Today in New York City, GLAAD joined thousands who rallied to support equality and acceptance and resist President Trump’s discriminatory actions against immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and more.

The LGBTQ solidarity rally was organized by New York City Council Member Corey Johnson along with more than 80 co-sponsoring organizations, local officials and advocacy groups. News of the rally spread across social media through the event’s Facebook page earlier this week when a reported “License to Discriminate” draft executive order was leaked to the media. The rally began at 2 PM ET on Saturday in front of the historic Stonewall Inn and – despite bone-chilling temperature – thousands of activists stood, cheered, and chanted for nearly three hours, brandishing signs of resistance and solidarity.

Prominent speakers included Borough President Gale Brewer, Council Member Corey Johnson, Executive Director of NYC’s LGBT Center Glennda Testone, Actress Cynthia Nixon, Actress and trans Advocate Hari Nef, and GLAAD’s very own Alexandra Bolles.

GLAAD staff and volunteers joined the thousands of diverse advocates onsite and distributed signs exhibiting the ampersand symbol, “&”, representing togetherness and awareness of intersectionality.
