Pioneering Circuit DJ Wendy Hunt Dead at 64

Wendy Hunt, a pioneering DJ in a mostly-male business for more than four decades and a regular on the gay nightlife circuit, died on Sunday night at the age of 64. Hunt took her own life, according to her sister Kavita, who posted notice of her death on Facebook.

Wrote Kavita:

I am writing to share stunning and heartbreaking news with you about Wendy.

After decades of struggle and suffering – some she shared with Facebook friends, though most she endured privately – Wendy died last night. She took her own life. For all of us, this is a tremendous loss. I cannot express all I’m feeling right now. Beyond words. You may feel similarly.

In the days ahead, we will post an obituary notice in the local newspaper.

For now, there are tears, and questions, and love.

As Wendy was of few means at this stage in her life, I will be setting up a donations page to assist in her cremation and memorial arrangements.

May Wendy’s bright and beautiful spark shine in our lives. Please hold Wendy in your hearts with love.

From Hunt’s bio at Pride Fort Lauderdale:

Wendy Hunt was born in California while spending her formative years in Massachusetts. It was during nursing school in the early 1970’s that Wendy became interested in becoming a DJ. “You have to have a passion for the music,” states Hunt. That life-long passion became public right there at the 1270 in Boston, where Wendy was given her first DJ gig. “I was bit by the bug while dancing to the jukebox at the 1270 (the twelve, to the frequenters)”, said Hunt. “Little did I know that moment would pave the road to a lifetime career.” As the years progressed, her influence on the music world grew. It was Hunt who was part of the production of the very first gay dance Sunday night at the popular club formerly known as a variety of names culminating in “Avalon” in Boston. As the Circuit grew, Wendy continued delighting the patrons of numerous major Circuit events, including Winter Party and White Party in Miami, White Party Palm Springs, Purple Party Dallas, Ascension Party Fire Island Pines and Valley of the Dolls in Dallas to name only a few.

Fellow Circuit mainstay DJ Susan Morabito paid tribute to Hunt’s influence, writing: “Mrs. Wendy Hunt, one of the first of three groundbreaking female DJs who made a mark in the 70s and opened up the doors to the rest of us. Her contribution and dedication to her art will never go unnoticed. A lovely lady and beautiful soul, may she rest in peace.”

Television’s best show about insufferable gay men and the irredeemable women who love them, Difficult People, returns for a third season Tuesday on Hulu. Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner return along with their fantastic co-stars Gabourey Sidibe, Andrea Martin and the incomparable Cole Escola.

A whole new batch of designers will need to “make it work” on the next season of Project Runway, back Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern on Lifetime. The new season kicks off with a casting special hosted by Tim Gunn.

Are we the only ones hooked on ABC’s teen pop star competition Boy Band? Oh, we are? It’s just us? Really? Come on. Admit it. You’re watching, too. See the remaining aspiring heartthrobs mug for the camera and try to “out-sensitive” each other with a new ep Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern.

One of TV’s most captivating performances comes to a close when Tatiana Maslany hangs up her several hats with the series finale of Orphan Black Saturday at 10 p.m. Eastern on BBC America. The show may have won praise for Maslany’s stupendous performance of several characters, but its LGBTQ characters also earned the series three GLAAD Media Award nominations.

At this point, every episode of Game of Thrones is a must-see. This week’s, Sunday at 9 p.m. Eastern on HBO, is no exception. How will Daenerys deal with her enemies? Will Arya cross any other name off her list? Will Dickon Tarly give Jaime Lannister mouth-to-mouth?! You gotta tune in to see.

John Oliver Rips ‘Vitamin D Deficient Minion’ and ‘Revolting Human’ Stephen Miller: WATCH

John Oliver went after White House advisor Stephen Miller on Sunday night for his defense of Trump’s immigration bill which would favor immigrants who speak English, among other things.

Miller had an exchange with CNN’s Jim Acosta last week in which he argued that the inscription on the Statue of Liberty referencing “your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” was irrelevant because it was added later.

Said Oliver:

“Just because it wasn’t part of the original does not mean it is worthless. Some of the best things ever made were changed part way through. Did you notice for instance, that there was a time when The Fast and the Furious movies didn’t have The Rock in them? It’s true. And they sucked. That’s why they added the f**king Rock!”

Oliver then lamented the fact that Miller is being considered for the job of White House Communications Director, noting that “he’s 31 human years old. He’s the same age as the Olson twin! Miller is so young that there are videos of him on the internet showing what he was like in high school…”

Oliver then showed a video of Miller campaigning for student government on the platform of not having to pick up trash in the school’s hallways “because there are plenty of janitors to do it for us!”

“He is truly one of the most revolting humans/minions I have ever seen.”
