Woman Sues Gay Friend For Child Support, 16 Years After He Donated Sperm To Her

A gay man who helped his friend conceive two children might be rethinking his kind deed, as she is now suing some him sixteen years later. That woman, now a medical doctor, is taking advantage of a loophole in Ontario law that allows for known sperm and egg donors to be held liable for child support based on biology alone, the Montreal Gazette reports.

There is a bill before the provincial legislature to amend the Children’s Law Reform Act, which could close the loophole, but perhaps too late for Michael Ranson, said his lawyer, Shirley Levitan.

Ranson met Dr. Amie Cullimore in 1991 and in 2000 she called on him to fulfill an old promise to donate his sperm so she could undergo IVF, court documents state.

He agreed to stay involved in their lives, since he had no plans of having his own children, but “never would have donated if had he known she was seeking any financial support from him,” his legal team claims.

The pair signed an agreement in 2002, granting full custody to the mother and saying she “would not look to (Ranson) for any financial support.”

If Ranson is successful in her suit Cullimore will be responsible for four years of retroactive child support, since 2012, as well as other expenses, including post-secondary education.

“He feels like now he’s being punished for having been a good spuncle [slang term for known sperm donor],” his legal representative said. “How does he maintain a good relationship with these kids now?

“This is not something he signed on for.”

Donald Trump once again tried to pretend that he’s a friend to LGBT people, entering a rally in Greeley, Colorado on Sunday night clutching a rainbow flag emblazoned with ‘LGBT for Trump’ which he unfurled and showed to the crowd.

Donald Trump has spent his campaign threatening to undo crucial protections for LGBTQ people in the United States, vowing to appoint judges to the Supreme Court to turn back the legalization of same-sex marriage and supporting state-sanctioned discrimination against transgender people.

He has courted extremists who foment hate both here and export it abroad. His running mate, Mike Pence, as a congressman in 2009, opposed language in federal legislation to monitor and combat human rights violations against LGBTQ people abroad, accusing Democrats of attempting to “promote a gay rights agenda around the globe.”

Trump has also sought support from leading exporters of anti-LGBTQ hate, including the Alliance Defending Freedom. Well known for the work it does within US borders, ADF is also spreading hate in countries around the world, from fighting equality in Russia to recruiting and training anti-equality activists in Nepal.

Trump also has an advisory board chock full of anti-LGBT religious bigots. He has signaled support for the First Amendment Defense Act, the vilest anti-LGBT”religious freedom” bill of our time, which would allow businesses and individuals to discriminate against gay people in the guise of ‘religious liberty’.

Also, Trump used the massacre of 49 people at Pulse nightclub in Orlando to promote his bigoted immigration policies and claim to be a better friend to women and the LGBT community than Hillary Clinton. Just days before the massacre Trump told a group of religious right leaders that he would defend “Christian values” including “marriage and family.” He joined Marco Rubio at an anti-LGBT event on the two month anniversary of the Pulse massacre.
