Take a stand against bullying this October 19th!

Spirit Day is a means of speaking out against bullying and standing with LGBTQ youth, who disproportionately experience bullying and harassment because of their identities. Pledging to “go purple” on Spirit Day is a way for everyone — forward-thinking companies, global leaders, respected celebrities, neighbors, parents, classmates, and friends — to visibly show solidarity with LGBTQ youth and to take part in the largest, most visible anti-bullying campaign in the world.

Here are 7 ways to “go purple” on #SpiritDay!

1): TAKE THE PLEDGE!

2): WEAR PURPLE! (shocker, I know)

3): GO PURPLE ONLINE, TOO!

Turn your social media profile pictures and cover photos purple!

4): SHARE YOUR SUPPORT!

Post a photo of yourself in your Spirit Day purple to Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter using hashtag #SpiritDay. You can write your own messages of support, share your personal story, or just copy and paste this message: “I’m against bullying! Take the #SpiritDay pledge if you are, too! glaad.org/spiritday.”

5): SPREAD THE WORD!

Encourage friends, family, coworkers and your school to take the pledge and go purple on October 19th! Share this video online!

Learn about LGBTQ issues, including statistics on bullying, by checking out resources on GLAAD’s Spirit Day website.

7): BRING THE CONVERSATION TO SCHOOL

Make sure your school takes bullying against LGBTQ students seriously by talking to your teachers, professors, administrators, and friends about what you learned and how we can all help!

We can help end bullying against LGBTQ students because of their identities, but we need your support. Together, there’s so much we can accomplish. There’s no wrong way to go purple—show your support and stand up for LGBTQ students and classmates!
