PHOTOS: The Best Memes From Last Night’s Depressing Presidential Debate

Well, the reviews are in and it seems everyone agrees that last night’s presidential debate was depressing AF.

Basically, for 93 minutes straight Donald Trump spewed complete nonsense at the American people, downplaying the whole “grab ’em by the pussy” scandal, inviting Bill Clinton’s alleged former mistresses to sit in the audience, accusing Hillary Clinton of being a fraud, bullying women, and laughing in the face of a 12-year-old rape victim, then calling her the devil, then saying her heart is “filled with hate,” before finally threatening to use to the power of the Oval Office to jail her if he is elected president.
All the while, Madam President, er, Secretary Clinton sat quietly with daggers in her eyes and let Mr. Trump continue digging his own grave while her poll numbers skyrocketed. (She’s now leading him by double digits.)

It was a deeply depressing, deeply upsetting, deeply unnerving event on many levels and it left us wishing we could just fast forward to November 9 when this whole shit show is finally over with. But at least some creative meme makers were able to find humor in it all. Thank god.
Scroll down for some of our favorite memes from last night’s presidential debacle…
Donald Trump Is Only Interested In Grabbing Women, Insists He’s Never Had A Gay Thought In His Life

Donald Trump has never had a gay thought in his life. Never ever ever! Not once. Not a single time. Believe him.
In newly unearthed audio from a past interview with class act Howard Stern, the flailing GOP presidential candidate/self-proclaimed pussy grabber/debate loser talks at length about his total, 100 percent lack of interest in having gay sex.

The comments, obtained by CNN, were made during a 2010 interview and came shortly after Trump praises golf star Tiger Woods for not being gay and for having many, many mistresses.
During the discussion, Trump voluntarily brings up a man Stern had interviewed who said he wasn’t gay even though he had experimented with “one or two” other men.
“You said, ‘Anybody who has had one or two events with a man is gay’,” Trump says.
“Absolutely. Absolutely, you know it and I know it,” Stern responds. “How many events have you had with a man?”
“Zero!” Trump quickly denies. “Not even a thought.”
“You’re a real man,” Stern congratulates.

“In other words,” Trump insists, “with all that I’ve had, I’ve never had a thought. There’s never been a big thought process, you know… Never even, like, a thought. In other words, let’s put it this way, during the event there’s never a thought of Jimmy or Ronald or any of that, no. No thoughts.”

Keith Olbermann to ‘Führer Trump’: ‘You Killed a Part of Our Democracy’ – WATCH
Keith Olbermann explored the dangerous consequences of Donald Trump’s vow to jail Hillary Clinton if elected president.
“Make no mistake what you heard,” Olbermann said, Trump’s threats against Clinton during the second presidential debate make it clear that what Trump is really seeking in this election is to become dictator of the United States America.
“The kind of presidency you want already exists. It is called a Putin-style dictatorship,” Olbermann remarked. “And the kind of America you want to lead, Trump, is not the America we live in now. This other America already exists. It is called Russia.”
He added,
“You killed a part of our democracy. When you threatened to jail one of your political opponents, you have threatened to jail all of your political opponents. It is by itself the outskirts of a Russian pseudo-democracy in which the very act of opposition to the ruler becomes a crime, or worse yet, it becomes a reason to fabricate evidence of an extant crime against the opponent. It is dictatorship.”
“And the power you seek might still carry the title president, but with the threat of the legal power of the United States of American being brought down on your opponents you might as well be Chancellor Trump, or Chairman trump, or Protector Trump, or Generalissimo Trump, or Führer Trump.”

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Actress Sara Ramirez Comes Out as Bisexual
Actress Sara Ramirez, best known for her role as Dr. Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy, came out as bisexual in a speech at the True Colors Fund 40 to None Summit. The 40 to None Summit is a two-day event addressing LGBT youth homelessness across the country which brings together advocates, service providers, funders, government officials, and young people.
#40ToNoneSummit #SpeakingMyTruth! Will post full video of speech soon! #ThankYou @TrueColorsFund #WomanOfColor #Bisexual #Queer #Immigrant pic.twitter.com/1q8JmKih9I
— Sara Ramirez (@SaraRamirez) October 8, 2016
Said Ramirez in the speech:
“So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections – whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status. And, because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican & Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to.”
Watch Ramirez “speak her truth” in the video from the 40 to None Summit:

Warren Beatty Speaks About Transgender Son for First Time: ‘He’s My Hero’
Actor Warren Beatty has spoken out about his transgender son Stephen Ira for the first time in a new profile in Vanity Fair.
— Stephen Ira (@supermattachine) July 21, 2016
Stephen Ira came out as transgender in 2009 and gay in 2011. Beatty and Stephen’s mother, actress Annette Bening, were criticized at the time for being silent on the issue publicly.
Beatty praises Stephen in the new VF profile:
“He’s a revolutionary, a genius, and my hero, as are all my children,” Beatty says when asked about Stephen.
With his children growing up and two of them now out of the house, “there’s something about the empty nest that makes you say, ‘Well, maybe I should go out and make a movie.’ It’s like Cocteau said [quoting the French poet Paul Valery], ‘A poem is never finished, it’s only abandoned.’ And that’s the way it is with movies—like children. You continue to work on them, and work on them, but then you have to let them go.”
Stephen is co-editor of Vetch: A Magazine of Trans Poetry & Poetics, and an activist.

