‘Gilmore Girls’ Returns and More TV This Week

Check out our weekly guide to TV this week, and make sure you’re catching the big premieres, crucial episodes and the stuff you won’t admit you watch when no one’s looking.
Awful Brooklyn millennials are at the center of yet another series, this time a twisted satire of procedurals with Search Party, starring Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat as she searches for a missing friend. The dark, whip-smart writing is also the perfect fit for the brilliant out comedian John Early. The series premieres tonight at 11 p.m. Eastern on TBS and airs nightly this week.
The time has come to crown another winner on Dancing With the Stars Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern on ABC. The mirror-ball trophy will end up in the hands of gymnast Laurie Hernandez, actress Jana Kramer, former football player Calvin Johnson Jr. or IndyCar speedster James Hinchcliffe.
Comedian Billy Eichner’s Billy On the Street is back to terrorize the streets of New York, this time with Seth Rogen in tow Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. on TruTV.
Get ready to have a good cry and a ton of coffee when Gilmore Girls returns Friday on Netflix. If you lead, I will follow you straight to Stars Hollow for four feature-length episodes chronicling a year in the life of Rory, Lorelai and the whole Gilmore gang.
Speaking of millennials, children of the ‘90s should make a return to Nickelodeon Saturday at 8 p.m. Eastern when beloved game show Legends of the Hidden Temple becomes a (probably terrible, but lovingly crafted) live-action film. Sure it’s got the steps of knowledge, temple guards and even Olmec, but if the kids don’t struggle with the stunningly simple three-piece puzzle in the shrine of the silver monkey, it won’t really be right.

Oops :/ Trump Cabinet Hopeful Forgets Coversheet, Exposes Homeland Security Plan
Here’s our SuperZoom of Chris Kobach’s plans… pic.twitter.com/bKerg2Om8b
— Rachel Maddow MSNBC (@maddow) November 21, 2016
Thank god Cris Kobach didn’t email these potential Homeland Security plans to anyone — can you imagine the uproar?
Instead, he just blithely smiled on as professional camera equipment snapped his sensitive document, sitting at the top of his folder sans cover sheet.
Kobach, who is currently the Secretary of State in Kansas (we can’t imagine Kansas receives all that many threats to its security), joined the revolving door theatrics of visitors to President-elect Donald Trump, as he assembles his team of power players.
Kobach is in the running for Secretary of Homeland Security, but if he’s trying to show he’s up for the job, he’s got a ways to go.
“Kobach strategic plan for [the] first 365 days,” reads the top of the document, just underneath the header “Department of Homeland Security.”
At the top of the list is an item called “Bar the Entry of Potential Terrorists.” The plan, according to this doc, is to reinstate the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System, which went into effect after 9/11 and required men over the age of 16 from 25 different countries, 24 of which are majority Muslim, to register with the government upon entry to the country.
This may even sound like “better safe than sorry” common sense, but when the plan was effectively called off in 2011 by President Obama, it had helped convict exactly zero terrorists.
The document also calls to “reduce the intake of Syrian refugees to zero,” and add “extreme vetting questions” about Sharia Law, jihad, equality of men and women, and the United States Constitution for “high-risk aliens.”
The next part of the paper addresses “criminal aliens,” the proposed wall on the Mexican border, and voting laws, though much of the text is covered by Kobach’s arm and hand.
Hey, maybe this will take the conversation off Trump’s bashing of Broadway’s Hamilton. Well played, gents.
Out Massachusetts Mayor Alex Morse Targeted with Anti-Gay Threats: ‘You Are Going Down’
Out Holyoke, Massachusetts Mayor Alex Morse has been targeted in two incidents of ugly anti-gay abuse since the election, and shared a threatening note he received on Friday.
Said the note:
“Alex, You are one of the most selfish people that I know due to your “gay” lifestyle. You are going down.”
Morse, who was elected mayor in 2011 at age 22 after running as an openly gay candidate, posted the note to Facebook, and wrote:
“Anonymous hate mail isn’t uncommon and doesn’t typically bother me, but given we have a President-elect who just announced the appointment of an Attorney General who will do nothing to protect LGBTQ Americans and people of color, it’s important to bring to light the progress we need to protect and the challenges still ahead. #TrumpsAmerica“
In the second incident, one of Morse’s campaign signs was defaced and posted high in a tree near a public field, The Republican reports:
The added words on a surface attached to the Alex Morse for Mayor campaign sign were “sucks” and what appeared to be an attempt to spell “literally,” though it’s misspelled as “litteally” and “www.gay.com.”
After an acquaintance told him of the sign, Morse drove over to the spot and took photos of it himself, he said.
He was unsure if the altered sign was related to the anonymous letter, but he said that as with the letter, he would forward information about the sign to Police Chief James M. Neiswanger, so that police have a record of such actions.
A constituent posted a photo of the sign to Morse’s Facebook page:
