Nancy called Rep. John Conyers an “icon” and said that he deserves “due process” in the face of sexual harassment allegations against him by multiple women.

Said Pelosi: “He has done a great deal to protect women. Violence Against Women Act, which the left – right-wing – is now quoting me as praising him for his work on that, and he did great work on that … I believe he understands what’s at stake here, and he will do the right thing.”.

The Hill notes:

Conyers last week acknowledged that he settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015, but denied the sexual harassment accusations made against him by a former female aide.

The House Ethics Committee said last week that it has opened a probe into the allegations against Conyers, which include accusations of unwanted sexual advances.

Pelosi in the interview on Sunday called for an end to non-disclosure agreements that prevent sexual misconduct accusations from coming to light.

The most absurd part of Pelosi’s statement is “I believe he understands what is at stake here and he will do the right thing.” It’s not up to Conyers to decide what’s right. Also, he’s widely reputed to be losing his mental faculties. t.co/tVkgJSH64V

Democrats have lost the thread on sexual harassment.

You can debate Franken as being a marginal case, I guess.

But the Conyers claims represent a serious abuse of power—one that required a legal settlement—and Pelosi doesn’t see them as a firing offense. t.co/10Km2FQisA

Pelosi’s failure to call for Conyers’ resignation or replacement at Judiciary is in large part about internal Dem politics. Pelosi is concerned – like all Dem leaders – about angering Cong Black Caucus, a key faction among Dems

Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of D-Day Veteran, 96, Attacked With Claw Hammer

Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of D-Day Veteran, 96, Attacked With Claw Hammer
A man has been charged with aggravated burglary and the attempted murder of a D-Day veteran, who was seriously injured in a suspected claw hammer attack.

Jim Booth, 96, who has been described as an “exceptional person” and a “legend” by his family, was allegedly attacked at his home in Gipsy Lane in Taunton, Somerset, on Wednesday afternoon.

Joseph Isaacs, 39, of no fixed address, was charged in connection with the incident on Sunday and will appear at Taunton Deane Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Avon and Somerset Police said.

It is believed a claw hammer was used to attack Royal Navy veteran Mr Booth, who suffered serious injuries to his head and body, and was taken to hospital where his condition was described as “potentially life-threatening”.

In a statement released through Avon and Somerset Police on Saturday, his family thanked officers and medical staff.

“He is the head of the family, a dearly-loved father to his four children and adored by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom he’s simply known as The Legend,” they said.

“He is, and always has been, our own family hero.

Mr Booth’s family said: “Our father is not easily defeated and he grows a little stronger each day.

“We are all now focused on the long process of recovery, which will be helped by the love and support of all those around him.”

Mr Booth, who was awarded a Croix de Guerre military medal by the French for his gallantry during the Second World War, joined the Royal Navy as a seaman at the age of 18, serving throughout the war.

On D-Day, Mr Booth climbed into a fold-up canoe and shone a beacon out to sea to guide Allied craft safely to shore.

Mr Booth’s family said they were “immensely proud” of their father who was an “exceptional person”.

‘Relay Crime’ Where Thieves Steal Car Without Keys Released On CCTV Footage

‘Relay Crime’ Where Thieves Steal Car Without Keys Released On CCTV Footage
CCTV footage has been released of one of the first “relay crimes” to be caught on camera – where thieves can steal a car without needing keys.

Two men are seen on the footage carrying relay boxes to the male victim’s house at 9pm on September 24, West Midlands Police said.

The incredible footage shows the thieves using the devices to steal a Mercedes parked on a driveway in the Elmdon area of Solihull, West Midlands.

The boxes are designed to receive a signal from the car key inside the property – which can be picked up through walls, doors and windows – and then transfer the signal to a second box next to the car.

Taking just one minute, the vehicle’s systems are then tricked into thinking that the key is present, subsequently unlocking it.

One of the men can then be seen driving off in the car, which has still not been recovered.

Mark Silvester, from the crime reduction team, said: “To protect against this type of theft, owners can use an additional tested and Thatcham-approved steering lock to cover the entire steering wheel.

“We also recommend Thatcham-approved tracking solutions fitted to the vehicle.

“It is always worth speaking to your main dealer, to ensure that your car has had all the latest software updates and talk through security concerns with them.”

Sergeant Tim Evans, of Solihull Police, said: “It’s important the public are reassured that we are taking proactive steps to tackle this type of crime in Solihull.

“We hope that knowledge of this type of crime will enable members of the public to take simple steps to secure their vehicle and assist us.”
