season—it’s violent and unrelenting and (literally) backwards. Yet it’s also the opposite of this election, in that the ultimate payoff is well worth the wait and something everyone can love. Its gender-opposite foes are equally matched, and they both want the same thing.”

REALITY TV. Digital season of Big Brother, Big Brother: Over the Top, reveals its contestants: “This season, fans will choose the winner of the show and they will also affect nominations, evictions, and more game-changing twists. The contestants will compete for $250,000 rather than the normal half million prize.”

“I, TOO, AM AMERICA.” President Obama offers moving address at the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC: “And so this national museum helps to tell a richer and fuller story of who we are. It helps us better understand the lives, yes of the president, but also the slave; the industrialist but also the porter; the keeper of the status quo but also the activist seeking to overthrow that status quo; the teacher or the cook alongside the statesmen. And by knowing this other story, we better understand ourselves and each other. It binds us together. It reaffirms that all of us are American. That African American history is not somehow separate from our larger American story; it’s not the underside of the American story. It is central to the American story. That our glory derives not just from our most obvious triumphs but how we’ve rested triumph from tragedy and how we’ve been able to remake ourselves again and again and again, in accordance with our highest ideals.”

GUN VIOLENCE. Gunman opens fire in Houston wearing a Nazi uniform: “Nathan Desai, believed the gunman according to multiple sources, including Click2Houston, shot at officers and ‘was neutralized by police,’ Interim Houston Police Chief Martha Montalvo said. A police spokesperson said 2600 rounds of live ammunition, along with two weapons, were found in or near his car. Police ‘sources said that the shooter was wearing what appeared to be an antique German uniform with Swastikas on it.’”

STUMPED. Earth continues to lose oxygen and scientists don’t know why: “Atmospheric oxygen levels have dropped by 0.7 percent over the past 800,000 years, and while scientists aren’t sure why, they’re rather excited about it.”
