Gay teen fights back against school bully as teachers do nothing in viral video
View this post on InstagramThinking about making a YouTube channel ?…
A post shared by Jordan Steffy (@jordansteffy12) on
Jordan Steffy finally reached his limit.
After being called a “f*ggot” by the same student nearly every day since the seventh grade, the out high school junior was forced to take matters into his own hands last week after teachers refused to help him.
Two different clips show Steffy fighting back against his bully and racked up over 10 million views in just a matter of days.
The physical altercation happened inside a classroom at Laporte High School in La Porte, Indiana. Both videos show the bully calling Jordan a “f*ggot” and advancing on him despite being asked to step back.
“Back the f*ck up out of my face, now,” Jordan is heard saying. “Cause I’m not playing with you.”
“Why you in my face, f*ggot?” the bully replies, advancing on him.
“Don’t f*cking play with me,” Jordan says. “Don’t f*cking do it.”
“Don’t f*cking put your hands on me f*ggot,” the bully replies, taking another step closer.
And that’s when Jordan takes a swing at the kid, knocking him off balance. More blows are thrown before an adult’s voice can finally be heard saying, “Hey! Hey, Jordan! That’s enough!” and the video stops.

Steffy tells Insider that he’s been enduring homophobic bullying at school since he came out five years ago. Last week’s altercation was sparked over something the bully posted about him on social media.
Says Steffy:
“He made an anti-gay post with a picture of me on it saying how he hated gays and a bunch of throwing up emojis all over it. I walked up to him and said ‘Why did you post this?’ He said ‘It was just a post.’ And I said ‘Well, it’s not just a post. It’s a post about me, saying how you dislike who I am, and I don’t appreciate that.’ He went on to say ‘Okay, but what are you going to do about it?’ I said ‘I’m not going to deal with this, this is the last time I’m called anything.’ And then he said ‘What are you going to do about it, faggot?’ And that’s when I was like ‘No, I’m not doing this.’”
Steffy says he’s reported the bullying to school officials many times in the past, but more often than not, he’s the one who ends up getting in trouble.
“It seemed like I was getting in more trouble for reporting it than I was if I didn’t say anything at all,” he says. “It was doing me more harm than it was good.”
After last week’s fight, Steffy was sent to the principal’s office and suspended. He tells Insider he’s glad he stood up for himself, even if it means he has to miss a school dance he was looking forward to.
“If I could take it back, personally, I would,” he says. “But I’m glad I stood up for myself. If you were in my shoes, you’d probably get sick of it and you’d want to stand up for yourself.”
But while teachers and school administrators may not have Jordan’s back, the rest of the internet does. Since the videos went viral, he has received an outpouring of support.
Sending love your way. Standing up for ourselves is the hardest thing, sorry you had to endure this.

I stand with you. Every single person sitting there in complacency in that classroom should be ASHAMED of themselves

When my junior high bully pushed me against the wall early in my freshman year of high school, I saw red and pushed back – not nearly as effectively as you! – and he never bothered me again. I hope the word gets out to give you your space – I wish I had your guts 40 years ago!

Maryland Company Claims to Have Cure for HIV/AIDS Through Gene Therapy, Expects Clinical Trial in January: WATCH
American Gene Technologies in Rockville, Maryland says it has submitted an application to the FDA for a gene therapy it claims eliminates HIV.
CBS Baltimore reports: “The company said the therapy, AGT103-T, is a genetically-modified product made from a person’s own cells that focuses on repairing damage to the immune system caused by HIV. The company expects to start a phase one clinical trial in humans in January.”
Said Chief Science Officer C. David Pauza, PhD: “Our aim is to treat HIV disease with an innovative cell and gene therapy that reconstitutes immunity to HIV and will control virus growth in the absence of antiretroviral drugs. Development of this complex product (AGT103-T) required our deep knowledge of both HIV disease and lentivirus vector technology; it is the first cell and gene immunotherapy addressing the most critical feature of HIV infection, which is the chronic absence of virus-specific CD4 T cells.”
Said Jeff Galvin, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AGT: “We are excited to have reached this milestone of submitting our first IND application to the FDA for an HIV gene/cell therapy. This event brings us closer to reaching our mission to transform lives with genetic medicines. Based on our successful commercial-scale product manufacturing runs and features of the product observed in our laboratories, this therapy has a high potential to be effective. I feel confident that AGT103-T will make an important difference in the lives of HIV infected persons. HIV is the first drug candidate to result from AGT’s proprietary platform and model for creating gene and cell therapeutics more efficiently, predictably and reliably for clinical development.”

HRC and UConn Launch Survey to Examine Health Care Experiences of Black and Latinx Young Adults

Post submitted by HRC Foundation Research Manager Charlie H. Whittington, M.P.P.
HRC Foundation and researchers at the University of Connecticut are conducting a study to better understand the health care experiences of Black and Latinx young adults. This survey will ask respondents about their health care experiences, including their knowledge and experiences with PrEP. The survey will also ask participants questions about their background and identity, such as their education, relationships and age, and how these have shaped their experiences in the world. All responses are anonymous.

HRC Foundation is committed to addressing gaps in health care, including the lack of access to life-saving medication that contributes to HIV and health inequities in Black and Latinx communities. According to HRC Foundation’s analysis of CDC data, nearly one in four Latinx and Black LGBTQ high school youth say they have not received education about HIV prevention in their schools. This is unacceptable.
Our goal with this project is to identify ways to better connect community members with tools such as PrEP, and with inclusive, competent providers. The results of this survey will be shared with medical providers, policymakers and advocates in an effort to expand access to HIV prevention and care services. We want to help everyone get the care they want, need and deserve.
The survey questions were developed collaboratively with Black and Latinx community members and health care providers, as well as other survey experts. When undertaking surveys, HRC’s goal is to always make sure that the questions are relevant, inclusive and respectful, while being consistent with previous scientific studies to the extent possible.