Members of Congress Celebrate Perfect Score on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard

#AM_Equality Tip Sheet: October 10, 2016

HILLARY CHANNELS FLOTUS: “WHEN THEY GO LOW…”: After a bizarre — and extraordinarily lewd — weekend on the campaign trail was triggered by Access Hollywood video of Donald Trump regaling Billy Bush about his sexually predatory behavior, Hillary Clinton on Sunday night gave a master class in restraint. While headlines focused on Trump’s shocking, and at times creepy, behavior at the debate, Hillary Clinton repeatedly attempted to return the discussion to policy issues, including health care, foreign policy and the Supreme Court. Among the contrasts she drew: her vow to appoint Supreme Court justices who will uphold marriage equality and “protect the constitutional principles of liberty and equality for all.” Meanwhile, Donald Trump pledged to appoint justices in the mold of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who used his seat over the course of several decades to support laws designed to discriminate against LGBTQ people. For more on Trump’s potential Supreme Court nominees, read HRC President Chad Griffin’s (@ChadHGriffin) piece for NBC News at the beginning of the Supreme Court’s term.
DEBATE PREP: NBC’s Andrea Mitchell (@MitchellReports) reminded audiences of vice presidential nominee Mike Pence’s career-long goal of rolling-back LGBTQ equality, including signing a “license to discriminate” bill that could have allowed businesses to deny service to LGBTQ people — and subsequently defending the bill over an outcry from the business community and a majority of Hoosier voters. She also emphasized the power of the LGBTQ vote and HRC’s unprecedented #turnOUT effort to elect pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot. There are nearly 10 million LGBTQ voters in this country, and in many key states the LGBTQ adult population exceeds margin of victory in the 2012 presidential election.

MILBANK MUST-READ: “A WATERSHED MOMENT” FOR LGBTQ EQUALITY: In his Sunday column, Dana Milbank (@Milbank) of the The Washington Post writes on the potential “watershed moment” for LGBTQ equality if North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory is defeated this fall. Milbank notes it “would be the first case of a prominent official being voted out of office because his anti-gay actions backfired.” Indeed, McCrory has watched his approval ratings and polling numbers plummet amid the fallout from his hateful HB2 law. HRC President Chad Griffin agreed, noting the defeat of McCrory and his vile brand of hate “holds the possibility of being a turning point in the political history of our fight for equality.”
NYT MAG: “WHAT HAPPENED TO NORTH CAROLINA?” In The New York Times, Jonathan Katz (@KatzOnEarth) comprehensively tracks the terrible damage McCrory and his discriminatory HB2 have inflicted on North Carolina, a state that “has long traded on a reputation of relative political moderation, or at least balance.” Katz details hits the state taken because of the anti-LGBTQ law, and reports that the cost of the backlash is “politically obvious,” with polls consistently finding that a majority of North Carolinians believe HB2 has hurt the state’s economy and reputation. The approval rate in the state for the law continues to sink – down to 36 percent in a recent poll. Read more here.
MEANWHILE The Charlotte Observer has filed a lawsuit against McCrory seeking emails related to HB2 that the newspaper first requested in April under the state’s public records law. HRC filed a similar open records request in April, and has yet to receive a response. More from The Charlotte Observer.
HRC RELEASES CONGRESSIONAL SCORECARD FOR 114TH CONGRESS: HRC’s Congressional Scorecard measures support for LGBTQ equality in the 114th Congress. The 114th Congress saw a record number of Republicans vote at different times to affirm President Obama’s executive order prohibiting discrimination by federal contractors on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. However, the scorecard showed there is still work to be done — check out the “Hall of Shame” here.

PATTY JUDGE FOR U.S. SENATE: HRC endorsed of Patty Judge for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Chuck Grassley. While Judge will fight for Iowa values of fairness and equality, Grassley has abused his leadership position in the Senate to block any progress on equality. Grassley has demonstrated again and again that he would leave LGBTQ people around the country at risk for being fired or denied a job because of who they are or whom they love. More from HRC.
NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY COINCIDES WITH JEWISH AND MUSLIM HOLY DAYS: Tomorrow, LGBTQ Jews and Muslims will be celebrating National Coming Out Day as well as Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement and holiest day in the Jewish calendar, and Ashura, commemorating the day Musa (Moses) was saved by God. For LGBTQ adherents of Judaism and Islam, and their allies, this is a particularly important time that makes coming out even more meaningful. Read more at HRC.
NIH DESIGNATES SEXUAL AND GENDER MINORITIES AS HEALTH DISPARITY POPULATION: The National Institutes of Health has formally designated sexual and gender minorities as a “health disparity population” for purposes of NIH research. The term “sexual and gender minorities” includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. The announcement, writes HRC Senior Legislative Counsel Robin Maril, empowers NIH to undertake additional research on issues specifically affecting the LGBTQ community and elevates the health disparities faced by our community within the NIH research agenda.
