ACLU. We decided not to sue over the “religious freedom” executive order: “Today’s executive order signing was an elaborate photo-op with no discernible policy outcome. After careful review of the order’s text we have determined that the order does not meaningfully alter the ability of religious institutions or individuals to intervene in the political process. The order portends but does not yet do harm to the provision of reproductive health services. President Trump’s prior assertion that he wished to ‘totally destroy’ the Johnson Amendment with this order has proven to be a textbook case of ‘fake news.’”

In a statement, a Seattle police spokesperson said:
“[The two people] were crossing Rainier Avenue South and South Genesee Street when they passed in front of a black 2004 Volvo, which was stopped at the intersection. The traffic light changed as the victims walked across the street and the driver of the Volvo–described as a tall white male with reddish hair–began shouting comments about the victims’ weight and sexual orientation.”
According to Seattle.gov, the man left for a short time but when he returned he started to trail his victims. At this point, a passenger in the care threw a bottle which hit the 23-year-old on the arm.

By signing HB 1111, Governor Haslam opened the floodgates for discrimination against LGBTQ Tennesseans
By signing HB 1111, Governor Haslam opened the floodgates for discrimination against LGBTQ Tennesseans
NASHVILLE – Zeke Stokes, Vice President of Programs for GLAAD, released the following statement after Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam signed HB 1111/SB 1085, a law that will now require all words in the Tennessee state code to be defined as their so-called “natural meaning” – ushering in an era that could delegitimize LGBTQ couples and trans people in the state of Tennessee.
“By the stroke of a pen, Governor Haslam has now placed the future of the state’s economy and the well-being of the LGBTQ community in jeopardy. HB 1111 has the potential to undermine marriages between LGBTQ couples, nullify a transgender person’s true identity under law, and put LGBTQ families at risk. This sets a dangerous precedent for how the LGBTQ community is treated in Tennessee moving forward.”
